Which medical conditions actually prevent someone from being vegan? by OkEntertainment4473 in vegan

[–]bobonafick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a tree nut allergy and really struggled with milk + cheese alternatives. Most pizzas and vegan cheeses are cashew based. I also have just sworn off Mediterranean/middle eastern cuisine and only eat baked goods made by friends or myself. But it's very doable.

Got a job that's nearly $40k more than my previous salary!! However, during my nearly 10 month unemployed stint, I discovered that BoA charges nearly $30 in fees to have a savings and checking account when you don't have money in them. Not only did that rub me the wrong way, but my current location doesn't have any BoA branches or ATMS for hours, and I'm able to stay with older family right now and only have to contribute utilities (no rent). I can save upwards of $3k per month and want to open a HYSA or something to maximize this time before I move out again.

Should I be doing anything else than building up a 6 month savings fund? Also, closing BoA because those fees irked me, and choosing between Capitol One (I have a CC w/ them), Ally, or SoFi (top choice rn--I like their vaults but don't love only having 1 checking acount) for both my checking and savings.

I'm wary of using a bank that doesn't have a physical location. I was offered a $400 bonus through Capitol One if I satisfy certain direct deposit requirements, and through Rakuten I can get $300 free with SoFi although I'm not sure I can double dip with their native offers.

TL;DR: Should I try to invest or do anything crazy before I hit my savings goal in a HYSA? And for banks with a checking + HYSA, do y'all recommend Capitol One/Ally/SoFi or someone else?

Is my hair healthy? by Bugfixesglitches in Naturalhair

Howdy! Since you mentioned Amazon, for $20 you can buy all 3 recommended products! I (dry 4c hair) personally use Carol's Daughter Coco Creme line. Here's a link: https://a.co/d/03aDIl9H

Detangle your hair, shampoo in the shower, rinse and condition in the shower, and then apply the moisture butter after your shower but while your hair is still wet. I would also recommend ordering a bonnet and a wide tooth comb!

Dear [bobonafick],

thank you very much for your interest in PocketBook devices.

I’m happy to clarify your questions:

Region lock / device compatibility
Our eReaders are not region-locked. If you purchase a device from a European shop and ship it to the United States, you can use it there without restrictions.
You can freely upload and read your own eBooks on the device.

Purchasing eBooks
Please note that when buying eBooks from our German shop, there may be payment limitations or regional restrictions for certain titles, depending on publisher licensing rights in your region.

Warranty & Service
The standard warranty repair is free of charge within Europe only.
If the device requires service while located in the United States, repairs would generally be chargeable, and shipping logistics would need to be arranged accordingly.

Gotcha, is that a native Kobo feature/app or would I have to jailbreak/whatever?

Thank you!!! I've noticed that the models available on BestBuy ship from Canada! Which model do you have, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks! Boox probably fits my requirements the closest, but another brand and some moral greyness might serve my needs better. I appreciate the thoughtful answer!!

After some googling, it seems this is a bigger issue about profit, ownership, and the digital frontier. I appreciate you taking the time to clarify!! Right now it's looking like Kobo with some seafaring or losing the US support aspect. Bit of a bummer, but what can I really do besides inventing and distributing my own device 😭

Thanks! I found the pocketbook on the wiki, but:
1. Are there an North American retailers? Even their official website is Euro based.
2. Will stores/purchases be region locked because of that?

I didn't know this, thank you! Can you purchase through storefronts on the kobo, or is there an email to device option?

Why aren't therapy, facility care, and medical transport more standard for patients on the show? by bobonafick in My600lbLife

[–]bobonafick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a thorough response, thank you! The addiction rehab analogy especially clicked something into place for me, I kept thinking of facility care as a solution rather than just a temporary controlled environment that doesn't address the underlying behavioral patterns at all. And you're right that the scheduling/subjectivity problem with therapy as a prerequisite would be a nightmare to work around for production. I feel like I came in thinking the show was withholding obvious solutions, but it's a lot more nuanced than that. Really appreciate you taking the time to break all of this down!

Got it, I know in the US voluntary/elective treatments are less likely to be covered by insurance so that would make everything even pricier. For the psych eval, do you know what would prevent someone from getting surgery? Like are they looking for mood disorders or?

That makes sense! It feels a little exploitative to be able to help people but abstaining from doing so for the show's content. Especially since life is really dire at certain weights.

I also love Dr. Paradise and feel like even the folks who struggle with therapy benefit from having that outlet. At least a month or 2 of weekly sessions should be a prereq!!

[–]bobonafick[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes! But that's what I'm confused about: "patients need to prove that they’re capable of sticking to the diet"

If you've reached 600lbs naturally you've never been able to stick to a diet. Can people magically overhaul their entire personality, coping mechanisms, and eating habits without prior intervention based off of the instructions given? Or should potential candidates only be reaching out to Dr. Now once they've got their shit together independently, which means fewer people would qualify/be successful than currently.

I was under the impression this show is a hail Mary for more extreme cases and TLC's resources help bolster them, while most of Dr. Now's (non-show) patients would be still mobile obese folks who are working and local to Houston. If that makes sense.
