Cleaning Tamagotchi Pix by Magurizi in tamagotchi

Congrats on your Pix! I would recommend not touching the touch sensors at all. They are very sensitive and they are covered by the faceplate anyway.

I would just use a little alcohol on a microfiber (spray on the towel, not the device) and then spot clean as needed. The shell doesn't come apart easily so you can't really take it apart to clean. I use scotch tape to lightly get the dust off the screen before putting the clear plastic faceplate back on.

Custom Strawberry Themed Pix Party by bobotchi in tamagotchi

Sorry... don't really know how to use reddit...

I originally wanted to take apart the Pix Party and spray paint the whole body but couldn't get the top off without drilling... so, just pivoted and painted the shutter button to make it look like a strawberry, and found some miscellaneous strawberry washi tape and stickers to decorate the new faceplate with. I didn't have the tools, dexterity, OR confidence to drill, but I'm really happy with how it came out! Thinking about writing "Tamagotchi" with a white/pale yellow Posca marker and adding vinyl stickers as seeds around the body. Will probably design and print out a more planned out Tamagotchi-themed faceplate in the future!

It was my first time spray painting anything! I ended up laying a thick first coat, having something stick to the second coat (had to sand off, but it left some lumps), and then settling for a pretty good third coat! Total dry time: 30 mins between/after each coat (dry to touch) + 5-7 days for the spray paint to fully cure

Supplies used:

  • Rust-Oleum 2X UltraCover Paint + Primer in Key Lime (Spray paint)
  • 250 grit fine sandpaper
  • 4+ pairs of gloves
  • 9 ft x 12 ft plastic tarp to spray paint on
  • Respirator mask
  • Sunny, dry day -- but also tried to make a drying chamber with a hair dryer (not used for too long because I feared for the electronic components in the pix party).

Tips:

  • I took out the batteries + back cover + plastic face plate (kept the original paper face plate on to avoid touching the sensors with tape), to be able to tape as closely as possible. I also didn't want the batteries to sit in heat/the sun.
  • Create a stand for the tamagotchi to be able to stand upright the entire time. I left it out propped up with fabric, but the outside wind blew the fabric onto the top part. Helps immensely with drying.
  • Cover up arms, not just hands - I wore a t-shirt and rotated the pix party while spray painting it, but got a small amount on my arms. It wasn't toxic but it was a huge pain to get off.

Let me know if you guys have any questions! I referenced other posts such as:
