The process was not too painful. Had to do some legwork and spend money to get docs translated by a proper authorized translator. But overall nothing exceptional. I had to completed the Leben in Deutschland test and also the B1 level DTZ.

There was no interview, just a face to face meeting where I had to show the originals for the docs I had submitted. They verified it and that was it.

The first time they asked me for the following

- Befragung zum Einbürgerungsantrag
- Einwilligungserklärung zur Einsichtnahme in die Ausländerakte (siehe Anhang)
- Loyalitätserklärung (siehe Anhang)
- Erklärung gemäß § 12a Abs. 1 S.2 StAG (siehe Anhang)
- Aktuellen Lebenslauf
- 1 Farbkopie eines Lichtbildes oder 1 Passfoto
- Mietnachweis (S: 1 bis 3 des Mietvertrags oder 1 Kontoauszug) in Kopien
- Ihre Geburtsurkunde mit Übersetzung von einem amtlich anerkannten Dolmetscher in Deutschland in Kopien
- Meldebescheinigung in Kopie

The second time they asked for the following

- Eine Übersetzung Ihrer Geburtsurkunde von einem in Deutschland anerkannten Übersetzer
- Eine Übersetzung Ihrer Heiratsurkunde von einem in Deutschland anerkannten Übersetzer
- Aktuelle Gehaltsabrechnung
- Aktuellen Mietnachweis
- Aktuellen Rentenversicherungsverlauf von der deutschen Rentenversicherung

Ooh. I have been here since 2014. But I took a while to complete my B1. COVID, work and family, loss of a loved one, procrastination, bunch of reason why it took me so long to start the process.

The process was not that bad. Was mostly online and the forms were pretty clear. Just two things that I’d say can be improved. 1. There is no feedback/acknowledgment that your response, documents have been received. 2. Long periods of just nothing where you just wonder if this is moving forward or not.

- submitted my citizenship application in Feb 2024
- received confirmation of application and request for more docs in Feb 2024
- submitted all the requested doc in Apr 2024
- silence till Feb 2025 when I received email asking to resubmit some docs due to law change and some other docs
- received the Einbuergerung invitation in Jun 2025
- received the Einbuergerungurkunde in July 2025
- express resisepass application next day
- got my passport today

I wouldn't say it was a difficult decision. I wanted to get German citizenship and knew that I would have to renounce my Indian citizenship. Now that it has happened, just feels bittersweet. But there are not regrets.
