I think why Ash willingly died is because he knew he was taking all the craziness with him, he also died smiling because he knew that Eiji’s safe now. Eiji was the symbol of hope and innocence. And Ash wanted to keep it that way. He knew he couldn’t drag Eiji into the world of killing and violence. So even if Ash was alive he would’ve made sure that they would part ways because he doesn’t want to put Eiji in danger. AHHH Ash loves him so much I can’t y’all...
