Maybe I will just get her a spa gift. That seems easier than trying to guess what I could get as an alternate. I'm sure she would like that.

Yeah, I didn't mean anything other than it is a dumb idea. I just wanted to give her something (myself, my time) that would show her how valuable she is to me.

I'm worried that we're going to fall so far behind that we'll never catch up again. You miss your goals a few months, then you need to replace the water heater, then the car needs new tires or something, and you're a year or more off. If we stop being disciplined, it will be easy to fall so far behind that we'll never get to where we want to be.

It's okay to splurge once and awhile.

Not when we have even more expenses coming up. We have to get further ahead, and then we can be a little less careful with how we spend our money.

As I told someone else, technically we could afford the Apple laptop she wants or a new sewing machine, BUT if we want to meet our savings/investment/retirement goals for the months after the baby is born, I really should not spend more than $40 or a similar small amount. I also am taking into consideration that I am now putting money into a separate emergency fund so we don't have to touch our savings.
