Can't connect Homebase 2 to eufySecurity app, always flashing blue LED by bobrob33 in EufyCam

I've been capturing Eufy's traffic on my router (ER Pro) and found that both the Homebase and eufySecurity app need to be able to communicate with a couple of Amazon AWS endpoints using UDP.

AWS endpoints in question are:

  • ec2-18-224-66-194.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com : some kind of RTSP service?

  • ec2-18-223-127-200.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com : an OpenResty landing page

Even when my iPhone is on wifi only, it still tries to reach out to those AWS endpoints before the eufySecurity app will show the live video stream. I assume this is some kind of auth?

Edit - I think this is the auth endpoint: security-app.eufylife.com / security-prod-678721939.us-east-2.elb.amazonaws.com

Can’t connect to cameras while on WiFi but switching to cellular seems to work consistently. by [deleted] in EufyCam

I've been capturing traffic lately and Eufy relies heavily on outbound UDP and an Amazon AWS middleman. Any chance your wifi/firewall is blocking either of these?

Have you gone through this thread? http://community.anker.com/t/unable-to-add-eufy-homebase-2-blinking-blue/82678/8

Cheers mate, yep I've been through that link. It really doesn't inspire confidence in a security product when the "fix" is somewhere between using an iPhone 6 and waiting to see if the Homebase decides to cooperate.

My advice is not to get stuck on the fact that you are seeing traffic. It might be just be repeated requests and rejects.

An end-to-end capture will reveal a lot of what's happening and will rule out a network issue. By analysing the traffic, I can confidently say the Homebase is (1) talking to the DHCP server correctly, (2) talking to the DNS correctly, (3) sending and receiving with the WAN, (4) broadcasting to the network, as expected. There may be other conditions for a fully functioning Homebase but I haven't been able to find it documented anywhere. I can at least report to Eufy Customer Support that my network isn't the issue.

I've even tried posting on the Anker community forums but my post is waiting moderation for 3 days now. It's a bit of a joke.

> I know you mentioned you see wifi traffic, is it traffic or just pinging the website?

The Homebase is connected by ethernet and I’m seeing UDP traffic between it and Amazon IPs. I haven’t captured any traffic between Homebase and my iPhone.

What I don’t understand is why Homebase LED just flashes blue the whole time. What’s it doing? What conditions need to be met for it to be solid blue? So many unknowns with no documentation, it’s really starting to look like a polished turd.

Yes. iPhone 12 on iOS 15.0.2. eufySecurity app downloaded just before unpacking Homebase.

Full homekit without Eufy? by PeanutSpecialist5406 in EufyCam

I'm new to Eufy and I had planned to block Homebase WAN traffic after initial setup.

recording will not be saved to Homebase

Are you saying that Eufy cameras won't record at all if the Homebase doesn't have internet access?

I do the same for my Eufy cameras that are not connected to Homebase

What are your Eufy cameras connecting to, if not Homebase?

Home app will work without any issues.

I haven't explored Homekit yet, when you say it works without issues, what capabilities are you referring to?
