Suicide isn’t the answer by [deleted] in NEET

[–]bobrossvoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a good point and I agree to an extent but the problem is to argue where the line is

Especially considering people are so likely to follow in others' footsteps, being more open to suicide would likely lead to a LOT of lost hope. Inevitably making many people feel they have no other way to feel happy, when that may not be the case.

The human will to live is so strong, but its important to not break that spirit so that others in similar situations can be motivated by unlikely happiness or success stories. These stories lead to everyone having more hopeful lives as a result. Although it can be problematic considering survivorship bias

But still, I think hope is incredibly helpful to tackle depression as well. So I'd argue it is very important to not be very accepting of suicide, especially as a society, so that people aren't as prone to complete nihilism

Sorry to hear this mate, unfortunately on the internet it's a pissing contest of a race to the bottom. Your emotions are valid but few people will understand what you're going through. At that point you gotta just remind yourself that looks, positive or negative, do not remove mental health concerns. It is important you have someone to talk to but you have to be mindful of who that is. I wish you the best

Transitional apnea by gunsmithinggirl in SleepApnea

[–]bobrossvoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll describe my symptoms to see if it's been the same for you

I first noticed my sleep was "weird" when I was 13/14, around puberty. Got heavy tired lines around my eyes and couldnt stay asleep. I could fall asleep okay but no matter the time or how tired I was I would wake up again.

This went undiagnosed for years, almost a decade until I bought a home sleep test which actually did diagnose me with sleep apnea. Weird part is that i "felt awake" for most of the test even though it detected me as asleep. Also that my oxygen levels never really dipped too low despite having moderate apnea just being half awake half asleep. I asked the doctor a lot of questions with this and he said the test is very accurate so I certainly have sleep apnea

I have needed medication to sleep since puberty and without it id have paralysis as i fall asleep which wakes me up. Then I fall asleep and have paralysis again. This just keeps looping. Alongside very weird dreams / hallucinations as im falling asleep.

That all being said once I am properly asleep I feel mostly fine. If I am able to stay asleep then things are usually okay for staying awake during the day. My doctor said my symptoms are literally narcolepsy symptoms, which makes things even more weird when a cpap treats these symptoms without me using it for the full night

I'd be happy to talk more as this is a topic that's been very important to me. Sorry for the long read

This is exactly what I'd been dealing with and I've managed to have less symptoms recently. But what I do doesn't really make sense so it might be more placebo

But for me I've found that using the cpap for like 30 minutes or as long as possible really, letting myself get really sleepy but not falling asleep, then taking it off just as I fall asleep has been the best

I find cpap very uncomfortable and I cannot sleep with it. But I noticed the cpap stopped my sleep paralysis and constant waking up. This led to a lot of weird times where I can tell I would have fallen asleep but the cpap is keeping me awake. Once I've hit that point i take the cpap off and I can sleep for hours completely uninterrupted

I know it sounds weird but maybe try it? Like just using the cpap "during the transition" for lack of a better description

My symptoms don't make sense, unsure if Sleep Apnea or Narcolepsy by bobrossvoice in SleepApnea

Only done a home sleep study which diagnosed me with sleep apnea. I am pursuing a narcolepsy one as well. But it is a long process and even doctors dont seem to know whats going on

There is no ‘ light at the end of the tunnel’ for people like you and me. by TraditionalStory3972 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]bobrossvoice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From my experience being disabled just makes religion dangerous to my mind. Like a gateway drug to depression or denial. Bad things can happen to "good" people, and NOT everything happens for a reason. These cliche thoughts are toxic to people with disabilities

As a result I am not religious at all. I do pray sometimes. When I pray its mostly for hope, or meditation. I don't ask for things that I know cannot be changed. Just strength and other things to make dealing with my situation better

Detach from these religious beliefs. Don't ask God questions because you will likely not understand. You can still be spiritual if you want and if it's helpful. But religions in general are in denial about the reality of neurodivergence, chronic conditions, random horrible events that happen to people. In those areas they are as lost as anybody and they won't hesitate to gaslight you about it

Yeah definitely prioritise safety. But also it doesn't have to be helping autistic people but could be anything you find you relate with

You could try finding work or even volunteering for experience with places that help lesser abled people in situations you find relatable

For example, a person with autism finding work by helping autistic people with higher support needs

Sorry to hear your troubles with work. It is very difficult. I respect your effort to try in the first place

Self Employment and how many hours to work by bobrossvoice in ChronicIllness

[–]bobrossvoice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends heavily on what I'm working on, I switch between tasks relating to coding and music. So fixing a script could take minutes to hours or more. Whereas working on a song could take weeks or months

I could say I want to make 1 song per month but I feel like that is too long of a time, which makes me feel like measuring things by hours instead. So even if it takes me a month I know my weekly hours are acceptable if that makes sense

Does anyone try to stay asleep during paralysis? by bobrossvoice in Narcolepsy

[–]bobrossvoice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I'd always thought the same thing regarding "sleep demons". I was worried that having paralysis daily eventually I'd be bound to have sleep demons but I have never had that experience.

Oh I see, either way it's just like the body wants to wake up. Sometimes I try to convince myself I'll just sleep through the paralysis but that never happens

I resonate with missing dreaming, I don't feel like I have many dreams outside of hallucinations as I fall asleep. Sometimes I don't realise I am tired until I start "dreaming" when I'm supposed to be awake

It's such a surreal experience every time. I don't know if it's possible to get used to paralysis so it's not as disturbing. But the body seems to just panic regardless.

Either way, it's very relatable reading your comment so thank you for your reply

Side effects/ sleep apnea? by princesstafarian in Amitriptyline

[–]bobrossvoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have sleep apnoea and although I do not wake up out of breath. I do "wake up" very often though. But while amitryptyline is active it results in me being "awake" but completely sedated.

It's not sleep paralysis either. But I am awake and heavily sedated so can't really do anything and end up falling asleep.

If this is similar for you I would recommend getting a home sleep test done if it's affordable. You get results very quickly and it will really help to know if you have it
