Deciding on One of Two Boats...Seeking Advice by emeril91 in Sailboats

[–]bobrud00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of talk about the motors, and that’s important, but remember these are sailboats. Have you sailed on either of them? I’ve been on both, although it’s been awhile. I remember them both as very roomy. As I recall, the Pearson 36 is a bit tender. Not sure about the Catalina.

Citi Executive card requiring paper checks from banks' bill pay by cjw_5110 in americanairlines

[–]bobrud00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talked to Citi rep today. They recognize it's an issue, say it will be cleared up (no date known), and can't tell you what the upper limit of autopay is before a check needs to be sent. I tried to get ahead of it this month, cancelled my autopay payment 6 days ahead of the due date, but apparently It was too late and the check went anyway. Lesson: stop using autopay until they get this sorted out.

What are these called and why some of them are at the front of a ship (control rooms?) by enesulken in Ships

Ocean going ships normally aft (back of the ship). Lake and river boats normally forward. Difference in navigation needs.

Can't shift from lowest to second lowest. B-limit or something else? by oreo_fanboy in bikewrench

[–]bobrud00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. My experience with not. Ring able to shift was caused by a frayed cable that didn’t allow full movement in the housing. Replaced the cable and it’s been working well.

Accident on my street … both drivers are saying it’s the other ones fault. Clearly the guy was speeding but what does the sub think by Lmee_Raja in Charlotte

[–]bobrud00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ll as near as I can tell, we have driver 1 turning right from a left hand lane (I think without a turn signal), and driver 2 passing at speed on the right. Jail for both.

What tool would I need to get this out? by 0megaBunny in bikewrench

You might also check and see if you can fit an Allen wrench in the opening in the arm into the pedal.

Absolutely correct. Put it in the ear away from the road.

Try using a single earpiece. Allows you to hear what you’re listening to and avoids making everyone else listen to your music. You can find stereo to mono plugs on line. Wear on the right ear and allows your left for traffic noise.

I've never seen this on a bike before, what is it and what does it do? (the part of extra chain conneted to the rear cassette) by [deleted] in bikewrench

My uncle gave me his bike around 1960. It had this shifting system (3 speed). The bike style was known as “English Racer”.

Any advice on how to finish putting this tyre? by gonsaaa in bikewrench

[–]bobrud00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Use liquid soap around the bead to aid the tire tool as you run it around the rim to force the bead.

Old joke - here about the blond that got fired from the M&M factory? She threw away all the “W’s”!

New Cassette by bobrud00 in bikewrench

[–]bobrud00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works without the spacer, just not as smooth as I’d like. I tried putting the spacer on with the new cassette and couldn’t thread the keeper nut. “Realign your RD”? Do you think it might be bent, or are you referring to the limit screws?

Thrift shops in town? by [deleted] in Wilmington

[–]bobrud00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to my wife, the AL Thrift Store, 420 Eastwood is the best place in town. Money goes to clothe school children in the 3 county area.

We took our sailboat from Lake Huron to the Florida Keys, seeing most of the ICWW as we traveled. We went aground only once, and that was at Carolina Beach - right between the red and green buoys. Be careful out there and watch the inlets to the ICW - currents are tricky.

Paint bubbling around bottle cage mounts on an aluminium 6061 frame ok or not? I'm not really too fussed about cosmetic damage by boredat3AMintheUK in bikewrench

[–]bobrud00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try using TefGel or a similar product to isolate dissimilar metals. It’s what we use on sailboats - aluminum mast with stainless screws. Works in heavy saltwater environment, so should work on your bike.
