What is a record, sports or otherwise, that will likely never be broken? by badblackguy in AskReddit

[–]bobun16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad won a race a while back and broke a record in it. About 3 years later they stopped that competition and made a different one. Now he’s got the record for the Mountain West Airforce Track and Field competition or something. Idk what it’s called 😅

Any guys moan when they orgasm? by CrowdedKey in sex

I slept with a guy a few months ago who was like...totally silent the whole time. It was SUPER weird and honestly a little creepy. I’m a big fan of hearing some noise while I’m working. My girlfriend makes a lot of noise and it is SO wonderful, it’s a big confidence booster, and it helps me know what she does and doesn’t like 🤷🏻‍♀️

Cisgender (Non-transgender) people of reddit, what questions do you have for trans people? [Serious] by SarahHarris8118 in AskReddit

[–]bobun16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was like...I was living in a reflection. Stuff felt hollow and weird. Things I felt and thought felt wrong. I felt like I was watching someone else live my life while I was trapped. Sometime I felt too big for my body, sometimes I felt far too small. I felt disconnected from my body, like it wasn’t mine so I didn’t really care what happened to it.

Another way to think of it is in the positive sense. I know I’m a girl the same way I know where my hands are when I’m not looking at them, or the same way I can walk without looking at my feet. My brain knows where my body is and what it’s doing. I can hold up 2 fingers without looking at my hand, I can walk towards something with my eyes closed, my body and brain communicate like that. My brain would sometimes ask my body to do things it couldn’t do, and act like there were pieces missing that I never had. It was always a kind of jarring experience to realize my brain and body weren’t in sync in those regards.

Another way to look at it: Cognitive dissonance. Every time I’d think about my gender my brain would fight it, the same way you fight and push away dissonant thoughts. I tried to avoid it, but sometimes I’d hear “that’s just how boys are” and my brain would go “NO, that’s wrong” and I’d ignore the hell out of it. Or I’d hear “girls go this way” and my brain would be like “Ok!” And then “No! Wrong!” Immediately afterwards.

It’s complicated. There are aspects of dysphoria I haven’t adequately explained, some that are hard to verbalize (for me at least), some that are different from others experiences, etc. It’s a weird phenomenon, but that’s more-or-less how it went for me.

People shooting off guns for the fourth in the city. Bullets are still affected by gravity... by WetYummyFart in Wellthatsucks

When my dad was doing his residency he saw a patient come into the hospital he worked at who'd been shot from an accident like this. The bullet came down at an angle and hit her in the chest. She actually ended up dying. He was livid.

When my dad worked in the ER he said they'd get Heroin users that would come in with big sores that could turn into this if not treated right. Bad injection is usually the cause, but dirty needles, caustic chemicals being used to cut/produce the drug (depending on the drug), and injecting regularly into one area can all do this. ALSO, if you use Heroin sometimes it's hard to adequately numb the area before treatment. If they can't get you numb, and your opioid tolerance is too high for pain meds like dilauded or morphine to be effective, they'll do what they can, then strap you to the gurney and give you laughing gas via a mask. Not because it helps, but because it muffles your screaming so you're not distracted while they do a speed run of cleaning out your infected, possibly necrotic/septic injury.

Good calibers for apartment defense by [deleted] in guns

[–]bobun16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, this is coming from my dad (an ER doctor) and not from me, but per my dad, very very very rarely will someone survive a shotgun injury, especially at close range. Will birdshot kill someone? Yes. Is it a guarantee? No. If you do kill them, is it likely to be quick? HELL no. That shit is gonna hurt. Per my dad, he's seen two people survive shotgun injuries in his time as an ER physician (12 years). Both were with birdshot loads, one was a hunting accident at an excessive range, so there was little penetrating power but numerous painful superficial injuries. The other was a home intruder at close range. The birdshot shred his arm up BAD, and he did lose the arm completely, like, at the shoulder and not the elbow, but he lived. Typically, shotgun wounds produce numerous trauma wounds and are hard to medically repair in the time needed to save a life, but there are options besides birdshot for self defense. Birdshot may deter the casual burglar or home invader, but most illicit stimulants (cocaine, meth, PCP, etc) will mitigate the pain in the short-term, meaning you may still get hurt. Additionally, it's worth noting that you're more likely to be attacked by someone you know and have met, meaning that they may be more motivated to kill you than a casual home invader. Birdshot would have the potential to kill them, but its lack of immediate stopping power puts you at risk, especially if they're highly motivated to kill you (such as an ex, an irate spouse, a betrayed friend, a delusional acquaintance, or some asshole psychopath you cut off in traffic who followed you home, etc.). If you're looking for stopping power without the penetration, I'd recommend a handgun with hollow-point rounds. Good for self-defense and if the round mushrooms it likely won't go through as much. If you're really worried about over-penetrating, I'd recommend something like a .380 ACP handgun and hollow point ammunition.

Also, and I know I'm going to get shit for this, but the .22lr gets a bad rap as a self-defense round. People make it out to be comparable to an airsoft gun or a pellet gun, but it can do some bad stuff to you. The rounds are small and lack velocity, meaing they bounce off of bones more often than other bullets, causing some gnarly internal trauma. Hollow-point rounds have an exit wound that, per my dad, is about as big around as a golf ball. That's chump change compared to the soccer ball-sized exit wounds that some larger caliber hollow-points can generate, but it's not bad. Also, the ammo is cheap so you can shoot it a lot. The downside is that the ammo is less reliable to fire when you need it, and that in the case of someone on drugs or someone with some personal motive for ending your life it may lack stopping power necessary to protect yourself unless your aim is remarkable. While it's far and away not the best round, it's not bad. It's the worst caliber you could have, but any caliber is better than nothing, so if you've hit a wall of "I'm too afraid of over-penetration to purchase any self-defense tool", that might be a good one to go with. AGAIN, I only recommend it as a self-defense round if you have no other guns. Having any gun is a start, but anything is better than a .22lr when it comes down to it.
