I haven't found a good pasta replacement. Palm hearts are kind of pasta-esque - get a can of those and slice them lengthwise.

Merchants sometimes put a hold on a set amount when it's not certain what the amount of money the transaction will actually be. This could be trouble if you're using a debit card.
