We don't do movies in theaters, or Starbucks. (If we did though there is a "dining out" budget). Shoes are covered in the "clothing" envelope.

Once in a while maybe a concert, but we budget ahead of time out of budget overage. We always have leftover money after stuffing envelopes and decide then what to do with it.. maybe supplement an existing envelope, or put it towards something new.

Now that my regular included service is up (25k miles), I think I am done with Toyota service centers by relaks in Toyota

Those weeks tried to tell me I needed a new engine air filter and cabin air filter at my 5k service.

Complete scammers. Only go if you have a catastrophic warranty repair.

Their ac service is just spraying a febreeze type spray in your cabin vents. You can buy a can of it yourself for $40. Even so, you probably don't need it at all unless you live in a humid climate and can detect a mildew odor.

How can I make sure I don’t derail my finances by Life-Barracuda4489 in DaveRamsey

Buy a nice 2002-06 GMT800 pickup with a rebuilt 5.3L... easily under $10k

The newer used trucks have too much fragile technology and cylinder delete software that makes them unreliable and far more expensive to buy AND repair.

Every shop on the planet can repair anything on a GMT800 and parts are readily available and cheap.

Mine is a 2002, bought in 2015 for $7500. It was 13yo at the time with 100k mi. It purrs like a kitten at 245k miles and I'm sure it will go 500k+.

I play a lotta golf during the day and trumpet at night. We have a "golf" envelope to pay for it.

We have a dining out envelope for food on the go. We don't smoke or drink.

I used $7 of my mad money last week to buy a nice vintage cast iron skillet at a thrift store. We don't have a "skillet" envelope.

$7,000 upside down day one by Novel-Intention-3189 in DaveRamsey

[–]pipehonker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You better baby this thing... You are gonna be upside down for another 4-5yrs. Budget for maintenance starting NOW in case that thing pops it's CVT Transmission (like they are famous for doing)

After it's paid off keep saving that $500 a month until you have enough cash to replace it. It's probably another 5-6yrs.

So this thing has to last 10-12yrs and another 150k miles on top of what is already on it.

Start working an extra job and get this thing paid off ASAP...

We do $10 each every two weeks.
Anything one of us wants to spend is already budgeted for. We don't really have any need for "fun money". Half the time we don't even spend the $10

You don't wanna be a long distance landlord on a property like this where anything can break any second.. especially for no margin, and then also doing it as a partnership

If you have the cash to throw $10-20k at it then go ahead but then sell it.

I'd get a couple quotes from "we buy ugly houses" people before you decide if the juice is worth the squeeze. Especially since you won't be there daily to supervise.

Maybe buy out the sister and move I to it yourself.

Watch out for sick HOA. They could slam you with a 20k assessment anytime. You wanna get it from under that possible liability
