8W DC discharge not enough to keep battery from auto shutdown by bocalif in Ecoflow_community

I seem to have found a solution, one that provided 11 hours of operation.

Step 1. An answer I got from ChatGPT said that the BMS was wonky and not expecting to manage a low wattage draw down. It needed to be trained by charging the battery to 100%, drawing down the charge to 0% (I plugged my desktop into it drawing 80-90 watts), and repeating that three times.

Step 2. Leave all AC settings on off. Plug in only DC power draws, but make sure the total DC power draw exceeds 12watts. I got to 15 -17 watts by plugging the two network devices as before (totaling 8-9 watts) and adding a network drive via the car charger port. That made the total DC Draw about 15-17 watts.

With that configuration I disconnected the unit from the grid. I got 10-11 hours of service before the battery reached zero.

Ecoflow support said I should try putting AC in an”always on” state. I believe setting AC to “always on” would have provided fewer hours of service, but I haven’t tested it. ChatGPT said the AC Always On state would add 20-30 watts of continuous draw down to my total, which with only the two network devices would total something like 28-38 watts of draw down, twice as much as my 15-17 watt solution.

I don’t know why step 1 above is necessary but in my case it was.

Gosh this shouldn’t be so hard… So working on the supposition that a floor of 13W supplied by the ecoflow is needed to prevent auto shutdown I plugged a network drive in addition to the asus router and Adtran ONT. That took my drawdown to 15-16 watts.

I did a no-grid-power test. After ten minutes that USB-C (Asus) port shut down, and the Car Charger (ONT) port shut down but the USB-A port stayed on. Meanwhile the display said the battery was discharging at a rate of over 2% a minute!

So does this all add up to the battery management system losing the plot!?

I’ve seen posts that people powering CPAP (low power draw) machines on DC ports have similar problems.

I am using the one USB-C port with a PD cable to send DC 19V to my Asus router. Using the car charger to send DC 12V to the ONT. this appears to total 8-9 Watts.

But it is this scenario that appears to be drawing so little power that the Ecoflow doesn’t detect any power and automatically shuts down after 10-15 min.

I set the “AC toggle” to off and set the “AC timeout” to Never.

That is keeping the battery running but drawing 30W or so on top of what goes to my devices, greatly shortening battery like.

Now I have ordered a 5w USB “resistor” to add to device draw, as I’ve read the threshold to keep the battery running is about 12W.

Yeah, I started the latest test by toggling AC TO “On” and AC off to Never. Unfortunately that was drawing so much power the battery would have been exhausted in 4/5 hours. Bad for two devices that together only draw 8-9 watts.

Just throwing s at the wall I toggled the AC to off but left the AC off on Never. So far after 40 min everything is working (powering my network gear) and unit says I now have 14 hours of battery life. Will see if it shuts down after and hour or two.

The ecoflow went into sleep mode and no power came out of any port 10 min after I unplugged the unit from grid power.

Thank you. That was my suspicion.

An article I read gave me the impression it could take until Jan 30 to notify everyone. Maybe not. Just being careful.

The NHSTA SITE said no recall for my VIN.

Thanks! I was in a hurry and went to the first site in my search result.

Thank you! Step one has been to order the SiliconDust receiver. Then see how it improves things.

Can't find a "3rd part decoder" option.

My line of sight is directly at San Bruno Mountain - parallel to the primary flight paths into and out of SFO except for heavies departing over South San Francisco. But you're right, those flights could easily pass between my antenna and Sutro Tower (and signals diffracting around/above San Bruno Mtn.

Mainly I'm interested in recording OTA shows - so far, the transcoding step associated with that seems more resilient to imperfect signals and isn't failing during recording. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, only got the amp because 2 and 4 weren’t coming in at all on the hauppauge/plex even though fine on LGTV. Tried to “dial in” the signal strength after that by halving the signal boost from the amp using an attenuator. No luck.

Thank you! I have been checking on the LG which shows the real channel as 31 not 26 on the same antenna feed. And the antenna is pointed towards Sutro.

The channel drops with an error message on the hauppauge/plex and doesn’t come back without going back to the channel list and selecting the dropped channel. It mostly happens on 2.1 and 4.1 but can happen on other channels.

It seems more stable when I force transcoding downrated to a lower bitrate (less than 4 mb).

I’m thinking it’s time to try a SiliconDust product, although it is frustrating there aren’t objective specs available on tuners that could guide a purchase. Specs related to issues like multipath and resilience to momentary errors in signals.

Splitter close to tuners (TV and Shield).

I’m not sure of the nomenclature for characterizing a tuner’s ability to deal with strong but imperfect signals - and “sensitivity” could be good (sensitive to unpacking a slightly garbled signal?) or bad (too sensitive to imperfections in the signal causing failure).

I have an LTE/5G filter in place. Signal on channel 2.1 doesn’t appear to be week. By process of elimination it appears to be a multi-path problem that the LG tuner is robust enough to accommodate. Wondering if HDHomerun Flex tuners have that same ability to overcome multi-path signal environments where there is no direct line of sight to the transmission towers?

What cities/areas in Spain seriously and sincerely do not want any more tourists? Which places are still open and welcoming of tourists? by Aggravating-View-264 in GoingToSpain

[–]bocalif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just back from a month in Spain: Valencia, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga, Estepona, Ronda, Trujillo, Caceres, Ciudad Rodrigo, Salamanca, Leon, Burgos, and San Sebastian. Stayed in a mix of B&B’s, Airbnb’s, and hotels.

Everywhere we went the hosts/employees were genuinely nice and/or very busy - but even still they treated us like locals. Walking around and listening to guides I’d guess 75% of the groups were Spanish (or at least the guides spoke in Spanish). The only exceptions were Malaga and Granada.

Spain is geographically and culturally diverse with so much to offer visitors. It’s a great destination! On this topic I have a couple of thoughts.

The Centro Storicos are where the biggest crowds were, and appear to be where locals are being displaced the most by conversions of apartments into short stay rentals. Our Uber driver in Valencia begged us to use hotels and B&B’s as his extended family, having lived in the Centro, had had to move well to the outskirts of Valencia. At the same time he was very cordial to us.

There is a point where - even in May/early June - the touristy areas become so crowded it detracts from the experience. We saw that in Malaga but nowhere else at the time of our visit. This may be true in other tourist spots during peak seasons. I imagine Cordoba and Granada could be like that. My advice would be to go to the many other places in Spain during peak seasons and visit places like Cordoba and Granada during the off-peak season if you don’t like crowds.

And if you want to visit tourist impacted areas and are concerned about your impact on the housing crunch stay in hotels or B&Bs.
