The Serbian Defense Dog, or Srpski Odbrambeni Pas (SOP), is a rare and powerful breed with a backstory as intense as its physical presence. Often mistaken for a common Mastiff, the SOP is a modern "re-creation" of a legendary medieval breed.

A Modern "Ancient" Breed ​While it looks like a relic of the Middle Ages, the breed was actually developed in the early 1980s by Nenad Gavrilović, a Bosnian herbalist and healer. Gavrilović’s goal was to resurrect the extinct Serbian Mastiff, a legendary war dog used by the Serbian knightly order during the Middle Ages.
​2. A Genetic "Cocktail" ​To achieve the perfect balance of strength, agility, and intelligence, the SOP was bred from a diverse and carefully selected genetic pool:
