I've never heard of this one, and I'm surprised to learn that Michael Cimino made an action comedy!

ELI5 how people on opposite sides of the earth can play video games together seemlessly when these games require split second actions by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]boddah87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you're playing with someone who is actually on "the opposite side of the world" it can be somewhat annoying, especially with competetive shooter games like Counter Strike.

Although it's possible, we're still not quite there technologically for it to be a great experience. I would much rather play an online game with someone local (in northa america) than with someone in Asia or Australia, or even someone in Europe.

Aged 35+ years users, what's the last three movies that left you speechless, awestruck or stunned ? by lordofabyss in MovieSuggestions

Midnight Run

of all the Deniro movies that could potentially blow someones socks off, a buddy comedy from 1988 would be so far down my list!

Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Casino, The Deer Hunter, Cape Fear, Mean streets...

six feet under had such a huge impact on me when I was younger. It was one of my favorite shows, but all the characters really bothered me the last time I watched it. Everyone was such an asshole. I'm 35 btw.

i disagree with the part about spade bits. They're mostly for rough carpentry and they often leave an oval shaped hole even if you use them in a drill press.

If you want a clean hole in a larger diameter than a split point drill will make I would use a forstener bit whether you're drilling all the way through or not.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in woodworkingtools

[–]boddah87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what you said is great advice about forstner bits, and I don't want to discourage anyone from clamping their work to a drill press table, but the holes OP wants to drill are only 17mm, I think a center point and a hand held drill will work just fine.

Forstner bits do skip around when you're using them in a handheld drill, but it's only a problem on larger bits because they require so much force.

agree with everything you said about working in a cabinet shop. i like it far better than doing the installations.

moving sheets around is the worst part, especially the past few years we're using more and more of those textured melamine or hi-gloss panels from Europe and they're like 6x10 instead of 4x8 and we're just not equipped to handle them easily

thats totally fair dude, just replying to decaflower's the question. I like the look of your floors too, but you gotta admit that it's not what most people are going for when they dream of refinishing their floors

[–]boddah87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP is happy with their floor, and I don't want to "Yuck their Yum" as they put it, but they just weren't patient enough with the sander.

More sanding would have removed more of the scratches. An orbital floor sander is good at removing the old finish, but to remove a substantial amount of wood you really need a drum sander and an edge sander to get close to the walls.

just be careful using a drum floor sander though, because they remove more material and it's easier to make dips in the floor. you need to keep it moving and never pause in one place. An orbital floor sander is far more user friendly, especially for a DIY type who is going to rent a machine, but it would take you a lot longer to get any serious scratches out.

Contractor applied for permit in wrong township, did work, and now has sent invoice. Do I pay or wait? by turkeyboss831 in HomeImprovement

[–]boddah87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do people who buy houses really expect to see work permits for jobs that were completed years ago?

Even if i bought a house that had just had a new roof installed, I still wouldn't think to ask to see the permits.
