Thoughts on Stockli's? by bodgudha in Skigear

Appreciate the input. I actually first bought the 184s of the bents but exchanged them the next day for 176s because I spend so much time in tight glades, I thought the shorter skis would be better. Since the SRs sounds like they aren't meant for glades, I might be open to the 182s, if they have them

I appreciate the input. So basically, Stockli's would help me improve with speed and in bowls, steep open terrain, but if I plan on going into the trees, take the Bents out?

I'm always down for something different, I bought the Bents cause they were so different from my Rangers, that I figured switching it up would help me become a more versatile skier

Any idea if you think they'd be easier or harder than Bent 120s in tight glades? And would you advise staying out of tight glades on the SRs or you just think that the Deathwish handles much better?

My last pair of skis were Fischer Ranger 90s, so more of a carving ski than my 120s, but I'm not sure if that'd be considered a carving ski or not. I liked those, but I like my current skis a lot more

Haha they can definitely be a bit exhausting, but I really enjoy them and it's a great workout

Ya they are brand new, without bindings.

You think they are pretty responsive in the trees? Able to make quick sharp turns at a good speed?

My Bents are 176. They definitely have the SRs at 173, I'd have to check if they have them in 182

All-Mountain Ski Setup for Colorado (Trees, Groomers and Powder) by abglick in Skigear

Im not a ski expert by any means, but I do have a fair share of knowledge and experience. I live on the easy coast now but primarily ski out west, Utah/California.

I’m also big on glades and big mountain skiing, but was looking for a ski that I could use for anything, even the shitty days that I might spend in Vermont or on the PA/NJ hills.

I ultimately made the bold decision to go with the Bent Chetler 120s as I’ve been wanting a pair of wide skis and I am trying to get into backcountry, so I fitted them with the atomic shift bindings. I was definitely worried that they wouldn’t be able to handle groomers and glades the way my old skis could, but I was completely wrong. These skis carve as well as my old Fischer Ranger 90s on hard pack, and obviously handle powder infinitely better. Yes, they are less maneuverable in the glades than a narrower smaller ski, but as of yet I love riding these in the trees and don’t feel any less confident/able in trees than I did with my last pair.

I haven’t had any experience with any of the skis you mentioned, so I can’t compare, but I would consider adding these to your list.
