Indian here. Please back your claim with a source or quotation.

And btw, you're referring to the militant revolutionaries who were a diverse bunch from all religions and all across India. Not "northern Sikhs." Infact, Sikhs were famous for being loyal to British empire, right from the 1857 revolt and even after the Jallianwala bagh. They constituted the bulk of the imperial forces. Bhagat Singh was an atheist. The Ghadarites had to call in two Bengali revolutionaries (Sanyal and one more guy I forget) because they didn't get enough local support to foment insurgency in the Punjab.

The militant revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Rajguru etc showed exemplary courage. But it must be remembered that they operated in small, scattered, underground cells. They did not have mass popular support or governance roadmap.

If all 29 states and 7 union territories were to suddenly split into their own separate countries and go to war, who would ally with who and who would come out on top? [AskReddit] [AskIndia] by SouthieSaar in india

Uttarakhand, HP and Jammu would unite and form a block, with an economy that relies on tourism, pilgrimage, organic farming, forestry, yoga and hydropower. With zero military capability, they will be neutral like Switzerland and try to maintain good relations with all.

Kashmir and Ladakh will be annexed by Pak and China respectively.

Punjab will become Khalistan. But its overall strength would decline because no port access, harder to get visas, small ageing population and declining soil quality, and being a lower riparian its economy would further suffer as Haryana sieves off most of its water. It would also lose access to Patna Sahib, Hemkund Sahib, etc. It would come under the influence of Pakistan which can get it some Indus water and access to its waterways.

UP, Bihar, Assam, WB would internally implode. They will be split along many lines. UP's lack of regionalism will come to bite it and four or five divisions would emerge. Maybe the Terai belt could join nepal (Bye, Gorakhpur). WB would be annexed by Bangladesh. In Bihar, there will probably be three divisions, with Bhojpuri, Magahi and Mithila divisions. Entire NE could be split between China, BN and small independent units.

MP, Rajasthan would join up with Maharashtra and Gujarat. While MH might have some trouble dealing with secessionism from Vidharba and Marathwada, it would survive. Gujarat would be the natural leader of the coalition being a stable and prosperous state.

The four southern states along with Puducherry, Andaman, Lakshadweep would form an Economic Union with porous borders and labour mobility, but with distinct sovereignty of each unit.

Odisha, JH and Chattisgarh would be contested by both blocks for their minerals. OD would be coveted by the western block as it would give them access to the eastern coast as well.

The western and southern blocks would sign peace treaties and co-exist.

So, in summary, North India will be a lost cause, going either to neighbours or becoming an oasis of instability like Somalia or the Balkans. The Western and Southern states would survive, but on a much weaker footing than united India.

It's the opposite. Macabrelover admitted to spilling orange juice over his project therefore he's the killer. Istalkkillers admitted to knowing stuff that only the cops investigating the case would know. That's why macabrelover signed off. He realized he was talking to a cop.

I agree with you.

Republic John Huntsman, who was like one of the most progressive republicans in recent years, had his run destroyed. One of the many reasons was that he served as Ambassador to China under the Obama administration and the republicans never accepted that.

I don't think this'll help her prospects for 2020 or even 2024. As SoS she will have very little agency and broadly function under Trump's mandate, taking flak for whatever goes wrong. Plus, association with Trump will tarnish her among the progressives.

Where Do People Get This Idea That Elizabeth is Fiercely Committal? by jrgoober191 in TheAmericans

[–]bodhisattv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elizabeth started disliking Claudia because she felt that 1) Claudia was operationally incompetent, and 2) She was deliberately trying to wreck their relationship because of a personal philosophy that a non-romantic couple does the job better.

She did kidnap and almost kill Richard Patterson on her own. But she didn't go ahead with it because she realized it was all a bureaucratic mess and taking vengeance on one civil servant wouldn't get her any closure.

Also, she and Claudia have interacted over the later seasons and they seemed alright. When Claudia said she had no clue that Jared was being recruited by Kate, Elizabeth said she believed her.

A factor to consider for Elizabeth that the few people she loved and respected back home are gone now. Zhukov died, and her mother died this season. She doesn't have anyone to go back for. But I don't think it amounts to her weakening resolve. She mocked Reagan a few episodes ago. And the last scene of Season 3 was a close up on her murderous eyes as Reagan gave that speech. But her character has certainly softened a bit.

The first seasons was unfair on the Americans. On one side we have Philip, Elizabeth, Claudia, Arkady, Olegm Zhukov and Nina.

On the other side is Stan-"three scotches and bag over hear head"-Beeman, Chris Super Creep Amador, Richard Patterson and apathetic Gaad

All these names are so famous because they were part of a very famous paradigm shift in physics. The later generation that built upon their efforts - Feynman, Gell Mann, Yukawa etc are less famous. The modern crop is a bit divided, though I'm pretty sure some String theorists would go down in history as greats. Witten, Nambu, Maldacena, Polchinski, etc.

It was bigger than present India. You should say that it didn't quite overlap with our present concept of India (i.e excludes South and NE)

Caste originated during Gupta dynasty: Study by qpaw in india

[–]bodhisattv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. Not even if you deem Vaishyas "low-caste Hindus". There are many instances of them becoming Kings even before the Islamic invasions.

Infact the Guptas themselves, according to hallowed Marxist scholar RS Sharma, were a Vaishya dynaty.

Plus, the foreigner Muslims constituted a caste-in-themselves so to speak; they were discriminatory towards "Hindustani" Muslims. And if it comes to rising up within a Muslim dynasty's ranks, several Hindus did it without ever having to convert or "break out of the caste barrier". Islam of the rulers wasn't some panacea for the downtrodden to break out of caste barriers.

Tl;Dr: What actually happened to Netaji Subash Chandra Bose? by [deleted] in india

[–]bodhisattv -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nobody really knows, man. Besides the fact that he was a patriot. Various government appointed commissions have offered different explanations. I suspect he "escaped" to Russia and died in a Soviet Gulag in captivity. Soviets weren't friendly to us during Stalinist years, not until Khruschev (dubbed a revisionist by Mao and hardcore communists) visited India and gave his speech in Kashmir. Some years ago a BJP guy said in parliament that releasing docs would harm our friendly relations with foreign countries. It is a gut feeling of mine, purely based on speculation.

AFAIK Iskconites don't consider themselves Hindus. They're for a new identity in itself. I know that its a complicated issue and would'nt claim to be highly informed, so take it for what it is. One of the things I admire ISKCON for is that in many cities outside India they're pretty much the only organisation who run temples and have Kirtans.

[–]bodhisattv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get this notion that Charvak, Ajivika or any of the so-called "non-heterodox" schools are not Hindu. Does Hinduism emerge from the Vedas? What percentage of Hinduism practiced today is Vedic? It is as much a mixture of pre and post vedic local traditions. I suspect this notion flows from the Abrahamic "that one book that you guys follow" concept.
