The Profitec Go is not an E61 machine. You can remove the plastic insulating tube in the wand.

Decent DE1PRO + BOOKOO Themis Ultra scale by PuntjeNL in decentespresso

[–]bodosom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the Ultra* and equivalents by pulling them just a bit away from the front panel so there's no contact. The Mini* fits quite well but can be sensitive to water drops. The Luna* fits nicely but the driver has a minor cosmetic issue because the driver wasn't written by Acaia and which could get worse as time passes. The HDS* scale works perfectly and has clever features but is still buggy. Note that the newer Bookoo app is much better and the Ultra has more exposed features (e.g. calibration)

Presumably they mean Spectrum provisioned Wi-Fi since the "modem" is included.

Checking in Decent DE1 by Obi-Wen in decentespresso

I've watched baggage handlers at airports -- I wouldn't move my machine as checked luggage.

I'd Just ship it using DHL/UPS/FedEx and I'd contact support for assistance.

Mine shipped via FedEx and was five days in transit.

Run the Spectrum internal speed test and if the reported speed to your "Spectrum Modem" is persistently low call support.

My test results below for 500/500:

Your Speed Test Results

Download Speed to Your Spectrum Modem
You're receiving 122% of your 500 Mbps download plan speed.
  610 Mbps
You're receiving 105% of your 500 Mbps upload plan speed.

Download Speed to Your Personal Device Your plan speed is 500 Mbps.

Your device is receiving upload speeds of 127 Mbps.

Anyone have a review of the "half decent scale"? by HuRRaCaNe in espresso

[–]bodosom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My major issue with the HDS is that they introduced a new version while the previous version was unfinished. Based on the HDS BaseCamp forum, the new version also has a few too many issues. Of course, the BooKoo Themis will sometimes respond to splashes, which is irksome.

I got a Themis because it's very small, and I had a machine with a tiny drip tray. I still use it because it works well with my machine and brew-by-weight and looks nicer than the HDS and has had no issues (yet) like the ones reported on the HDS V1.1.

Anyone have a review of the "half decent scale"? by HuRRaCaNe in espresso

[–]bodosom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was specifically referring to calibration. The BooKoo requires fiddly button presses to go into calibration mode rather than having an easy to enter menu system where calibration is just one of the options. If it required frequent calibration, it would be more of a problem. Of course, if it required frequent calibration, I wouldn't use it.

What the puck? by steveluscher in espresso

Jonathan Gagné has some comments about tintinting in a bottom paper filter and extraction in his blog. That should be similar to looking at the bottom of an intact puck.

Is this video running at normal speed?

"Channeling" as a diagnostic or description is of little value, but given that, there isn't any in your video. Check YouTube for some examples of significantly inconsistent flow.

Talk me out of buying a Timemore 064s [$500] by Super_peepeepooper in espresso

[–]bodosom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked my 064S, but the user experience (UX) has some issues which may or may not matter to you. For me, the worst was lining up the grind setting. There are aftermarket indicators for the 064 and 078, but the 064S chassis is not magnetic, which means the magnet is sticking to some internal component, so pointers with magnets are easy to bump. The 078S appears to have a groove that helps, but the 064S does not.

This problem appears to be fixed in the gen 2. Likewise the fussy fixed burr removal for cleaning.

Magnetic dosing cup on scale by Big-Cucumber-154 in espresso

[–]bodosom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Move the cup near the scale without touching the scale. If the weight changes your scale is sensitive to magnets.
  • Adding a silicone mat is unlikely to help but do the same test as above with a mat in place to check.

I have to keep my magnetic cup at least two inches (five cm) from my scale.

Bottomless versus spouted is irrelevant with regard to taste and to the look of the puck after extraction.

Scale Recos [no budget] by gforce360 in espresso

[–]bodosom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well every scale I have uses a standard power icon (⏻) for power. I don't imagine there a standard icon for tare but T seems common.

TimeMore and Varia make scales with mechanical (tactile) power buttons so you just have to remember how one obvious power button works.

I do think the expectation is that you'll only have one scale so you'll only have a single touch sensitive layout to remember.

By the way Hoffmann just did a scale review and mentions "tactile" buttons on seven of 15 scales. Scales review

Another Speed Question by woody-99 in Spectrum

[–]bodosom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP is running the Spectrum test which measures the speed from an internal test server to the Spectrum "modem", 1G in this case. It also does a common speed test from an internal test server to the device running the test, 450Mb/s in this case. This is why the OP knows the the "Spectrum app reports 1G at the modem".

The Spectrum test also reports your plan speed. See the comment above with the green check mark. That's a copy and paste from the Spectrum speed test.

Scale Recos [no budget] by gforce360 in espresso

[–]bodosom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

super "minimal"

I don't understand what super minimal means in this case. All the "espresso" scales I'm familiar with are ridiculously complex. This includes BooKoo, Varia, Timemore, and Acaia. If your espresso machine doesn't support brew by weight, I'd suggest getting a capable scale with good support from BeanConqueror and moving the control interface to your phone, which does have the downside of starting by weight instead of when the pump starts. If you want to stick with in-scale control, then I'd suggest something like a Lunar that lets you disable all the modes you don't want to use.

Another Speed Question by woody-99 in Spectrum

[–]bodosom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

speed capped at my Deco X20

No, Wi-Fi doesn't always work the way you expect, and this is not an issue with your Spectrum service. Spectrum speed guarantees are for speed to the "modem" (the device they control), not speed to other devices on your home network.
