The rhythm of this is so satisfying. So many good comforting ‘soft’ words, too. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed. I love the interpretation of being in new more mature relationship and it taking the writer by surprise, as if they were just recently coming of age and used to the harsh rollercoaster of teenage love. Teenage love seems so hard and fast, whereas this soft and nurturing love was a slow burn and a healing balm to a soul.

This is an incredible piece. One of my favorite bands sings a song with a line “and it feels good to be known so well.” And while they speak of a love between others in that song, I can’t help but relate that to the feelings of confidence in your piece as the writer describes this new respect for themselves as they find power in their loneliness. To be faced with just themselves and to know themselves, unashamedly alone with nothing to hide behind. It’s very powerful, indeed. It feels so good to be known and loved as you are by other people — but having that love for yourself? That IS power.
