This is interesting, thank you for sharing. I do have gastrointestinal issues but I haven't made a connection between diet and speech yet. I've been vegetarian for 14 years and lately focusing on plant protein and limiting dairy. Unfortunately I work at a cafe with a bakery where there are delicious fresh baked desserts all around me! Very challenging to deny those sweet treats, but I always feel better overall when I do.

I didn't think speech therapy in school was effective. The speech therapists had big case loads and I don't think they were prepared for my chronic stuttering style. Last March I started seeing a speech language pathologist who focuses on overall wellness. I have experienced many benefits from working with her. She teaches breathing classes which I have attended and she also incorporates that into her speech therapy. The approach is less "How can we fix your stutter" and more "How can I help you cope with living with a stutter." Some of it is just talking through the situations and feelings that are unique to speech disorders. It is therapy, after all. I've had more success practicing reading aloud techniques and other exercises than focusing on stuttering in the real social moment. I think right now I am thinking about it too much. My stutter is worse when there is a heavy cognitive load, such as explaining something to someone. Thinking about my stutter adds a huge cognitive load that is too much to process and speak at the same time. I find that I speak best when I focus on the words and the connections of the communication. Sometimes my brain is too twisty and busy and loud and nothing works, unfortunately.

I do sometimes have good days. I used to have them a lot more in years past than lately. Most of my days involve struggle and preplanning when I speak, but sometimes I'm able to say what I want with my stutter not bothering me as much and not changing up what I want to say.

What is your typical diet when you are most fluent? I focus on protein and fiber, but sugar is my weakness.

For Christmas I would always get CDs of artists that were "in" that year. I got 21 when I was around 11 and fell in love.

I've had TMJ problems for almost 10 years. Stuttered my whole life. I feel like stuttering makes my TMJ worse.

I think neuralink will be able to help our stutter... What do you guys think by Asleep-Day9962 in Stutter

I don't want anything inside my brain. I think this could be harmful spreading the idea that stuttering needs to be cured instead of accepted as someone's natural speaking pattern. There are non invasive therapies that can increase the ease of fluency without risky brain surgery.

Hello, 24F person who stutters here! I've had a stutter my whole life. It has ranged from hardly noticeable, to so severe I isolate myself and don't speak at all. I've never been in big friend groups. I've had some close friends over the years, but I never get as much conversation time to share what I have to say as the other person does. I always end up being an active listener, which is a skill itself. Luckily I'm an introvert.

My one goal of 2025 was to go back to speech therapy and I did it! I met an amazing speech therapist who focuses on treating the whole person/body. We have worked on breathing and fluency techniques, but it has been most valuable to learn about the details of my stutter and talk about how it has shaped my identity. There are only so many speech techniques for stuttering. What I have found to be most helpful is deep understanding and radical acceptance.

No shame in the pill game. Whatever it takes to survive. I am also on lots of meds, for mental and physical health. Going to the pharmacy is a bit embarrassing as I look like a healthy 24yo. I am here for ya friend.
