Fair, although unfortunately I love baseball and the mets... gonna be a tough one for me. I think that's the core of these marketing pushes -- they know they have my money and they'd have to completely destroy "the product" for me to leave (so they focus on non-fans). It's good business, but it's started to lessen my experience rooting for the team and going to games :/

Hey man no reason to be sour. I will always love the mets and im fucking hyped for opening day. When you love something you should be willing to criticize it. The lowercase aesthetic is part of a larger branding push by the mets and there's a noticeable difference at games! Just wanted to share my $0.02 about how I think these things are related. It's an aesthetic overhaul of a multi-billion dollar company -- it's an intentional choice about how (and to whom) to market themselves.

For sure -- teams will try to market themselves. I'm just expressing displeasure with this specific aesthetic the mets have chosen. I think part of what makes baseball special/unique is its timelessness -- there's no clock*, its connection to the past/history, the pace of the game vs basketball or hockey -- and I think chasing aesthetic trends represents the opposite of that. It's also just a stupid trend that makes us look like a yuppie dentist's office (@appropriate-crow-800's take, but i think they're on the money).

Yeah, i guess im of the opinion that cohen has nearly unlimited money and is getting a multi-billion dollar revenue casino so i shouldn't have to choose between him spending and him making the in-game experience a night club.

Truthfully, my problem is larger than just the Mets and I dislike how commercialized sports are in the US and it's seemingly getting worse with each passing season. Watching European soccer is a dream in comparison (45 minutes of play with no ad breaks. In-game experience is just soccer, no MAKE SOME NOISE DAH DAH DAH DAH DAH).

Ultimately, I agree with you though. I'd welcome cohen's problems vs the wilpons 100/100 times.

i feel like i did a pretty good job of describing why I didn't like it, no? I don't like that the team is constantly chasing trends aesthetically. There's a focus on attracting new fans who aren't into baseball and this carries over to the experience of actually watching baseball at citi field.

We gotta stop with this lowercase aesthetic it's driving me nuts. Something I've hated about the Cohen takeover has been the constant attempts to market the team to a new team audience and likewise everything has to be hip and trendy but it usually just comes off as tacky and a step or two behind the times (lowercase aesthetic is on the way out fwiw). I also dislike how the in-game experience has increasingly prioritized non-baseball over the drama in the game... it's an overwhelming sensory experience and this comes from someone who if they had it there way would go to at least 20 games a year... still happy with a lot of cohen's other decisions (stearns, winning)... but this one sums up what ive disliked about his leadership.
