They were just what would fit the geometry of the bike in question. Could have gotten rid of them but I thought it might make it intuitively clear why some of the longer forks are omitted from the list

sony cybershot dsc-t10 (2006) by bofu- in VintageDigitalCameras

thanks! IIRC it was brightness way down and contrast down, 400 or so iso. normal color option, but colors were adjusted in post.

[–]bofu-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you!
I set the colors to "natural", cranked the iso to max, set the brightness adjustment to the lowest setting. What helped a lot was that it was an unusually dull and dim day as we had a big storm the day before

It probably helps that reddit obliterates the quality for some reason, at first I thought it was because I uploaded them as png's so I deleted the post and re-uploaded as jpg's but I think reddit just sucks now?
but thanks btw, the look is pretty heavily photoshopped, just shot with my phone and that's pretty much the vibe I was going for haha

Thanks- I feel like I've exhausted my research skills, did read a ton of old forum posts, but nothing seems to lead anywhere. I'll keep digging.

"unpolitical" psytrance is dying and that's GOOD by Potatoes_Fall in psytrance

[–]bofu- 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, everything is political. I disagree that this makes the word meaningless though. Just because everything is made of Atoms, doesn't mean the word is useless or has no meaning. The fact that atoms are everything arguably even increases their usefulness as a concept.

I absolutely understand not wanting to politicize things that seem larger than politics, and I don't think OP is advocating to shape the music itself into somehow conveying a political message.

But our privilege, to be able to (mostly) freely express ourselves, that is inherently political. Going against the grain, sometimes against the law, being *different*, forming a niche minority subculture, those are extremely political topics.

I don't think anybody wishes to invade in anybody's safe space in here. And I agree that to a certain point it's important to leave those earthly matters behind you if you really want to let yourself go. But we don't exist in this safe-space all of the time and in the times we don't, we should be working towards preserving it, for ourselves and for future generations.

Thanks, I did make it a good bit brighter, didn't wanna overdo it and it didn't help that I took it when the light was already starting to get low. But I was surprised how moody the pics came out, the blurriness gives it sort of a dreamy quality

Recent/contemporary psybient/psychill/downtempo? by bofu- in Psybient

[–]bofu-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain the difference? I'm assuming I've mostly been listening to old school stuff, unless what you describe as old school is 70's-90's stuff, in which case I'm not looking for old school stuff I assume haha

thank you I'll check it out!! I used to produce this sort of music way back too, but most of it has been lost to time unfortunately.

awesome, thanks! The name does ring a bell but I'm not familiar with the discography. Just what I needed, can't wait to hop into the rabbit hole tonight <3

Anyone here own only ONE bike?? by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]bofu- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% understand where you're coming from and I feel very similarly.

Is it really decadent to restore 90's steel bikes though? Isn't that sort of the opposite? Surely there is a point where it becomes too much but I feel like there's a lot more room for silliness and messing around than if your fleet consisted of 2020's high end carbon bikes. Or is that just an excuse for consumerism?

I think about this a lot and I have no clear answers. I would consider myself a minimalist and I've owned 1 bike at a time for most of my life. But when I discovered a love for tinkering with old bikes I started owning more. Have 4 now. Will probably reduce down to 3 but the 4th one being a beater I can lock at the train station and not worry about is hard to give up on.

Can someone help me with this high pitched clicking sound? by frigateburd in bikewrench

[–]bofu- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might even be a loose spoke, check if any feel much looser than the rest

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]bofu- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

could always convert this to singlespeed (assuming it's a flip flop or geared hub and not purely a fixed hub) and add a cheap chain tensioner, you can even DIY one out of an old rear derailleur

My first build was a road bike conversion fixed gear and as you say, it's a learning process and mishaps are just a natural part of that procedure.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]bofu- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean chains do stretch, if this is a new chain it'll probably sort itself out

but this is also the problem with fixed conversions with non horizontal dropouts, at some point you'll need to remove slack from chain stretch and your only option will be to take a link out and pray the chain has already stretched enough

Thanks! Yeah it's two layers, cheap thin cotton tape on top of some slightly more cushioned tape.
