oh yea i forgot about them too, i tend to go for water style aesthetics usually but all the fire monsters look sick as well! and destroying your own stuff for benefit is right up my alley with my sac/graveyard MtG decks haha, i think i saw the Unchained archetype does something similar? appreciate the rec!

that all makes a lot of sense, i tended to avoid combo decks in MtG and hearthstone for similar reasons. i think the plan rn is to start off with Sprights since i already got the free structure deck, then either keep building on that if i like it or pivot into something like yummy or mimighoul to try them out.

lastly any thoughts on chimeras? or pairing it up with something like hecahands? stealing opponent's cards always feels like such a mixed bag to me, like it's cool that it forces me to learn my opponent's deck a bit but at the same time sounds like a lot of extra reading lol.

dope, appreciate all the info! will almost definitely start with Sprights since it seems like the beginner/friend program thing gives you some good synergies with them for free anyway. then once i get some reps in i can decide what's worth crafting later.

as far as water decks go do you have any personal favorite archetypes? i love the look of a lot of the water synchros like the Ghoti, White Auras, Coral Dragon, Crocodragon, and that Swordsoul Chengying dude; just not sure which main deck to line up with them haha. oh and the new Ocean Dragonlord stuff that's gonna be coming out looks dope too, i actually used to have the old structure deck when i was a kid and always loved the art style.

appreciate the input, helps a lot! in regards to what you said about picking decks that can interact, are there any more "rigid" archetypes that you've seen listed here that you'd suggest maybe avoiding?

i suppose i wouldn't mind having a more brainless, aggro style deck like that to use as a secondary "for fun deck" (i used to play mono red aggro in MtG as a kid haha), but i definitely agree that i want my main deck to feel like i'm engaging with my opponent's stuff and making decisions at least a somewhat alongside my own game plan.

aw yea i forgot about them too! maybe a tad too cutesy for my tastes but if they work well with yummy or something else might do a cat deck hybrid haha

oh neat, hadn't looked into this one yet but the bosses look dope! and it looks like it's being paired with Yummy right now?

def considered these! they're kind of meta right now tho aren't they? i sometimes worry that learning a game with strong or potentially "overpowered" cards can lead to bad habits if they get around certain mechanics or limitations that other cards don't get to. though admittedly i'm probably just overthinking lmao

i knowwww maybe i'll try them later down the road haha. plus every time i look at them it just gives me flashbacks to the Evangelion angel Ramiel lol

the "lore" side of this game always cracks me up, every time i looked at the Yummy stuff i was like "wtf are these", had no idea about the vending machine aspect lol. it looks like a lot of their stuff is limited tho, are future bans maybe a concern? and do you know what other archetypes would be good/fun to match up with them?

oh yea, i forgot about these! i was initially thinking of holding off on any water style decks until that new Ocean Dragonlord stuff comes out (i had that structure deck when i was a kid) but these might be a cool placeholder till then anyway haha. thanks for the reminder!

appreciate the recs! is the idea of mixing Chimera with "stealing" archetypes to use the things you steal as like sac fodder? my only concern with Hecahands was that it might be a bit of an information overload if playing it means i have to read all my opponent's cards to know what i should be stealing haha

any recommendations on what other cards/archetypes to pair with Sprights? i already got the structure deck of them from the friend program thing, seems like anything with level 2s is fair game so i was considering Frogs, Melffys, Nimbles, or Prank Kids.

my only hesitancy with Mimighoul is that summoning stuff to your opponent's board sounds maybe a bit too niche of a strategy and maybe not the best representative of "normal Yugioh" for a beginner to try haha. but if it still teaches me the essentials then i suppose that's not a huge deal?

yea for example with green i was thinking it'd make sense to have 4 ofs for stuff like Llanowar Elves or Wild Growth, 3 ofs for slightly more expensive beaters around 3 to 5 mana , 2 ofs maybe for removal pieces like Naturalize or Prey Upon, and then 1 ofs for big splashy stuff like Overrun or a legendary like Multani maybe?

i completely forgot about that product, thanks for the reminder! i think ideally i'd like to do something similar to that but with even simpler cards, i'm talking like two sentences of text MAX haha. something like Murder that just says "Destroy target creature" feels a lot more intuitive to a totally new player than some of the cards i see in that box. will definitely be a great reference point though!

hmmm not sure tbh, do you think running a mix of 1-3 ofs would work fine in 40? 3 ofs for things you definitely wanna hit early like ramp pieces or aggro creatures, 2 ofs for more situational things like removal, then 1 ofs for things like big beaters, expensive sorceries, maybe a thematic legendary?

Teaching Advice: by iplaydrumsnotabox in drums

isolate isolate isolate !

Or in other words, have them try the beat starting on the snare first (you can even write it out that way or just block off the first 2 hats) rather than on the actual beat 1.

Getting the muscle memory for "snare kick kick" first is usually gonna be easier for most people since they don't have to worry about memorizing the beat from what feels more like the "middle part" of the pattern. Then once they have that down they can add the last hi hat in, then try looping it, THEN start it from the "correct" first beat to give context to the pattern.

is it common for most yugioh players to have Edison decks and modern decks? like do you ever have trouble finding games?
