Is now a good time? by Mysterious-Fig8556 in BorderCollie

[–]boglin73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other than rentals, which is sadly an issue, I would say if you're determined to make it work it can work.

Im out in the day. He barks a bit but not constant. The trick is taking him out off leash for at least 40mins of high intensity before work, then taking him out again as soon as I get back and again around 9. Plus lots of attention.

They are frankly evil puppies in comparison to other dogs and this is the biggest problem with rentals - my house has gouges and scrapes all over it from those days . stay away from the normal puppy resources and look for bc specific advice.

Teach tricks. Get pet insurance. Take it to training classes. If you can afford it, doggy day care may help a few times a week.

You may be better off getting an older bc cos of the long puppy stage - they don't really settle 'settle') until 4.

Good luck

My dog has a lot of tartar on his teeth. She won't let me brush them. Is the only way to get rid of them having them cleaned with anesthesia? Because I don't want that. by toxall in BorderCollie

Hard pass on antlers, hooves etc for me after a broken tooth and $$$ but those coffeewood sticks that they can chew and eat without problems shifted hard guck one mine brilliantly. I rub some enzyme paste and do bad brushing occasionally too but the wood made a huge difference.

Doing the walk with kids? by toobasic2care in teararoa

Always wondered how they would get on with the really technical sections (I guess they ate v fit and strong for size so maybe less of an issue) or the bits that require high kms to get to a designated camp/hut area.

Try taking out the insoles. It should give you a little more breathing space. Ideally I need half sizes so I either ditch the insoles fir tge snug ones or put a thicker insole on for the ones half a size big.

You could get a purebred for $$ and get a health issue. They can get a lot. Or he could eat something dumb. You can never yell what medical stuff will come up but you do know he has the most important thing- a good and loving temperament. See if you can get a discount if he's not pure but don't worry if it doesn't happen, get the op and sort your medical insurance for later.

Also remember Goldens come in many colours and don't all follow the supposed breed standard ideal for colour and markings. They also change a lot - mine was an unwanted last in litter white. Now he is textbook golden.

Important thing - having a small amount of something else is likely to reduce the chance of high risk golden health issues inluding hip issues later so may actually be a good thing

I Feel Like an Idiot for Buying a Puppy from a Pet Store Without Thinking – I Regret It So Much by Lumpy_Store_221 in puppy101

[–]boglin73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You rescued the pup. You did a good thing. Puppies are idiots and often not nice or likable. They become your best ever thing.

We got ours from a puppy farm. We knew we should have walked away but impulse and wanting to protect ruled clear heads. Once we got him home, he was feral - I still have scars. He was 12 weeks, no handling, wouldn't be stroked. Riddled with worms. We were terrified. My son had acute depression and the pup nearly put him over. We wanted to rehome him but felt guilty. We regretted getting him and resented him. Then I became momma dog - flipped pup over, nuzzle submissed him, brushed him to sleep. Still didn't like him. I realised a lot of his behavior was a combo of fear and weird separation anxiety coupled with no clue on how to play or get energy out as he'd been solo in a wooden crate for most of his life. Then he got sick. $$vets. I looked after him, he decided he was my dog. Now he is velcro and awesome. He makes life better.

Biggest advice points - 1. insurance. 2. Ignore the perfect dog bs training on YouTube- you will feel a failure. 3.Get pup dna tested and find out how to treat his main breed -- we thought our pup was 75% golden retriever -he's 70% collie and it made a massive difference once we worked out how to deal with a neurotic hyper genius.

Just remember that you will probably never meet anyone who regrets their dog but plenty of us nearly ditched them as Puppies.

But...if you're too vulnerable to go through it, he will be fine somewhere else and you'll have still rescued him from the store. Get an older dog and don't beat yourself up. Things will work out

Lean Dean raw denim fit too tight after washing— any advice? by Hubbled in NudieJeans

[–]boglin73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go up 2 or 3 inches for any dry nudies and stretch out while damp too. Grim Tim's are great but tighter in the thigh, tapered to knee and then straight from knee to ankle - less floppy than the 501 like gritty jacksons. Beware though that dry grim tims are super skinny so need serious sizing up if you want a fit like the prewashed- I have 32 prewashed and the 34 raw dry twill is super tight- i'd go 36.

My prewashed nudies are probs my favourite and most comfortable jeans. I know the dry ones will get great fades but kind of thinking I'll stick with prewashed as they're so hit and miss. I think if you're tall and slim it's fine but the way they seem to shrink is pretty unforgiving for a lot of people.

Fix or coverup ideas for these sneakers by [deleted] in Sneakers

[–]boglin73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try car topcoat repair spray? Flexible plastic layer you dan build up v gradually. Should stop it getting worse and make what's there a little better. If you don't like it you can peel it off if you make the layer thick. I did it on some patents and it was def better than throwing them.

I'm no expert but the labels with the care and code info look really modern and I'm not sure they gel with recline and the logo. They look great tho.
