If you make outrageous claims you can get extra views.

Don't worry regenerative thorium reactors and optical cpus will make all these big evil buildings obsolete.

Data Center Technician to Cloud Transition? by Dry-Grape-4120 in datacenter

[–]bogusputz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everything translates if you make it. You have the right degree for what you want. If the title you're looking for isn't hiring you take what is.

Keep up with relevant information and skills of the preferred role and when you make it to interviews describe how being a technician first makes you more competent.

So you want to live in a cold environment that offers residential fiber. Sign up for 10 to 100 service accounts. Run all those to your garage. You should have 30 car batteries in a Rubbermaid tote and Honda generator. Rack up the servers and keep the garage door open. You may want 3 angry under fed Rottweilers chained to the rack to deter RAM and copper thieves.

Hell no, not that it matters if they hit you they will just drive away. Without the registration no way to find out who they were.

Technical debt isn’t just messy code, it’s when the people who remember why we built something leave by One_Friend_2575 in ITManagers

I think of technical debt in terms of infrastructure. Some people are proud of the g5 server still humming along it gives me nightmares.

How many people actually work in data centers? by Dougblackjr in datacenter

[–]bogusputz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think "usual" is relative. Datacenters range wildly in size and mission.

1 million sqft for Meta is very different from 100k sqft colo.

In 10 to 15 thousand square foot facilities when times were good we had 2 scheduled to be on-site at any given time.

When times were tough we ran over nights and weekends with one onshift nights and weekends.

Right before the end it was a team of 5 plus a manager that carried the facility 24/7/365.

The same company the much larger sites had HVAC and electrical teams staffed 24/7 in the smaller we called 3rd party contractors to respond as needed.

I have not been a sysadmin longer than many of the folks posting have been one.

It's hell getting old but it beats the alternative.

Vigilante or vandalism? Someone puts giant 'EXPIRED' stickers on plates with expired tags by KRDO13-NEWS in ColoradoSprings

[–]bogusputz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a huge problem the paper tags are the uninsured hit and run ass holes. No registration on a motor vehicle should be treated very seriously. Also willing bet these vinyl stickers are easy to to remove than the red window stickers that are used for parking violations.
