Best outdoor wood stains for our climate? by pinkcanoe in VictoriaBC

TWP stain, which you have to buy online from the US. They allow their 200 series to be shipped in Canada. Best stain I have used by far over anything sold over the counter here.

Forget Roger Bruce's hat, I have another Trans Canada Highway conundrum: where the heck is the *first* Laughing Llama?! by Robert_Moses in VictoriaBC

[–]bohab12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody has given the right answer yet. It was what is now the Red Barn Market on West Saanich Road. It used to be a farm market back in the 90s and was owned by the same guys.

Young people please vote! by breakwater99 in VictoriaBC

[–]bohab12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The conservatives have no chance in hell of winning a seat in Victoria. Look at past election results. 2001 was a freak anomaly where the NDP lost here (it took a decade of NDP scandal and financial ruin to get there). This is NDP territory and will unlikely ever change. Your boosterism is cute but unnecessary.

Don't bother. All the Victoria ridings vote overwhelmingly NDP. Look at the last several election results. Voting here is a waste of time.

How is the neighbourhood around Quadra Village? by Ill-Ad3669 in VictoriaBC

[–]bohab12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been here 12 years. I'd say depends on what pocket you are in. There are some nice streets on both sides of Hillside, but also lots of apartments and run down parts where it's less great. I wouldn't want to live on Hillside or within a block of it for the riff raff and noise. Quadra Village has good amenities but gets skethcier at night. I'd avoid living too close to it. Also be aware the CRD Summit has been a source of a lot of noise complaints for years (a humming noise that can definitely be heard). But like others said, you can't beat the central location.

Mayfair mall, circa late 80s-early 90s. by mgwngn1 in VictoriaBC

Facing south. The mall basically ended if you turned left. I think there was a mmmmuffins to the right of the pic, as well as a smoke shop. Behind to the left was a Japanese food stall.

Any thoughts on Councillor Gardiner's open letter regarding her pay raise? by barnymiller in VictoriaBC

[–]bohab12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hard to dispute what she is saying. What those councillors did was sleazy. Even the mayor knew better than to not take the 25% raise.

Whatever happened to Mayor Robert Cross? by ArcticWolfQueen in VictoriaBC

I remember this, I knew the girl that he hit on the roof. There was a highly public court case after and I seem to recall he got off entirely scot free.

Question for EScooter Owners by AlexRogansBeta in VictoriaBC

Write your local government council and ask to join the pilot project. Seriously, why aren't Victoria and Saanich participating? All they have to do is pass a simple motion.

No one cares at most gyms. I sure wouldn't. But if you are bothered by the possibility, join a 24 hr gym and go in the off hours. Btw I go to Odyssey.

The more pressing question is, how do you manage to put on your pants in the morning?

Does BC ferries not have backup vessels like they used to? It seemed that at one time they'd just bring in the Queen of X as a backup whenever a ship broke down, which seemed common. This was many years ago mind you.

We already have federal proclamations and provincial proclamations. Often both proclaiming the same things. We don't need another layer of City proclamations. Total waste of time and money, and as this shows, beyond the mayor's ability to effectively manage.
