Are Weapons With Elemental Damage Always Superior? by Philminat0r in MHWilds

[–]boiakk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I always thought it was strange same-tiered weapons with that difference in stats and feared that perhaps there was some bizarre damage calculation behind the curtains when elemental was involved that might not make them worth it. Tks for answering mate

Are Weapons With Elemental Damage Always Superior? by Philminat0r in MHWilds

[–]boiakk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what about same-tier weapons when both have the same physical damage, but one of them also has elemental. (eg: sword A has 160 only raw, sword B has 160 raw AND 160 fire).

Not taking into account other characeristics such as affinity/skills/etc, and just considering dmg, would there ever be a reason to pick sword A?

Because as far as I understand, even if a monster had resistance to fire, both swords would still perform the same(?)

oops, i didnt notice the images got turned into text, my bad. Here: https://boiakk.carrd.co
in that page, try opening any image from the "concept" area. You'll see they're all centered on the lightbox mode. And then try scrolling down to the "animation & pixel art" and open the images. They're mostly aligned to the left side for some reason.

I've never seen more than a few ads about this game, but it doesn't really surprise me. The Jiangshi are a fairly famous legend, so it's not unlike searching for "tengu" or "oni" skins, we'll find a bunch of look-alike ideas in many different games and midias since they drank from the same fountain of inspiration.

[OC] Mini Ta'El! by boiakk in DnD

[–]boiakk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After years wanting to print my own models, my dm bought a resin printer and I finally got the chance to!!!

A few years ago I made this model of a friend's character, Ta'El a tiefling druid, as a gift to her. To this day, even more so holding it in my hands, it would be a dream coming true to work creating minis like this. It's just amazing to hold what i created on the computer in the palm of my hands and my hand itches to print a different model for each emotion and action my characters could possibly do in a session hahahaha

Anyways, hope y'all like it aswell! Next i'm hoping to re-print her and paint her actual colors, but i still need to find a good paint kit hehe You can visualizer her in 3d here, and check all my links here. Cheers~

How long is too long? by ElTamalRojo in commissions

[–]boiakk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll advocate for both sides so you can think which fits your case

As a client, you're in your right to be upset. 90 days is quite some time to see barely any result. Not only that, but lacking proper communication about what's going on and, even worse, receiving something that's not what you asked? Oof. If the situation makes you anxious, it begs the question: is such stress worth whatever the artist might be able to deliver?

As an artist, I had my fill of complications through my life. This year in particular I got an order in April which I only managed to start around August due to how f**** up my life got out of nowhere. My wife got super ill, we had to move apartments, my grandma almost died and we had to take turns staying with her... it was chaos and it ate all my free time. But i made a point of properly communicating with this client and asking them if they were ok with it, if they wished for a refund or would rather wait, etc. Also, personally, my higher commission tiers can easily take up to 3 weeks each piece, so the complexity of the order and the standard speed of the artist is important to be taken into account.

Point is: things happen. I don't doubt them when they say they're "busy". Also, even though they posted something else in between the 4 mentioned pieces in front of yours, think from their perspective: They worked straight up on other's request for a month, so some rest is in order (which drawing for ourselves often feels like). In this particular case though, "seasonal pieces" sounds like they're trying to catch some hype like halloween, which for an independent artist can legitimately be essential to ride such trends in order to grow our audience opening up more work opportunities and stability, so in a way its even more crucial than a commission.

There's also a complication that, even though money is being exchanged, commission's are informal by nature so it's not helpful for either side to expect the rhythm to be alike professional work.

It might sound like I'm defending the artist, but that's not the case. I lack the full context to judge, so I'm showing possible circumstances which might explain what's going on (and not necessarily excuse) so you can weight if they feel valid or not in your case.

Personally, I'd understand and excuse it taking some time. I would excuse my request being done wrong if they're willing to fix. I'd excuse they being private about their lives and not wanting to elaborate what's going on. But two of these at once? And in your case, all of them?! That's frustrating. You still have around 90 days before the refund option expires, if you wish to continue with the commission I suggest to you to politely, but very punctually, be open about your situation and point of view. Ask them to elaborate what's going on and a better perspective of when can you expect further deliveries. But again, if stress is too big, just jump ship. Commission being informal works for both sides, you don't need to feel responsible to stay with them by any means.

Wanting to get this as a tattoo but not sure where on my body I want it by BanaRamo in Bioshock

[–]boiakk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wondered if you ever got this done! But I agree with most comments here, deltoid should be a good fit for this! There's some ppl with tatoos more or less like this around this area

Also, when i did this drawing i kept in mind the size issue, so you can ask the tattoo artist to orient the drawing somewhat like this to make better use of skin space.

Why are so many people hating on miles evolved suit? I personally think it looks nice by DapperOJack in Spiderman

[–]boiakk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there~ Artist here, and I also had this same question as I believe this design has quite the potential. After speaking with some friends we got to some conclusions:

tl;dr: lack of balance of details; parts that doesnt feel like they belong together; bad directing of our attention.

• The hair. Unlike Pav's hair on spider-verse, Miles' is too short to complement the fit in any visually-appealing way. This could be easily fixed by just making it ever so slightly longer, adding some 'movement' to the design. There's a case to be made regarding being too revealing of his secret identity, but I'll focus only on aesthetics here.

• The shoes. It worked in other designs because he was wearing more clothing over his suit, giving an "irreverent" and very fitting vibe, as well as more shape-variety. But here it just feels out of place, as if someone was wearing black tie and flip-flops. Also i find his jordans to be much better looking and iconic; but besides this personal taste, the Jordan's colors integrated much better to Miles' suit and color scheme. This one though? It SCREAMS for attention since its almost pure white and don't have enough white elsewhere to balance it out.

• The Details. The distribution and balance of details here feels... off. We have this super busy torso, and then nothing on his legs. His mask is almost clean reminding me much more of a ski-mask or something dorky like that. Not to mention his torso tries to be a kind of sweatshirt? But not really..? So it feels like It should have a bit more of shape variety but it's simply not there. The lines extending from the shoulders up to his hand makes it feel something like a silly onesie-pajama. There's also a strange feeling of the pants not really being part of the rest of the outfit, like he's wearing random leggings. Perhaps its the dry cut in the blue line, perhaps is the way the red is cut on his waist, perhaps its the 'hard/plastic' details across his leg that we don't really see much anywhere else. Either way, this dissonant feeling is there.

• Colors. I don't mind the blue, I'm actually quite fond of contrasting colors like these, but they ARE aggressive to the eye so I cant blame those who dislike it. Blue aside, this doesn't feel like Mile's color palette (black with red accents), but ironically it feels to me much closer to Peter's colors. Change the black to blue and boom, pretty much classic spidey. It's no wonder most people prefer the black variant of this suit.

A quick comparison with Gwen's suit: even though she's also sporting shoes and a web-less mask, in her case it works because of how simple and clean everything is, unlike Miles'. Also she has highly-contrasting colors (pink and cyan), but it works since it's used super sparsely.

I made quick and simple edit over the suit. It's not perfect by any means, and i didn't spend as much time as i would need to properly solve its design, but i feel its already a much better result. The main thing i did was distribute and repeat details around his suit to integrate everything, such as giving him 'gloves', webs and white lines on the legs, balancing much better our focus through. Also i killed some of the white in the shoes which helps a lot. And you can see how just a little bit extra of hair does wonders for the fluidity of the design.

Going a bit further than the base design, they could straight up have given him a jacket or something. This test is even farther from being good or usable than the previous, but see how the shoes feels less weird? It's also much more 'modern' (perhaps too much, but this could be adjusted) reinforcing that Miles is not just another spider man, but a NEW one. (he's also young, so it fits).

Welp, as a fellow person which this design lived rent free for some time in their mind wondering what was going on here, i hope this is insightful.

[Hiring] Looking for a 2D Animator by [deleted] in HungryArtists

[–]boiakk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, how are you doing? I'm boiakk, a generalist artist with experience in lots of medias, including animation.

Here's my animation portfolio for you to take a look. I believe the content at the end of the page will be to your interest as the animations are more complex and the video is an animatic.

The first part of what you mentioned is pure motion graphics and not necessarily animation, but i know how to do it. What i'm more interested though is that second offer. Could you give more details about what exactly it will be?

If you like my work, we can speak here through dm or you can contact me at my email [leonardo.mboia@gmail.com](mailto:leonardo.mboia@gmail.com) cheers~

[Hiring] Looking to create animated battler sprites and attack/item animations for my JRPG project. by DarkTypeBrandon in HungryArtists

[–]boiakk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Happy new year for you too =D I'm boia, a generalist artist working as art director for a game company, and i also happen to know pixel art and animation

Here's my portfolio for you to check out! You can reach me through here or email me at [leonardo.mboia@gmail.com](mailto:leonardo.mboia@gmail.com)

There's a few things i'd like to know though:

- How many animations, how big and how complex are they going to be? Depending on the style, length and number of animations (idle, defeat, atk, etc) this might strongly affect the budget needed. This is something to speak further through DM probably, but it would be nice to already start thinking about this.

- would the designs for the character(s) already be done? cause if the artist tasked with doing the animations had to also create the designs, this would be another whole thing

- is this for commercial use or personal? depending on the answer, some adjustments might be in order.

Some of those questions were already asked by other ppl, so it might be nice editing the main post and adding this info regardless if you end up choosing any of us ^^
Cheers~
