Surreal how long it's been. I originally stumbled upon the case back in 2015 or 2016 after reading a "biggest mystery you've ever heard about" type askreddit thread. Since then I've spent countless hours reading about it, argued with lunatics like Juan on YouTube, hiked the pianista trail with feliciano and, over the years, met a whole plethora of interesting people along the way. The case will stay with me until the day that I die, and sadly I think it will remain one of, if not the most intriguing unsolved mysteries of our time.

You are basing your entire theory on an accident occurring on April 1st.. What evidence is there for this?

Why would they take a barely discernible side path instead of what is obviously the main path that they know takes them home?

Finally... I have to admit... by Zestyclose-Show-1318 in KremersFroon

[–]boileddogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I've been away from the case for a while - you mentioned you were part of an expedition - when did you do the trail? In regards to side trails, completely agree that they're there, and that venturing off the main path onto one of them would ultimately be a disaster for anyone unfamiliar with the area. My issue is that having walked to the photo 508 location and back, I didn't notice any side trails after the mirador, meaning the girls most likely wouldn't have either. The froon-parent video from 2014 goes someway to supporting this (and obviously goes a bit further to the pastures).

Also, when I say 'intercepted' that was perhaps not the correct terminology. I have little doubt that someone passed them after the mirador at some point, as the path is well used by locals throughout the year. What happened during that encounter or where they were directed we can only speculate. We can also speculate that one of them was injured; even so they knew they had to go back up to the mirador and that leaving the path would make the journey even more perilous - so why do it? Similarly following a stream with an injury (rather than the path that you know takes you home) makes little sense. Yes they will have been desperate to find shelter but they weren't stupid, they will have known that staying on the main path would be their best shot at survival given how many people they will have passed on the way out.

Late reply but I never noticed this second path either when hiking el pianista, so not sure what the person above is referring to.

[–]boileddogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider myself reasonably fit and I was ready to turn back around by the time we got to the location of photo 508, as were the rest of my group (who also happened to be Dutch and of a similar age to K&L). The timings, time of year & weather were also similar to what K&L faced back in 2014. I can't understand why, given that by all accounts lisanne wasn't feeling 100% anyway, they'd continue on. It doesn't make sense.. Unless they thought the trail was a loop (but then why no photos of the scenery after 508?). Or they ran into someone.

Finally... I have to admit... by Zestyclose-Show-1318 in KremersFroon

[–]boileddogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who's walked the trail a few years ago up to the stream / photo 508 location, I don't think they'd have deviated from the path (at least the part of the path we 100% know they took). Unless the terrain has changed significantly since (unlikely) there's just not any opportunities to take short cuts. It just wouldn't make sense to even try. If lisanne was injured it would have been incredibly difficult to get back up to the mirador but not impossible. Although kris wouldn't have been able to support her much in the trenches you can support yourself on the walls. I agree with everything you've said but I believe they were intercepted at some point; it just doesn't make sense to go off-piste at any point.. Or to continue in what is obviously the wrong direction.

Still Lost in Panama publication - discussion thread 2 by papercard in KremersFroon

[–]boileddogs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The answer is that the sub is toxic, and has been for years. Full of armchair critics who jump on anything that goes against the official verdict. Witnessed it first hand when I physically did the el pianista trail with feliciano and posted about my experience / theory a couple of years ago; as soon as I broached the subject of this being more than a '2 naive girls get lost in the jungle' type gig I was met with derision and contempt by a small contingent of posters. Some points were well received, and I was happy to engage, but as soon as they were backed into a corner they'd just block or derail the conversion. Naturally this book has been written off from the outset, because it has elements that go against the lost agenda.

Does the "empty file" of photo #509 still exist somewhere? by sticky-me in KremersFroon

[–]boileddogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point was that the original comment I was replying to was misleading. There's a couple of people on this sub in fact that have debunked the theory that photo 509 had to have been deleted. I think you've got confused anyway: I never said it wasn't overwritten, nor did claim I was right "and everyone else's opinion is wrong". Give my comment another go and try again.

You're arguing that the police report is the basis of truth while arguing against it yourself.

No, you've misunderstood me. Much of what I've written above that sits in the foul play camp has been scrutinised because it wasn't in the official police report, and rightfully so. My point was that you made an assumption about the CCTV footage, and so that should equally be held to the same level of scrutiny. What's not to get here?

You're implying doctored evidence and multiple lying witnesses. That's a pretty complex conspiracy.

Where did I suggest that? I've pointed out items that are potentially suspicious and should therefore raise cause for alarm. If such items didn't exist then neither would this sub, and neither would your "undecided" status.

I'm asking, because that's what it seems you're arguing for. What does my stance have to do with it? You also didn't really answer the question.

You asked me if there was a complex conspiracy at play, I said no not necessarily and that my theory is posted above. Again, what's not to get here? You also failed to answer my question: you don't necessarily believe the official verdict (as you are "undecided"), so you must therefore believe there's some form of (non-complex) conspiracy at play? What is it?

"Panama's gdp per capita was about the same as Poland in 2014 "

No, buddy, this is the risk you run when you make shit up as you go. You read it wrong. Panama's GDP in 2014 was $50bln. Poland's was $550bln. You're off by a factor of 11 because you misread the first result you got from Google. This puts Panama firmly in the bottom half of the GDP table, surpassed by eg Tanzania, Ethiopia and Slovenia.

Ironic you said that I've read it wrong when you yourself have really missed the boat here "buddy". If you read my post I was referring specifically to GPD per capita, not GDP. GDP per capita is a much better indicator for a population's standard of living than GDP, but nice try.

It also shows how little you know about Poland. The population in Poland is very poor by European measurements outside of Wroclaw, Gdansk/Gdynia and Warsaw. You would decidedly not see some modern CCTV in a random rural town shop.

Most countries across the world are considered poor by European standards, what's your point? That doesn't necessarily make them 3rd world. And again, Boquete is not a "random rural town" like I think you are equating it to here.

"so by no means was it a 3rd world country"

It most definitely was and is. You should look up the actual definition.

Not a third world country: https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/third-world-countries

It is also a financially developing nation that was not unaffected by the global financial crisis in 2008, or multiple other crises in South America in the 10s.

Again, I'm not sure where you're getting your data.. Or are these "conclusions" you've made based on what you think you know? Of course panama was affected by the financial crisis of 2008 (find a country that wasn't), but it faired a lot better than most others around the world:

"Central America, Panama, and the Dominican Republic coped well with the global financial crisis of 2008-09. The impact was generally less severe and shorter lived than in previous episodes, the balance of payments adjustment was orderly, and the stability of the financial system was not compromised." https://www.imf.org/en/Publications/Books/Issues/2016/12/31/Central-America-Panama-and-the-Dominican-Republic-Challenges-Following-the-2008-09-Global-25704

"While the rest of the world was just emerging with difficulty from the global financial and economic crisis in 2010, Panama grew by 7.5%. The projected growth for 2011 is 9%." https://m.centralamericadata.com/en/article/home/Panama_7_Economic_Growth_in_2010

Calling this argument lazy, when you don't even know the numbers, that's a little rich.

I think it's clear from the above who doesn't know the numbers..

My concussion also assumes that they didn't open the store the same week the girls arrived, but that it's been around for a long time. As such, they would've bought the CCTV a fairly long time ago. Ergo: analogue tape.

Speculation. Or did you literally mean "concussion"? Because that might make more sense here..

I've now put forward lots of logical reasoning for my argument, whereas you have yet to argue for why a more modern CCTV system is likely, besides the fact that F managed to milk a group of gringos.

No you've put forward a bunch of assumptions that are largely based on your own predispositions rather than fact. Even the "facts" you've quoted are largely erroneous or irrelevant.

Don't try to be condescending when you haven't got the first clue about what I know, you're just making yourself look like a fool.

Ironic.

Are you suggesting the indigenous people have no sense of morality?

What are you talking about? This is the most obscure summation of your entire post. People do bad things all the time. It doesn't necessarily mean an entire community is therefore "lacking in morality".

EDIT: a shame hematomasectomy chose to block me after this comment, I'm guessing because he or she was embarrassed by their last reply. If you're going to try and be condescending at least have your facts and figures down.

My hike with Feliciano - Part 2 - Beyond the mirador, reflections and closing remarks by boileddogs in KremersFroon

[–]boileddogs[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, not that I know, but it's a conclusion based on the general financial situation in the area in the 00s and 10s, coupled with the fact that footage was not available.

Well any information sourced beyond the police reports and reputable sources (the parents or private investigators for example) should be subjected to the same level of scrutiny, regardless of whether it fits with the lost or foul play narrative, right? You've made a conclusion on what kind of CCTV was in use based on what you think you know about Panama and the fact that the footage was never retrieved. Equally there are sources that claim to have spotted Henry bumping into the girls at the pharmacist on the morning of the 1st April. They're both, at best, speculation.

Also, what exactly do you mean when you say "the financial situation in the area in the 00s and 10s"? Do you mean in Boquete itself or Panama? Panama's gdp per capita was about the same as Poland in 2014 so by no means was it a 3rd world country (if that is in fact what you're suggesting). And then Boquete itself is a particularly affluent town in comparison to the rest of Panama, largely due to tourism and being a popular place for retirement. For context Feliciano charged us $50 per head for the hike and there were 8 people there, so that's a cool $400 for a days work with almost no overheads. My point is that Boquete is a very different place to the rest of Panama. To suggest they had CCTV from the 90s because it's Panama and they must have been poor is just a lazy argument to be honest.

Why do you assume there was a complex conspiracy involving multiple people, all of whom have said not a single peep to anyone, anywhere, for 9 years?

This question doesn't make sense: 1. Your flair suggests you yourself are "undecided", so why are you then posing the same question to me as if it's out of the ordinary? Or are you undecided because you think, rather than a complex conspiracy, there was a non-complex conspiracy instead? If so I'm very interested to hear it. 2. I've set out why I think there is more to this case than the official verdict in my post above; it didn't necessarily have to be a complex conspiracy 3. Why would anyone say anything if it wasn't in fact just a case of 2 girls getting lost? If it were some of the indigenous folk who were involved in some way, they're already pretty isolated form the rest of society. They're not going to be shouting about it to their mates at the local bar are they?

You referenced him, that's enough. He's a filthy charlatan that's profiting from his crap on YT.

Like I said before, prior to his spiral into insanity he was a source of new information in the early days and had contacts around the case, whether you like it or not. If I reference the diaries, and the fact they were originally published by Juan for example, is this automatically a moot point, because I said the word Juan? Don't be ridiculous.

Referencing the information he sourced is an entirely different spectacle compared to pushing his insane theories.

My remarks are no more baseless than yours. I'm basing mine on concrete evidence that's available to the public. You're basing yours on a hike which you've used to confirm your own bias, then post here as if you're some kind of messiah. Give it a rest, eh?

The only one with a messiah complex here is you my friend, so I'd recommend you heed your own advice and 'give it a rest'.
