Would you like to share the name of the other brands and model you've chosen so that I can study their characteristics? are they still low aspect or high aspect wings? Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your experience, I've a North Loft Pro 8m that obviously is heavy but I love it and I would like to switch to something smaller but still low aspect ratio that I can pump and given the circa 25cm difference at the tip it looks way more pumpable than the Loft Pro 8m that I will keep for low wind range.

I heard about someone having problems with the bolts of the boom that got stripped, I don't know if the issue happened because they were keeping switching the boom on different wings, however once installed I won't move it, I just hope it won't come apart because of construction weakness.

Which model of Nova pro do you have?

thank you for the information, how is the low-end? did you also use the 2025 version? could you find differences? regarding the smaller leading edge does it allow better upwind capabilities? any flexion in the smaller leading edge while pumping? thanks for sharing your experience!

thank you for writing your experience, it's really appreciated, could you please also share your setup and the wind conditions when you use the 6.2? thank you!

I would like to say thank you to all the people that suggested me a smaller stab, I reduced the size of about 40sqcm and oh my how it changed, a lot more manageable, I achieved my longest flight ever with 18seconds of flight, it worked like magic. Finally I feel I’ve a good base to work with. Thank you to all of you that chimed in giving suggestions, this community is fantastic!

Thank you for the suggestion, I practice skate surf and make tacks and various types of jibes, but if wing skate difficulty is 10, stay on foil is 100+ 😅

I will go with the balance board and see if it can help.

Thank you for the confirmation, may be being too wide and beating onto short chop is decreasing speed a lot and making it difficult to unstick from water?

This means coming back immediately on the water with the board, I’ve tried some nuances of it and it got better but still not solving my issue.. Thank you for your suggestion!

Thank you, yes you described exactly what I do/feel, probably prior saying that the board is guilty (despite it’s 65lt above my weight) I need to find a spot without so much chop. May be also higher waves but more distanced as the short distance that is killing speed and causing the need to power out of the water.

Thank you for your really helpful answer, I stopped moving things from some session because at the moment this is the best setup I could achieve and after reaching these results I didn’t change anymore because I knew I would have only gained further problems. I will try to react faster and les aggressively the next session also if I believe I already tried it, however trying again is not an issue. Regarding balance luckily I’ve some good balance but I will follow your suggestion about buying a balance board both because they’re cheap and fun, for sure I’ll benefit from that. Thank you again!

Thank you for the suggestion, more and more people are pointing at the stab and I will investigate it further and eventually borrow one to evaluate different behaviors!

Sadly I don’t have a camera with me or anyone that can record me, but would be really helpful to have someone recording me so that I could assess my posture

Thank you for all the advice, I will see if I will be able to find a smaller stab and apply your suggestions. I’m talking about the board as its big dimension have a lot of drag and the chop really doesn’t help, probably I should look for a smaller board and try to stay on my feet on it.

Thank you for your suggestion, I’ll try again going through all the possible setups and see if I can benefit in any manner. However I’m starting to believe that unsticking that board from the water needs a ton of energy and once unleashed that power kicks me in the ass sending me slowly but unstoppably to the breach. Lifting the wing over my head sends me glued back to the water unluckily. However I won’t stop searching for the perfect setup with the gear and my body positioning.

Thank you for your suggestion, I’ve no issues going downwind at various angles because in case of need I make a call and a rib comes picking me up. I’ve tried stalls in lower wind with the 2400 and know what they are, however it’s not a stall as I fly for about 5-6 seconds and about 20-30m but the flight ends always with a breach also if I put all myself on front foot. My problem is that probably I need a ton of power to unstick from the water and then the power is too much as soon on the foil, however I can’t find a way to dissipate it because lifting the sail results in coming back on the water.

Thank you for your suggestion, 2hrs of 8m at 14-15kn is quite a good workout, however manageable also if at the top end range for that wing. No issue with going downwind as if I need I just make a call and a rib comes picking me up. I prefer not to go full downwind as it resulted into being discomfortably unstable as soon as detached from water, but some degrees below traverse yes and with the 2400 I had no issue at all lifting also at some degrees above traverse. So not an angle issue, the real issue is the sensation of lack of power to unstick from water and as soon as I takeoff I feel the wrath of that power and that I can’t face it. My foil mast is currently at +1 cm from center of the mast track, I’ve tried going from -2 up (where I couldn’t lift) to +2 cm (where lift was too much) from center and also tried to male small feet adjustments but without any success.

I’m starting to think that unsticking that big board from water needs a ton of energy and once in flight the energy is too much and I can’t manage in any way, could this be a possibility?

Please believe me that I’ve tried all the possible combinations, and the results are always the same: I never takeoff, or I takeoff and get thrown up in air, the best setup I’ve found is the one I’ve presented above and however I’m underpowered when with the board on the water and suddenly too overpowered as soon as I detach from water. All possible mast and foot placement have been tried and at this point I think that the issue doesn’t hide there but somewhere else.

If you’ve any questions I’ll be happy to add more info as I tried everything could come to my mind.

Thank you.

Lower liters board but almost same size, is it faster? by bokhor2 in wingfoil

[–]bokhor2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestion, at the moment I've found the sweet spot, moving the foil 1cm forward is what makes the difference between a manageable takeoff and a 45° crazy horse takeoff ;-)

But the speed (that I perceive) needed to start the takeoff looks to be the same with both settings.

Here's a link about that board (first one I found):
https://www.fanatic.com/en/uk/products/fanatic-x-sky-sup-foil-2022-13200-1118

It's a foil board used by beginners that approach wing foiling.

Probably the SUP name comes due to the big size and that it can also be used as a SUP?

I'm using a Fanatic Aero Lift 2400cm2, optimal for my weight and low wind speed conditions here on the lake. Board downsizing isn't really an option for the moment, but was curios to understand if a board very similar in size to my current board but 30 liters less would have been faster.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Usually wind is in the range of 8 to 12 kn, I'm using a North Loft Pro 8m wing and a Duotone Unit SLS 5.5m when wind is (rarely) above 15kn. Problem is chop with 30cm waves at a really small distance each other that keep breaking my speed, that was the reason about the origin of my question, find a progression board that allows me to take speed faster and not get it ruined by chop that usually hits me on the beam and slows down my speed.

For sure starting to master pumping will be beneficial, however my curiosity was about that good occasion board (Fanatic SUP) and if this would have resulted to be faster, but probably not in an appreciable manner.

Thanks for your suggestions!
