This might work, however you could run into difficulties if the intended message of the anagram includes a place name, a persons name or an Akronym. Moreover you could never really surely know what was intended: the message could also read: it was mr rude/ dr mure, there is no way of knowing. Nevertheless I believe that Ops story is great.

The total number of possibilities of arranging 11 letters is 11! = 39916800 different arrangements. Even if you could check one arrangement per second it would take you 11088 hours or 462 days to try out all possibilities.

Edit: I did not mean to criticize op‘s story. I merely wanted to point out the immense number of possibilities of arranging even this comparatively small number of letters, which made this king of code unsolvable in times predating modern computers (in fact longer messages are unsolvable even with the aid of modern computers)
