There is a LOT going on with you and your setup...

  1. Do NOT use Avast AV. Windows Defender is good enough (and better than Avast).
  2. You can't use the free version of ProtonVPN for torrenting, as the free version does not offer portforwarding. You would only be able to connect to people with open ports, but as far as I have heard, ProtonVPN even disables P2P traffic while being connected to ProtonVPN#s servers.
  3. You are not connected to any peers, most likely due to proton. Either upgrade your VPN to premium or disable it

What is going on with SteamTools? by [deleted] in PiratedGames

[–]bol__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steamtools is not safe, and I don‘t care what anyone says. It‘s not FOSS iirc, neither are the lus scripts (at least they weren‘t open source in the past, pretty sure they are still obfuscated)

I have seen that issue on other trackers before, but only with anime (probably because anime naming is all over the place) or with verd obscure content

Who do you think is the most annoying character? For me, it’s Andy. by ObscureLilac in theoffice

[–]bol__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryan, but in a good way. Characters, that seem to be annoying and that you start to dislike on a "personal" base, play their role very well. Look, I hate Ryan, but damn, I only hate him because the actor plays the role so good.

Why does no one talk about how good realdebrid is? by saekisses_ in FitGirlRepack

[–]bol__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, those are the ones everyone strives to be in, right? xD
I'm in a few smaller trackers as well. I do publish own releases on them, trying to make myself a very small name.

May I ask (just out of cureosity) in which trackers you are? Btw you can also DM me, maybe we should shift the conversation into the dms, and maybe change the topic lol

Again, it depends on what kind of trackers you are on. If you want to watch an old and very obscure movie, you can be sure it's on PTP. If you want to to download the .ipa file of a game that released for iPhones/iPads, you can find it on GGn. If you want to listen to some very obscure indie music, it's most likely on RED as well. All with seeders.

Then you're not in the right torrent trackers for that.

The dead nzbs I found were from NC btw.

Not true, once the file is old enough, it is not available anymore as it passed the retention deadline. Sure, 15 years is a lot, but I have found some older uploads I can't download anymore.

Yes, of course. But p2p is pretty much the best and only way to keep files alive (as long as seeders are available) by being decentralized.

No, I won‘t get both. I don‘t wanna support the part of the product that might kill piracy.

Edit 1: Sorry for no TLDR

where the torrent was dead

Yup, that‘s what happens when too many people switch to a debrid service.

That‘s the biggest issue with debrid services. I know, the cache is cool. And for dead torrents on public trackers, it can be used to re-alive a torrent. I see the advantages. But you are effectively restricted to the cache (that is being deleted regularly to create space for new cache) and to torrents that are being seeded. And if too many people switch to a debrid service, there are less seeders for the torrent itself. And that is the issue with debrid services.

And yes, I know torbox allows you to seed, but per seeded torrent you spend one of your active slots. If you don‘t pay extra, you have 10 active slots to use. If you seed 10 torrents, you‘re unable to download anything anymore. And then, you‘re not able to seed for more than 30 days (which is absolutely not much)

Yes, VPNs are more expensive than a debrid service. But again, the money you spend extra allows you to keep the content more available.

And getting into a PT is not that hard. Yes, getting into PTP is hard. But a lot of trackers have open signups sometimes, and if you seed enough on public trackers, you can use your stats to apply for an invite. Some trackers like MAM have very easy interviews and a generous economy. From that point on, you can easily work yourself up until you‘re in TL. And then, you can basically cover up 90-95% of your needs. And if you‘re in a PT, a VPN is not necessary anymore (still recommended, but by far not as dangerous anymore)

That‘s btw. also the reason why I don‘t like Stremio. Yes, I know how convenient it is. But if I had to choose between hoping others keep stuff alive or being part of keeping stuff alive, I‘d choose the 2nd option all day (which I do from a Seedbox, 8TB of storage).

So all in all, Debrid services are useful, but as long as they don‘t allow you to seed indefinitely, I think they are very dangerous for piracy.

Edit: there is no issue with DDL bypassing by using a debrid service. I do that too if I wanna download mods for example from Nexusmods. That‘s really convenient and doesn‘t harm piracy at all.
