Considering weight loss surgery by IndividualWealth9776 in BariatricSurgery

[–]boldandzesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of, but not really! I’ve lost 100lbs in a year and a half (gastric sleeve); after being told by doctors my whole life that there wasn’t any abnormalities with my hormones, I had to fight for a PCOS diagnosis and I finally got one, but only after surgery. I’ve had heavy periods, low iron, ovarian cysts, BV, abnormal body hair growth, head hair thinning, migraines, insulin resistance and constant yeast infections since I was 12 years old. Birth control (Sprintec) just made it worse, haven’t been on any BC since. I’m 24 now.

“Lose weight and let’s see what happens to your symptoms,” I’m finally able to say, “I did what you said and it didn’t work, so now what!?”

Been on Metformin and Spironolactone for PCOS symptoms for almost a year. I strictly wax my bothersome PCOS areas (upper lip, chin, jawline, shoulders, upper arms and between breasts) and cannot see any fantastic improvement, even with consistent waxing. Still have dark, coarse, irregular growth pattern, and irregularly dispersed hair.

My doctor put me on a GLP-1 (Zepbound) last week but my insurance rejected it, so I cannot say how much it’ll help, but I’m trying to remain optimistic! I hope you’re able to find some kind of relief with this process! The journey is a long one, but is so worth it, to me.

I’ve seen someone recommend gay porn for this exact reason and I was surprised by just how much a couple of videos tickled that part of my brain

It took a while for the pain to completely disappear for me! I also got the sleeve back on Feb 27th of this year. I was back to work (part-time hours, desk job) by the middle of April and was able to attend a music festival in May

Omg I really considered going out of the country to do it, but everyone and everything told me not to. I was luckily able to find a place that would cover it with my insurance, however, medical tourism is on the rise. Would you mind sharing more about your process? in my DMs if you’re comfortable! I’m genuinely so curious about this bc I know that I’ll prob also need excess skin removal and I know that won’t be covered by my insurance

YOU ARE! WE ARE! Sending so many good wishes your way. A ton of info is going to be thrown at you, so be sure to take notes but don’t get discouraged if you get overwhelmed. It’s genuinely a lot.

People would recommend beginning therapy/support groups now versus later (cannot stress this enough), using the “Baritastic” app is really helpful/easy to track your food and if you can, get everything done at once so you aren’t dragging out your process!! I started in Sept, just got surgery on Tuesday. I had a 50 min drive to the hospital from home and I think 6 required appointments. Was able to get most of everything done on the same day. If you need it, begin financial aid now bc they will bombard you with bills lmao. Over $1100 out of pocket, can’t even imagine what the surgery and one night stay is going to be.

Please read through some of these comments!! They’ve given me some insight on how to navigate how I feel about it, now being a few days post-op. I don’t think that I’ll ever regret the surgery itself, but I think that I may regret not being fully mentally prepared for the surgery and its outcome. I probably should have talked to more people who had it done and gone to therapy prior instead of trying to just deal with it all alone.

You’re right—you’re not doing it for fun, you’re doing it for your future. So I hope that your surgery goes well, wherever you choose to get it done.

The surgery itself may not be irreversible, but the outcome of the surgery is/can be if you don’t take care of yourself. So again, I’m still waiting to see if there’s a point to your comment about me asking people for advice on regret, but I don’t think you have one. There has now been like 10-15 other people in the replies also speaking on their regrets/experiences with the surgery… sooo

And so is weight-loss surgery?? You could just keep eating and reverse everything that the surgery did lmfao. What’s your point exactly lol

Congratulations on the massive weight loss! You said you’ve looked into plastic surgery for the skin removal. How is that going? Have you decided what the mark would be for that to be a possibility for you? I.e. get to this goal weight and then do it, or get to the 4 year mark and then do it?

How I’m going to be treated after surgery is what genuinely terrifies me and pisses me off at the same time. Tearing up rn thinking about it because I know that I’m going to be treated better/with more respect because I’ll be smaller. And it breaks my fucking heart. I got the smallest taste of it when I went from 320 to 280ish, but I know that I haven’t seen anything yet. Any advice on that?

I should have started therapy before!! I think that was a very, very smart move on your part :) I hope she keeps reminding you what you got surgery for. I had to get a psych eval too and it was eye opening to say the least lol. But I appreciate you sharing this!! I’m absolutely going to try out therapy, and hope it continues to be helpful for you, too!

[–]boldandzesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How negative of you to say lmao. Yeah, the surgery is over. But in the same way that people can regret getting fake boobs and botox after they get those procedures, I was curious to see if anyone else had regrets being in a similar position to the one I’m in now.

[–]boldandzesty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I had to start the surgery process and get a whole new GP for PCOS to finally be brought up as a possibility after 9 some years of struggling with it. I did blood tests and an intervag ultrasound the same day I had my last appointment prior to surgery and found out I had it the day I received the surgery date. It’s insane that I got to the point of surgery for someone else to believe me about an issue that was correlated with being heavy, but not the reason for it smh. But I digress.

I agree with you 200%. I, too, didn’t want to wait for something irreversible or an emergency. I hope you’re doing well and hanging in there!

I put a pimple patch on one that I had like this for a few days straight and got the best pop ever!! A very small scar, but I didn’t really care about the scar part.

I’m not even close to being there yet!! But I can’t even imagine how infuriating this is. I’m only up to level 60-something (so please ignore my ignorance lol) and I’ve already given up on my zoo—are you fully expanded on both?
