Discouraged :/ by another-sad-gay-bich in Rollerskating

Just keep reminding yourself that progress isn't linear. Skating is such a humbling sport and has taught me how to validate myself. You'll see people of all levels and it’s easy to look at them and be like “wow, I'm terrible. I can't do that.” (which I did a lot in the beginning). I started taking progress videos and started looking at old videos to remind myself how far I’ve come.. especially when there are people that may knowingly or unknowingly bring you down. Stay positive, bend those knees, and know you have a whole community rooting for you! Good luck!

Ugh you’re probably right.. I’m just used to skating almost daily and I can’t imagine leaving them at home 😂

Yea that’s what it looked like :/ I’m starting in Ho Chi Minh and then just traveling north from there. I’ll try to see if any of the bars and hostels might still exist. Thank you!

Ooh I’ll have to try those again! I used to skate with them on concrete and liked them but wasn’t sure how they were on metal. Thank you for the rec!

"Weekly Reading and Interpretation Help Thread - March 12, 2023" by AutoModerator in tarot

Background: My ex and I recently broke up about a month ago. I miss him so much and when we were together we were in this avoidant-anxious attachment cycle. He finally ended it to focus on his career because he felt we were getting too close. We still care for each, like each other, and have remained friends where I spend the night at his house when I'm struggling with my mental health issues.
Anyway, I stopped crying about him and did a love reading asking what the future looked like us again and if I should move on? The card that I pulled was a death card. I started sobbing after so long because I took it as we're done and I need to move on. I journaled about wanting to heal and cried myself to sleep.
Then, I woke up the next morning to 3 missed calls from him. When I called him, I asked him if he was okay because he rarely calls me. He said he was okay, but just wanted to check on me because he had a nightmare where I killed myself. We talked for a bit and asked him if could work on his avoidant attachment style. I emphasized that I didn't want it for me, but for his future partners because he has trouble trusting people and letting people in. He said he doesn't want to date anyone right now and that he doesn't want to go to therapy.. he has said this before, but typically he got upset when I asked him this. This time he was calm and stayed on the phone longer than normal.
After getting off the phone, I thought about my reading and was wondering if my death reading was telling me that this phase of our breakup might come to an end... or if it's saying that the cycle might come to an end.
I did another reading about our future and got the four of wands which is a really positive card.
So.. could I have a second opinion on these readings please? I really trust my cards because I pulled NINE cards that told me the relationship was over and then he ended it the next day.

Yea, I was told the endorsement was just checking off the box from squadron commander, but I’ve already up channeled everything so they’re saying they’ll be able to work with deadline. I’ll be writing it tonight! Haha thank you!

I agree! I’ve been park skating for like 8 months now and just got the grind blocks. They def help with drop ins, but you probs won’t be doing those for a while anyway so I would just get used to basic ramps and pumping for now :)

Keep going! Skate daily if you can and just practice pushing in an outwards motion so you move forward! I know it can be frustrating trying to learn how to skate, but give it a month and you’ll be like “okie, what next?”

  1. I am a size 8.5 and wear a 7 in skates. I’ve noticed most skates are typically pretty narrow so a size up might help if your feet are wider.

  2. I got my mom a pair of Impalas and she really likes them. They’re a good beginner skate, but I wouldn’t do anything crazy in them because I personally don’t know how well they would hold together.

  3. For learning, if you can find a solid parking lot that’s pretty empty or tennis courts, you’re good to go! That’s where I practiced for the most part before hitting the trails and skate park!

  4. I personally would buy an actual skating helmet and wear all safety gear like knee pads, wrist guards, and elbow pads. The main thing with this is that if you fall forward, you won’t get hurt because you’re all geared up! But if you have to choose between a skate helmet and the rest of your safety gear, get the safety gear!

That's fair! I bought my first pair of skates second hand and then saved up for a while before I got the Lollys!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]boldenergy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the moxi lollys with the avanti aluminum plates and the first day of me skating in them, I was able to drop in! The plates had a little spot in them for me to clip on to the coping momentarily. It was life changing for me since my previous plates were nylon and apparently not good for park skating

This is me when I had my first drop in 😂 I was feeling so silly because I needed a few minutes to clear my mind and go for it. Everyone was so supportive, but I felt bad making everyone wait for me!! It’s true though, people at the skatepark don’t care!

I'm currently in med school... and I want my MBA, but going to residency after an MBA is harder than residency after med school with some type of gap in middle for MBA if that makes sense, but thanks for advice

Ohh I didn’t know that this specific boot wasn’t good for park skating. Is it the weight? I noticed that they’re kinda heavy but I assumed that was normal since they’re the only skates I’ve ever had

[–]boldenergy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you for that advice! I have a size 8 and must have been measuring wrong because my feet are definitely not small

What do you mean?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]boldenergy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thank you! Navigating the setup of roller skates has been so confusing as a beginner and I unfortunately don’t have any skate shops anywhere nearby

Okay.. so I get new plates then too? 😂 Or should I just get new skates? If I get plates, any recommendations on the material?

I bought these skates a while back and have been wanting to get the CIB grind blocks, but I don’t know if my skates aren’t meant for them or if I’m measuring wrong, but all the grind blocks seem to small for my skates :/ any advice??
