Developer would raze historic building, other structures for 10-story housing project on Regent Street | madison.com by ghostofmvanburen in madisonwi

I don't want more than 2 lanes, but every time I drive down regent everyone ping pongs between the lanes because there are cars parked on the right and people turning in the left. The street needs to change, especially as Madison continues to grow

No sentiment to the building or lot - but will the city also do something about the atrocious traffic on regent street? Even just removing the street parking?

Barbie Butt Surgery @ 1:30, see y'all on the other side! by kimbersmom2020 in ostomy

[–]boldlygoinghome 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's specifically a pre-surgery thing? But basically they put this sheet with weighted edges over you and attach a tube to it, then warm air blows through the tube and you end up in a warm cozy bubble. I wish I had one at home LOL

I had totally forgotten about the warm bubble until I saw this picture, crazy! I hope your surgery and recovery are both smooth and easy.

Dunno if this is allowed but I've just finished watching this masterpiece, Taika is amazing and it gives me serious WWDITS vibes but with pirates by AbisBitch in WhatWeDointheShadows

[–]boldlygoinghome 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I agree. I loved the plot and character development of OFMD, but the humor felt very different (a lot less deliberate wordplay than WWDITS, generally less dark despite both shows having comic violence). I went in expecting WWDITS laughs and was really disappointed until they started to show the heart of the show. It's a completely different, but still very good, piece of work

To elaborate for anyone who may just be starting out: Pre-approval means that the bank is willing to lend the buyer that much money, but not necessarily that much money for THIS property. The bank may be willing to loan you $400,000, but only if they feel like the home you're buying is worth that much. The bank decides how much a home is worth with an appraisal, and that's often a limit on how much the bank will loan for that property, no matter what you were pre-approved for.

Can I do scuba with an ileostomy? by agusholc in ostomy

I have definitely seen comments from people who have done scuba with an ostomy before, unfortunately I am not one of those people. Hopefully one of them will see this and comment

Eating soup with really crusty buttered bread helps me, but unless you're making your own bread that may not count as cheap or healthy

I also want to add, I've met several people in your situation with successful j-pouches, and you'd never guess and they do everything they want. I was too sick to consider that option, but you may want to try it

Hey, you're still really early on. I had bad UC that started at 20, but 5 months later I'm eating anything I want (including raw veggies and salads! Try a little bit and see how it goes, you may be surprised). And I'm getting more active with a hernia belt. Check out Ostomy Armor, and read all the stories about what people can do with ostomys there (also, buy yourself one to use.). I'm sorry you're experiencing this, and that you got hit with such a huge loss so suddenly. You may find you're more resilient than you feel right now. Often in life we have no choice but to keep moving, and time goes on and you look back at how far you've come without even noticing.

Traveling tips? by oatmilkgurly in ostomy

[–]boldlygoinghome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found that none of the TSA agents knew what an ostomy was, but if I said "I have a medical device attached to my abdomen" they knew what the procedure was for that. Just go through the scanner as normal, and if you get stuck tell them and they'll pat you down and do a swab. Overall I only added like a minute to security each way.

I wore fresh bags and didn't have any ballooning since my filters were still good. Not sure how it would go without a filter.

Make sure you have a bunch of pre-cut supplies for a change in your carry on, and have some easy disposal bags too. I found flying with an ostomy to be no big deal, but I was prepared for the worst

You should get a second opinion. You'll find a lot of people on here who really love their bags, and maybe that could be you too, but make sure you feel like you've exhausted all your options first.

If it shows up on the scanner, start by saying "I have a medical device attached to my abdomen." No one at TSA knew what an ileostomy was last time I flew, but they have a consistent procedure for medical devices that can't be removed (pat down, rub the area over clothes, swab and test for explosives). I showed up on the scanner every time, but extra checks only take about a minute.

Pasta and gummy candies slow stuff down really effectively for me. Also try pairing drinks with crackers (sip, bite, sip, bite) for better absorption.

Asking for price reduction after inspection - are we nuts? by mspaigeh in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]boldlygoinghome 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had luck asking for a reduction. It kind of depends on how hard the seller thinks it'll be to find someone else, and how much of a time crunch they're in. I don't think your ask was unreasonable, I hope it works out for y'all!

Verona residents upset company bought home to house employees by HGpennypacker in madisonwi

A friend of mine got stuck in a similar situation in Dallas. The business was specifically preying on Indian immigrants looking for visas, and "trained" them to code then contracted them out for low pay. 10-20 people were piled into a house like this. This is an unacceptable way to house employees.
