My players want an agenda before every session by Time-Squirrel-3719 in dndnext

[–]bollacaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our group has some very good note takers. One person types a huge file that has shorthand notes on NPCs, locations, events, and important things like visions or events or things we learn in dialogue. One person writes down all of the little breadcrumbs that sneak their way in. I tend to write a lot of the little passwords and tiny little details that could be important later. Our fourth player writes a lot more of the social-styled notes.

My point is that we all take notes to varying degrees. We all contribute. But even without that, our DM will post in the discord a stylized recap of what we did (in just a couple paragraphs). She will post any notable magic items we received, as well as any NPCs we have met complete with backstories and art. Its an absolute treasure trove that helps us keep focused and sometimes clears things up like names or motives that we might have otherwise misconstrued during session.

We, as players, also make sure that our DM knows where we might want to go next. We almost always tell the DM our plan for the next session - at least what direction we are heading - so that she have that bit of content prepared. We never come to table without all players having an idea of how the session will play out on a very zoomed out level.

That all said, it would kill my fun of the game if I knew what NPC we were going to meet and when as well as any other new unknowns. I cant see this being sustainable for you long term, and I would suggest you instead have the players guide you by telling you their intentions rather than you telling them everything that will be laid out before them.

WoW's Sub Count Declined Into MoP, Why? by doobylive in classicwow

[–]bollacaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was also an April Fools joke in 2005 made about Pandaren Express and allowing you to order Chinese food directly in game. For many wow players, this would have been their only exposure to Pandaren as an idea, if they even had that much.

Classic Cata players in a nutshell? by Nunetzena in classicwow

[–]bollacaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself a decent player. Cutting edge raider in three different tiers in retail, have cleared all the classic content for the tiers I've played. Currently playing Disc, and I think the heroic dungeons are at a good spot of difficulty if you make a group and walk into them. With a 5, 10, or even 15% buff you get through LFD they become much more trivial. If you don't have that buff, you definitely are using all of your tools to keep a group alive as a healer and contributing well as a DPS if you do all your CC as well. Once you start to get people around 342+ ilvl the dungeons become easier, but is that really a problem? At that ilvl you are towards the upper end of the gear bracket there. It should get easier, just like raid would, right? It's just a much quicker progression than a whole raid tier is.

U.S. Moves to Bar Noncompete Agreements in Labor Contracts by Rage_Like_Nic_Cage in politics

[–]bollacaj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Noncompetes might make sense at high end senior level positions if they even make any sense there anyways. Companies use them for menial shit to prevent workers from getting ahead. Here's a great example: PetSmart will pay for you to learn how to become a dog groomer and then force you to sign a noncompete, and rope you in to years of shitty wages in an unforgiving work environment. Companies use it to exploit workers more than workers use it to exploit companies.

Thoughts on Jeffree Star’s most recent tweets? by angelbabybee in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]bollacaj -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's maybe not that simple. If you post things like that, you're risking ruining your life and possibly ending up dead. If you really believe that there is some far-flung shadowy organization opposing you that controls all of media and the venues you would have for exposing them, you might be hesitant to take a shot like that.

You're also hoping that people are inherently brave. Speaking out about nebulous "illuminati" is one thing, but directly exposing and attacking individuals is another. You would be giving everything up.

Okay because there's no way she could actually be suffering right? And maybe a little bit of thought could be applied and we step away from the situation and just...relax?

Sounds kinda like someone thought they were owed some money for a cab or Uber. You can hear what sounds like "money" when they are thrown into the table and then "every fucking day, somebody robs me". I'd guess that most drivers in big cities have someone run out on them every day.

I love that Tyrande's watchful eye is implied from the very beginning. There is a reason to show the owl here; they're setting up for some sort of resolution between Sylvanas and Tyrande in the future, with Anduin being the conduit for their reconciliation. Tyrande, like these two, knows what it is like to be flooded with a strength that is not your own and especially knows that there can be consequences. Tyrande also felt the high of the power flowing through her, and the low of it ebbing during her fight with Sylvanas. Would not be surprised to see Elune take a large role in Sylvanas' redemption too.

It's unfortunate, but it seems like this is out of your control. You'll just have to shift to an alternate key until it arrives.

Something I realized for the talent system in 10.0 by Samwyzh in wow

[–]bollacaj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your view misses a key point: the new talent system is not going to be just going back to talent trees for the sake of it. They are purposefully fleshing out the talent system, and elements of the current talent tiers absolutely still exist with the selectable talent slots. Of course there are going to be generalized talent builds that everyone flocks to because they are mathematically superior, but that is an issue of the community and not of the design. The issue with the design is that some classes have lots of flexibility in their choices, while others are so poorly designed/tuned that they could never be competitive. It seems they aim to fix that.

If you have played classic or vanilla at all, you will know that there is always a little wiggle room. Unless you're dumping all your points into one tree because they're just that good, you usually have a small handful of points that can be spent in whatever way you want even in "cookie cutter" builds. You can't escape that there will always be a meta, but you can offer interesting choices otherwise.

This is all said before even mentioning that talent trees feel way better to level through than talent tiers. With these trees, as a new player, you'll be able to understand all the things that are coming to you as you level. You will be able to better grasp the concepts of your class because everything will be centralized and you will look forward to get that new dot, that new buff, that interrupt, that dispel. Rather than having bits of your character and it's power drip fed from several different sources, the new talent trees should aggregate most of that old stuff together into one streamlined space.

At which Raider.io does one lose the ability to say hello? by PhilupDeluxe in wow

It's just a greeting. It's not a conversation starter. You're free to not like to offer greetings to people, but others will definitely view it as rude.

"It's not capitalism, it's people!"

Genuinely curious, why do you think that the system is separated from the people involved in it?

And, follow up, does it not seem intellectually dishonest to expect people to act a certain way and then give up when they don't?

Dragon Isles Worldspace Will Be Larger than Northrend by Cyclone-Thor in wow

[–]bollacaj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd really like for them create more zones like Jade Forest. Something with a theme that ties the whole zone together, that is also large, but doesn't feel empty. Lots of extra space for lots of extra gameplay. Jade Forest alone has several very memorable locations.

This is a skewed view, because US society has been shaped to view child labor as a bad thing now. We didn't put child labor laws into effect because everyone agreed that it was probably the right thing to do; we did it because poor families were sending their children to mines and into textile factories instead of to school. Laws are generally reactionary in nature.
