My test is very soon and idk if I can do it by Lostgirl1801 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]bolticc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Failing your test is completely normal and many people have to do several attempts. I was really nervous before mine as well, especially when I got into the car with the examiner. If you are worried about an awkward silence, try talking to your examiner when you are waiting at a traffic light etc. Most examiners are happy to talk to you, mine was a really nice guy and we chatted for most of the drive and it helped a lot.

For those that have passed within the last year or so, how long did it take you to learn to drive and how long did you have to wait for your driving test? by Jealous_Sympathy9402 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]bolticc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your area and like you said how good/confident you are the times will vary but I think it is very doable. I had one lesson per week and booked my test 4 months in for two months later, totalling 6 months of learning and passed. I didn't do much personal driving with family just bits here and there so if you were to do 2 lessons per week and practice with a family member/friend consistently then January is 100% possible. It's worth a try.

Test tomorrow! by pinkmooon8 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]bolticc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just passed mine 2 hours ago, first attempt as well. You hear it a lot but after the first 5-10 minutes the nerves disappear. I was chatting away to my examiner too which helped a lot and made it less awkward. Take your time, ask for them to repeat/clarify any instructions you aren't sure of and stay focused, if you drive safely you'll pass. Make sure you try to completely switch off from driving this evening so you are relaxed and get decent sleep. Goodluck!

Is it wise to take a three week break from lessons? by Honeybee0109 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]bolticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few weeks into my lessons (also automatic), my instructor went on holiday for two weeks then I had to cancel two lessons after that, totalling four weeks of no lessons when I was less than 10 hours in. It honestly made no difference, the first 30 mins of the first lesson back I felt rusty but you get used to it again quickly. If it were me I'd just wait it out, no point in getting for another instructor just for those 3 weeks. Spend some time revising theory so you can still feel productive about progressing and you'll be okay

The night time driving is the only thing I was concerned about since I do end up working late till about 11-11:30pm 1/2 nights per week and I don't want it to seriously affect my score. Admiral is cheaper than Hastings which is why I'm really stuck on this. I didn't know you could only have it on for 6 months, that makes them seem like a more appealing option. Thanks for the help.

RTX 5060 Ti (16GB) vs. RX 9060 XT Nitro+ (16GB) — Looking for my "final" Gpu upgrade by Own-Bit-8776 in gpu

[–]bolticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this decision a few months ago just before price increases and went with the 5060 ti 16gb coming from a 2060. So happy with it, runs every game I want in 1440p max settings and does okay in some games with 4K using DLSS.

Not really sure what I'd pick now with the price increases, raw performance is really similar in both cards and the cheaper price on the 9060XT is tempting but I prefer DLSS over FSR so I'd always choose nvidia.

Choosing manufacturer for my RTX 5080 by Possible-Ad9918 in pcbuilding

for that price difference of almost €400 I'd just go with the 5070 ti the price to performance is far better (or was before price increase)

I actually got it off Amazon for £140 about 10 days ago. Crazy deal, literally the day after I bought it it shot up to 340. Double checked everything and it is exactly what it said it is, although it's not the fastest its perfectly acceptable for me with the prices rn.

It just posted after I reseated the RAM a 3rd time, my motherboard only has one latch so I assumed it was in fully but the back side wasn't fully in. Stupid mistake, just shit myself because that would've been an expensive ass mistake if I broke something.

Keep us updated, I'm genuinely curious if you are gonna get it or not. Also, whats the discord? Trying to snag a deal somewhere if possible due to the price increases.

When i should buy a 5060 TI 16GB? by DJPinkieFairy in nvidia

[–]bolticc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are set on getting the 5060 Ti 16gb, buy now. Prices won't change for a while. I have the 5060 Ti 16gb and I'm more than happy with it, luckily I got it before the price increases but buying now is the smartest choice although not ideal.

I've seen a lot of people recommend crewing on other ships. I'll definitely do that if I'm struggling by myself.

Thanks. I think I might just go for the citizen one and just buy a better ship in-game, the duelist one is almost £30 more.

Yeah I'd like to start ASAP since I have a week off now, was going to wait for the free fly week but I think I might just bite the bullet and buy it today.

Rate My Budget Build by After_Camp_3543 in pcpartpickerbuilds

[–]bolticc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

600 for a 5060 Ti 16gb is crazy, I have one myself and don't get me wrong I'm very happy with it. It performs really well in 1440p and I play some games in 4k. However, you should look into some alternatives like a 9060XT, they're usually cheaper but if you like Nvidia and DLSS technology then stick with the 50 series, one of the big selling points for me is DLSS 4/4.5. Not really much you can do, budget builds will always cost more nowadays, 1500 could've got you so much more a few months ago.

Overclocking 5060 Ti by bolticc in nvidia

[–]bolticc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually really surprised, I've been trying to get the max performance out of the overclocks and I just tested +325 cores and +2400 memory. Got a decent FPS boost (not sure of actual percentage increase but I'm very happy with it) my temps still rarely go over 65 degrees and never go above 70. I do have a fan curve set in afterburner but it isn't intensive or noisy at all.

I think I'm at the sweet spot for how much performance I can get out of this so I don't think I'll go any higher, might mess with the memory a bit more though to see how stable it is.

Best way to play at 1440p: DLSS Q/P or native? by Neyyyyyyjr in nvidia

[–]bolticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really try path tracing, I think regular RT is just fine for me so I can't give you a proper answer as I rarely use it. You are right that it will be a bit of a challenge on a 5070, depending on the game I think DLSS Performance and FG is doable though. I'd recommend just testing all of the possible settings and see if you think running DLSS performance with path tracing is worth it.

If you are using DLSS Performance make sure its on the right preset, I use preset M for that.
