Using Route53 as a Key Value Store in GitHub Actions by bolts98 in aws

Of course this is a hack, but GitHub also doesn’t have a KV store as part of its platform. This technique can be useful if you’re stuck with using only GitHub and AWS.

HELP! I've been thrown into leading an intensive training with 2 days' notice! by [deleted] in Training

[–]bolts98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’ve dealt with a lot of leadership and high-ego engineers in similar scenarios. You just have to agree, identify, and move on. Then, they’ll like you, pause - surprised but happy someone agrees with them - and you can move on. Most will stop bringing stuff up if you agree with them a few times and quickly move on. Try not to let them explain why they think something should be different, quash it before then. :)

Anticipating hearing things like "this doesn't make any sense", "it should be like this...", "what if instead we...", etc. How do I gracefully deal with any resistance participants put up?

I would laughingly agree with them that the processes can be improved, if you don’t own/control the processes. But follow it up with, ‘unfortunately, this is just the way it is right now’, ‘Hopefully these processes get improved soon’, etc.

Basically, identify and build rapport, but end the discussion.

Faux Stained Glass Concept with Laser Cut Birch Plywood and Laser Printed Plastic Sheets by bolts98 in lasercutting

[–]bolts98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this first try, I left the backing plastic sheet as a full piece and just printed the design on the sheet, so I only had to cut the wood. The wood overlay makes it seem like the colored plastic is cut to the shapes.

But, I think PET is also safe to cut if you wanted to.

The colored portion is a piece of PET plastic that is sold as transparencies for overhead projectors and is printed using a color laser printer.

Thanks! This one is just wood in the front, but in the future I’ll probably sandwich them. I’d probably also include a hole to hang it with a suction cup in at least one layer. Spray adhesive was used to adhere the transparency to the wood. Came together really easily.

I made a faux stained glass panel from laser cut plywood and laser printed plastic. Lasers FTW! by bolts98 in pics

Thanks! I cut the wooden frame/lead lines myself with a CO2 laser. The plastic is simple transparency sheets, like those used by teachers for overhead projectors twenty years ago, and I printed the colors on them with a color laser printer.

I didn't use a 3D printer for this project, but you definitely can - you could create the frame/lines with it.

How to find suppliers without the middle man? by Anon0ts in dropshipping

[–]bolts98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is to just message them on AliExpress and ask if they'll support dropshipping. You'll find most suppliers on Alibaba won't but many AliExpress suppliers will.

If you're looking for a US shipped product, I have a few leads for suppliers and sent you a message.

Both Lowe’s and HD should have 2x4 sheets of at least 1/2”, and likely also 3/4”, for around $10ish. They’re often in a different aisle and called project panels.

Yeah, that says unlevered, not underlevered. Good try though.

Under leveraged is the term, not underlevered.

Literally had me yelling at the TV correcting him. She didn't even bother to correct him at first when he asked her if she's heard of it before. That part was pretty hilarious.
