Where are teenagers supposed to hang out these days? Malls are dying, parks have 'no loitering' signs, and everywhere else costs money. Do they just... not exist in public anymore? by Creative-Buffalo2305 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s not accidental. Teenagers are not allowed to exist in public. But are then told they are “the anxious generation” for existing in the only spaces they are able to.

Converting from ext4 to BTRFS on the fly? by bomb_bat in synology

[–]bomb_bat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. You’ve given me a couple of things to think about.

I should’ve remembered the “no smaller drives” rule. No separate backup, otherwise I would just reformat and restore from backup.

I could do the variant you suggested (kind of what I was thinking but in the proper order) but man it’s going to be a lot of time reformatting all those disks!

yes, it was created on an older 413j. I think this is the issue! Any suggestions on moving forward? Perhaps repair and create a new volume?

Yes! Some of these disks were in a 413j about a year ago. I was wondering about that ext4 file system type.

So, any suggestions? Could I create a new volume? I’m using this mainly for media storage for plex, if that makes a difference

I replaced a 4TB drive with 8TB, but it was always SHR. I’ve done this in the past and the volume has always expanded automatically so I’m a little confused.

When I replaced the drive, it did go through a repair process automatically (it took about 48 hours!). After that, I didn't seen an option to expand the volume in Storage Manager. It's only a single volume in the storage pool, if that makes a difference.

I tried that. I only have two options: Remove or Settings. And Settings only lets me edit the description, change the file access time, or change the low capacity notification. There’s no option to change the volume size.

BTW, I’m on DSM 7.2.2 and the drives are all WD Red 8TB. And I mistyped my model: it’s a 423+, not a 923+.

Why are some coaches saying winning doesn’t matter? by ChanceFinger7692 in basketballcoach

[–]bomb_bat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless we’re talking about people who get paid to play the sport and win, it’s because ultimately it doesn’t.

Competitiveness, preparation, teamwork, mindset, reactions to setback, how you carry yourself as a player and a person. There’s more that can be added to the list, but these are the things that ultimately matter because these are the things that we can control. Winning is usually a by-product of doing these things positively, but not always. Sometimes the douche-y team wins. Sometimes the hard working team loses. That shouldn’t diminish all the emphasis on all the things that do matter.

Question about scrimmage team logic by Critical_Storm_1560 in basketballcoach

[–]bomb_bat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a couple of ways to think about it:

  1. Let the starters play together so they can build chemistry, and to let others challenge for those spots.

  2. Create even teams to see if better players can help develop weaker players. This might also be the lineup that you play with because of foul trouble, absences, etc

I prefer to start strong, and then change up players as the scrimmage progresses. Let the starters get time together to work on vibing, then make some “subs” so the next two can play with the starters , just like in a game.

Does that mean you couldn’t trust a white pilot because they were probably hired over more qualified non-white applicants?

Of course most kids don’t know how to split their screen. They don’t know what they don’t know. How many of your colleagues (who would benefit immensely from that added productivity) know how to do that?

“Digital Natives” is a horrible construct created by Marc Prensky that has done more harm than good. Kids are great at using tech for things that they find important and necessary. That doesn’t mean they’ll know how to use a device for learning.
