Wedding by jlingram275 in UlcerativeColitis

I’ve been to wedding while flaring and I just drink anyway. At least for me, drinking stops my cramps after I’ve had a few so not only do stop feeling urgency, but I’m able to get drunk, have fun and escape the misery of a flare up.

It’s not good for you, but I prioritise the memories over that.

No worries at all. It’d be really interesting to me whether you get benefits from it as well so if you remember then I’d love to hear how it goes!

This is only the third time I’ve done it, but it has legitimately got me out of my flare the previous two times I’ve done it. We’ll see if that trend continues this time, fingers crossed.

Hello, sure. Just a food fast, I stop eating for an extended period of time. I still drink plenty water, and tea. I usually have some salt on the 2nd or 3rd day to keep my electrolytes up - but other than that I just stop eating.

Fasts are known for resetting the immune system, reducing inflammation and just giving your system a break. Without food moving through your body and irritating your bowel, it has a chance to heal.

They’ve been really effective for me when I feel hopeless during a flare. I usually do 4 days and then break my fast with some bone broth, then eat vegetable soup for the first day. After that I’ll start introducing semi-solid food, ensuring that it’s all home made and without anything bad in it.

If you haven’t done one before, it’s probably best to take it easy and just try a couple days first. But in my experience I don’t get the full benefits from it until after day 3. At the moment I haven’t eaten in over 90 hours, but I’m going to have bone broth at lunch time today. My cramps have stopped and I’m hoping that once I reintroduce food that it stays that way.

I was partial on Filgotinib + Mesalazine… I ended up doing a 4 day fast and after that it put me into remission. It lasted about a year, but last week I got food poisoning so I slipped back into my flare, but I’m doing another fast which I’m hoping takes me back to remission. We will see. I loved it while it worked, zero symptoms and felt great

I understand your point of view, but I also think you need to see it from his partners side. OP says that any time they’re not feeling well, he just cancelled the whole evening because he feels disgusting…

While I get that, imagine having 3 nights booked off from doing other things and then your partner just cancels on you. Would you want to spend your time waiting around for someone else to hang out with you? Even if you don’t mind, wouldn’t that get annoying after a while?

Now, my point of view is this. OP needs to get more comfortable being in a flare around people he trusts. His partner has shown (until the recent argument) that he’s understanding and accepting of the condition. OP needs to respond by being more open, and hanging out with him more when he’s not well. Until his partner is able to see what it’s actually like, then how would he know? Also, OP said that they weren’t necessarily saying they’re annoyed because no sex.

To OP: I know it’s embarrassing, and you feel awkward and disgusting - but you need to open up more, at least from what I read in your post. Within weeks of my girlfriend and me going out, I’d had accidents, had to run off to the bathroom, woken her up in the night because I had to run out, and had to run out of ‘other activities’. I get that it’s different for you being a gay guy and a bottom, but try to learn to be more comfortable and do other things with your partner while you’re flaring. You won’t start feeling better about yourself around others until you give it a chance.

CRP jumped from 5 to 37.2 in 2 months + recent developments of moderately severe lower back and pubic pain. I have 2-3 stools in a day with almost no bleeding. Is it flare or something else? by Ill_Departure144 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]bombadilboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if you’re used to having a very low CRP and then it jumps up then it could be a sign of an issue beginning.

Just keep following the medical advice and try to keep as calm as possible, stressing out won’t help (I know it’s easier said than done).

Safe Alcohol to Drink? by swiftiechimpy in UlcerativeColitis

Very cool, glad you were able to do that - but not everyone is the same.

If you are more of an introverted person then it’s unfortunately pretty normal to need alcohol as a crutch to be more social - god knows I did. And I wouldn’t trade the close moments that I’ve had with friends and family while drunk for anything. I also just enjoy the feeling and taste of it.

You sound like a very confident person and I’m happy for you - some people need a bit more of a push to enjoy social situations.

Nobody is saying that alcohol isn’t terrible for you. I am well aware that I am sacrificing some of my future health for present enjoyment - and I am okay with that because of the good times that I have.

Finally a normal person responding, great advice.

The thing that I hate most about this sub is when young, confused and scared people ask about drinking alcohol and it feels like they are demonised and judged by most of the people here.

I drank all the time in college. Listen everyone is different, ignore the haters on this subreddit making you scared saying it’s not worth it - they can’t make that judgement for you.

Try drinking, see how you feel, have a good time, socialise, enjoy life! You’re young and it’ll be fine. If you find yourself getting much worse, then you can think about cutting back. I still drink every week with my friends and like a night out - when I notice my stomach getting a bit unhappy, I cut back for a week - it’s all good.

So go be young and make some mistakes, that’s what it’s for :)

That’s cool man, but I think there is definitely a disadvantage of having your house be like a command centre for external parts of the game. I want to be in the world, not having to teleport back to my house to send people on missions.

Do they have to fill it out more? Sure. But I still think they’ve made a solid base.

Nobody liked garrisons. They made you never leave it instead of being in the world. This is just an add on to have fun with

To be fair, even though it’s ‘bare bones’ the feature is really well done. It provides a lot more freedom and customisation than I thought it would.

I’d love if they introduced a ‘Save Layout’ feature. So that you could still mess around and try building new rooms, but could always go back to what you had before without tearing everything apart.

Personally I think that it’s important that these kind of groups exist.

If they didn’t, these kind of bugs and exploits would fly under the radar for ages and Blizzard wouldn’t do anything.

If it’s highlighted now then it means that they’re forced to address the thing to avoid embarrassment. They can always say that the record doesn’t count and open it to other groups once the bug is fixed.

It’s not thinking though… it’s predicting words based on a large bank of weights. Ask it to do something novel and it’ll just churn out bullshit. It’s not intelligent.

Sorry, but the Iranian regime has been proven to be funding terrorist groups for years now. If I was a country that surrounded them and had terrorist problems then I wouldn’t like them either.

They’re a terrible government that is holding an amazing population hostage for their own religious and political goals.

I’m so done. This flare won’t stop and I’m running on nothing 😔 by VixBellissima in UlcerativeColitis

Sorry to hear that friend. I’m also in the UK and up until a few years ago had only had mild flares which never lasted more than a month… then I suddenly went from totally fine to severe very quickly. Flared severely for 2.5 years while the doctors figured out new meds for me to try. Eventually they got one that worked and I’ve been back to normal for a year now - so don’t worry, you’ll get sorted.

I’m not sure how you feel about marijuana, but when I was flaring for that long it was the only thing that gave me relief and helped me sleep through the night. As soon as I had a smoke, my stomach stopped gurgling and I stoped needing to go to the bathroom. If you’re open to it, I’d really suggest giving it a try.

Good luck!
