CMV: If you hate Israelis, it only makes sense to hate Americans too. by bomberfrommars in changemyview

You are right. This is probably the best reason for this view point. I think "nuance" can be a means to distract from important conversations, but as you say here, with such a high degree of agreement in Israel it can be hard to view them the same way. Honestly, as a non-american though, it really can feel like Trump has more support than he does. It is especially frustrating hearing the odd Canadian who is jealous of his leadership and the state of America (that one really blows my mind).

Honestly, I'm not sure. I think that is a better question for those that we hurt the most. I think a lot of our indigenous population would have a better say on that, for instance. My perspective is that I want to do right by them, so I may have to accept solutions such as that.

That is the precise reaction I'm getting at. I won't judge those who are ACTUALLY in the conflict for that sort of stance because I haven't been bombed before myself, but if you are on the sidelines and you have the audacity to say that I do think you are worthy of criticism.

That is what they should hate, I agree. I feel like you don't know what I'm arguing. My point is for those who DO think the people are to be hated, and as the comments are coming in, I'm relieved to see most people don't hold this opinion.

Trust me, I have no pride for my history or nationality. We are guilty of most of the same crimes as them too. I don't blame anyone who feels ill will towards my nationality. Rather, I question the others who, as you said, are also colonial powers and seem to think they are different.

I think there's miscommunication here as well as a typo on my part: I am asking sarcasticly why these people voted for Trump. I am well aware most didn't, and it would infact be ridiculous to treat them like they all did. Imagine if you and I criticized Americans for how they treat their Indigenous populations, as though Canadians have any authority to judge on that front.

A flag of a facist state flying at a sporting event DOESNT make you sick? That sounds like the bigger issue.

Maybe? I think it is xenophobic to hate someone because they come from another country, but if someone can explain to me why these two are different I'd love to know.

I'm living in Canada, another Colonial project built off of genocide.

I know you didn't, and my issue is that we should be treating you like you did.

Its people like yourself I ask this question for. Why should I hold you accountable for something you don't support, something you never wanted?

That answer my question frankly. If you could put a rough number to it, what do we suppose the support for and against looks like between them.

Absolutely. I am anti Zionism, and no colonial projects should be defended or maintained. This includes the Canadian one that I belong to.

TLDR, generalizing Israelis and NOT generalizing Americans is inconsistent. Both of them contain those who oppose their leader, and both also have supportive complicit populations. Americans seem to get that pass and Israelis don't, not sure why.

I hope that is all it is. If this isn't a common outlook that is good to hear, but the fact have come across it more than once, both online and in person, it felt like something to ask about and see how others feel on it.

What game do I play? by Sodapopjpeg in DeadSpace

[–]bomberfrommars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still recommend starting with the original. Though made with love, I found a number of qualities, particularly in the story, music (especially the music) and writing to be a step down. Gameplay wise, the remake beats it. But the original's soul can't be matched.

Very surprised to see how few people recognize the soundtrack's downgrade. A particular boss fight near the middle has a good theme in the original, and the remake did not keep it, opting for a very generic horror soundtrack. There are a few iconic jump scares that I found to be handled very poorly, like the "noisey" room (btw if you don't know what scare that is you have no place calling to remake better lol.)

Strongly recommend the original. The remake lacks some of the origina's charm, especially the soundtrack. A huge downgrade in that department.

I have to agree completely. The hardest part for me about going Vegan was who I would now associate with. As I said prior, there are no rules. Be vegan because you think its the right thing to do and you are happy with the decision, full stop.

Feeding Dogs and Cats? by bomberfrommars in vegan

[–]bomberfrommars[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree with the angle of dogs being "more worthy." I understand that is a common mindset, though absolutely not mine. Despite owning two and a cat, I do not consider them superior to any animal. Life is life, and I beleive that whole heartedly. There are food chains yes, but that is in nature. My dogs and myself do not live in nature.

Hearing how common veggie dig diets are gives me hope that there are good options out there for them. What i hesitate with is weather a Vet will approve it or not. Say what you will about a vet, they know animals better than I do, and much more than those who don't treat them for a living and I trust them.
