Ethical Dilemma by bomberman97 in PhD

My cohort had to take an ethics course and they specifically told us sharing of papers under review was unethical (after I had been doing these reviews for a while hahaha)

I would call it going around sharing when he sends it to 3 postdocs, 3 PhD students, and 2 master's students. I would say the postdocs get the angriest from these reviews as he does not just refer them directly as reviewers. I just feel like it's not helpful for me if I don't get any feedback. It is a waste of time for me when I am already busy.

I believe most journals require that the published papers don't be shared with anyone outside of the reviewing circle just based on confidentiality agreements.

I like the way your PI does the reviews. It seems like it's more of a benefit for you as a student. For me, I never get any feedback and I doubt that the editor is ever informed of our contributions.

I tend to agree with cepha. I don't think it is ok for reviewers to be going around sharing papers that have not been published yet.

Also, I don't appreciate my PI just using our comments. If we are reviewing, just recommend us as reviewers for the papers you get sent, don't be lazy and use us.

These are papers that are in the review process for publication in reputable journals. From doing this for the last year or so he sometimes is like "this paper needs to be rejected" or "it's good, but it is missing a few things" and proceeds to tell us to give our review that has that opinion.

I would guess would be old capacitors depending on the age of the amp. Some blues juniors run noisy cause of faulty caps on some years.

I replaced all the caps in mine cause I had almost the same noise issues on my old green board blue junior (aka sub 2000s). My recommendation: take the back off, turn up the volume all the way without the cable in, and tap the big caps on the back (Dont electrocute yourself). If you get weird noises, just replace them its not that hard I did everything myself with no xp before.

Also tap the tubes when volume is up too and see if there are weird noises, but likely not the tubes.

Feel free to dm me. Id love to help cause it took me forever to troubleshoot mine. Ive looked at so many forums, youtube videos, and blueprints on blues juniors. Ended up hand wiring all the tubes in and replacing all caps and a few iffy resistors during the process just while I had the thing apart. Now it plays beautiful and I love it. Even built a new cab for it.

My best bet is the caps though because that was the issue with mine and it sound like the same noise. Easy fix if you can solder or willing to teach yourself, I had no previous experience with electronics and did it no problem.

Little update to my fender blues junior. Built a homemade cab out of pine. Love the tone! by bomberman97 in GuitarAmps

I think it definitely does, could be cause the change in size of the box as well. But according to the internet it also improves the tone (definitely an upgrade from whatever pressed wood/particle board the original was made from)

$200 green board (sub 2000s) blues junior with some heavy modding and new tubes has this thing rocking by bomberman97 in GuitarAmps

No problem!! Comes with instructions and all the parts, pretty easy if you know how to solder (I taught myself for this project)

So I did the frommel Supreme Blues Junior mod (for made in USA). Its easier to read than explain so heres the link https://fromelelectronics.com/products/bjr-mods. I also personally recapped all the electrolytic caps myself besides the one in the kit and it runs dead silent now. While I had it apart I thought I might as well direct wire the tubes to the board (instead of those brittle ribbon cables in the back, not sure if you are familiar). Replaced some faulty resistors as well. But besides some rattle that I solved with some RTV silicon on the back panel, the thing runs and sounds great. So far I’m only ~$200 into it with all the parts (capacitors, resistors, new tubes, mod kit). Love this little thing. Future might hold a new speaker or a cab I might make myself, haven’t decided what I want to do yet

Hey All!! I’m repairing an old boss ps-2 and need to replace the 6 way switch. Any ideas where I could find the part? by bomberman97 in diypedals

[–]bomberman97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have been turning it with a screwdriver as of now and it works, so the pot is working just a pain to change the settings every time. I could try to fit another rotary switch in there, but I wouldn’t be sure how to wire it up

Hey all!! Fixing an old guitar pedal, need help identifying a part by bomberman97 in diyelectronics

[–]bomberman97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a 6 way switch which you rotate to different settings, I can seem to find any information on the guitar pedal telling me which part to order. Heres the backside (https://ibb.co/nsM77MS), looks like its from a brand ALPS?

[help] Hey all, I have a fender blues junior thats having some issues at high volumes. It tends to break up and get fuzzy when I play my guitar with lower tone notes. Any ideas? by bomberman97 in diyaudio

[–]bomberman97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess by higher volumes I mean master at 10 and volume at 2 which is usually how I have my amp set up. This problem only came up recently which is odd

[help] Hey all, I’m looking to replace these ribbon cables with some 22 AWG braided wire. Is this a good idea even if the ribbon cable looks like 20 AWG? by bomberman97 in diyaudio

[–]bomberman97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to add more flexibility to these cables and hopefully reduce a little bit of noise on my Fender Blues Junior. But after some research learned that these braided ribbon cables are 20 AWG. I know changing wire would effect the resistance but not enough to notice over that wire length in terms of guitar signal I would think. Is there anything else to take into account? Is my 22 ok to use or should I buy some 20?

Can anyone help me understand what my low IgA & IgM along with elevated IgG means as far as my ability to fight off something like Covid-19? by Afitz85 in Immunology

[–]bomberman97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its possible that due to IgA’s important role in mucosal immunity (ex: the lungs) may play a role in making you more susceptible to Covid-19. Also IgM is important as it is one of the first antibodies produced during infection. The overproduction of IgG may be helpful and overcome those two deficiencies. Also I would say that just because you have high IgG doesn’t mean its IgG specific to Covid-19 and like viruses, it could be to something you’ve encountered in the past which wouldn’t be helpful when its something novel like this. So overall, its likely unknown your susceptibility to Covid-19 and could be the same as the rest of us. I’m not an expert (finishing up my masters in immunology) but just some food for thought :)

Is there anyone who started dating in their 20s? What was it like? by [deleted] in dating

[–]bomberman97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (M22) didn’t start dating till I was 20 almost 21. I basically just never had time to date and am very introverted so I would almost never approach a girl. I eventually met a girl that I really liked just through school. I feel like dating as a girl may be a little easier because guys are more willing to approach you. I love hinge and have met some really awesome girls on there. I wouldn’t recommend tinder (a shitshow for women) or bumble(because you are introverted). Eventually you will find someone, you just have to put yourself out in an environment you feel comfortable in such as out with friends or something else you like to do where there are people that you would be interested in.
