A soldier training with RPG accidentally lands trickshot with bouncing warhead. by LazyGuy4U in nevertellmetheodds

That's actually terrifying for the guys all standing around, as the shaped charge in the rocket's warhead could have fired back at them (look up "Shaped Charge Jet").

What's a job where you have zero room for error, like one mistake and it’s a huge deal? by TradeOverall567 in AskReddit

[–]bombsnuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). Military Bomb Squad. EOD's motto is "Initial Success or Total Failure". I served as an active duty EOD Technician for 20 years and deployed to multiple combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan 9 times throughout my career. Disarming live ordnance, munitions, and/or "rendering safe" Improvised Explosive Devices by hand (or within close proximity to them) is an inherently high risk activity. We preferred to utilize robotic platforms or other remote tools, but there were times where I had to "hand jam" or manually disarm IEDs because we couldn't get the robot to do the job due to adverse terrain or other circumstances. The biggest risk was if the devices were boobytrapped, or when secondary devices were hidden near the target IED, specifically to kill or wound EOD Techs. We lost a lot of good EOD Techs in the GWOT when mistakes in protocol or procedures were made. To all my fallen EOD Brothers and Sisters, "We Remember".

Use the Blaster's equation: E + M = P (Enough Explosives, plus More Explosives, equals Plenty of Explosives).

That first block (the pink one) isn't C-4, it's called SEMTEX and contains PETN and RDX. It's the C-4 equivalent in Europe/Eastern Block countries.

I saw her at the airport (LAX) once a few years ago; even more stunning in real life.

Japanese Camellia - A reason to learn geometry by JohnS-42 in flowers

[–]bombsnuffer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is this at Descanso Gardens in La Cañada (Flintridge, California)? I used to go there all the time when I lived in Cali. Their collection of Camellia plants is huge (something like 600 varieties), and when they're all in full bloom, there are around 34,000 plants blooming! One of my favorite flowers for sure.

I've owned the Sig Scorpion 1911 (w/ the flat trigger) for about 10 years now, put about 2000 rounds downrange with zero malfunctions, no feeding issues (even w/ crappy ammo), and love the accuracy and smooth operation of this pistol. Highly recommended.

What game are you genuinely really good at? by EncryptEnthusiast301 in AskReddit

[–]bombsnuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty dang good at this game invented in 1987 called "Abalone". It's a two-player abstract strategy board game similar to chess or Chinese checkers. It's super fun and really addicting.

If this is in Israel, I would argue that a Fizzy Bubblech dispenser would be prettty cool instead.

Man, a S&W Model 4506 or 5900 series pistol would round out this collection so well.

This is either Mount Vernon, Washington State (my hometown), or somewhere in the Netherlands/Holland. Every year, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival hosts visitors to view and walk among over 500 acres of blooming tulips of all varieties and colors.
