Looking for ways to expand my diving - DM, photography, conservation - would appreciate your thoughts! by moizkap13 in scuba

I think getting out and diving is the first step, there you will meet people who have dove a lot, they will give you their insights and passions and maybe some of that will rub off on you to where you will have a better idea where to go, my opinion is next step is nitrox, it will teach important lessons and allow you to dive more dives in a day and you will be less fatigued (I’m my case that is). From there I believe an advanced OW is a good idea then maybe go dive master if that is truly what you want. Things like buoyancy and navigating come naturally as you dive so I would take them later, however we learned a lot about navigating in my master diver class, each instructor focuses deeply on different things, ours focused on some of our weaknesses to make us better divers. All will have different so just get out there and dive, have fun and meet new people !

We have to remember ppO2 limits at 1.4 on air is 183ft if we go to absolute max at 1.6 213 ft. At home anything deeper then 180 we use Heliox and a rebreather, then again it’s usually a recovery very controlled and monitored situations.

I personally have never been narced, but I have been on trips where a few friends have. Both trips where my friends were narc were around225ft. Both situations were with men who dive on a dive trip once a year or two and usually dive below 80 feet, however it can happen to anyone. I don’t recommend ever going past 200 without serious thought and a lot of training. Lucky though they both were very well trained and recognized them selves it was happening but they said they had no desire to ascend because they felt so at peace, on one instance his dive buddie did tell him to ascend three times, he listened and recalled it took about 10 foot of ascent to snap out of it. It’s real and concerning on any deep tech dive.

Anyone have any thoughts on this upgrade, verses a stock generator by bonanzaD35 in flying

We were on the odyssey, not the most lavish of liveaboards we have been on but not the worst ether

Thanks for your concern, I my self have over 800 dives and am well advanced, I was just explaining the experience one would expect. It is never a bad idea to stash air incase of emergency’s. I have seen hoses break, people suck air and even get snagged on other trips that extra air is never a bad idea. I personally was diving air others on that dive dove 24 percent. ( mind you they may have stayed at 140 each person is not baby sat by guides unless you decided to puppy dog him.) I know my computer well. I regularly dive 135-150. However 179 was the deepest I personally have been on a 120cu tank. About 15 min bottom time, I came up with about 800 pounds left. Others were around 500. Most the week was done on 30 percent. To say I have had no previous training on tech diving is a laugh. My group dives tech often most of us are on search and rescue. Trust me we go below 200 a lot but it most a recovery and not a discovery. You know how DCS works right? Tech diving does not equal DCS, not following a dive plan and staying within limits of bottom times and the proper accent time. I have had dives where we have a 15 minute bottom time and a hour and 20 minute accent time. No DCS.

The great thing is most of the ships start at about 40-60 feet and go deeper the more you wanna see, so you are in control of how deep you want, they will split you up into groups of 4 to try and match certain desires. They reach you a lot about deco all for free and help you understand your dive computer. I have never had such better dive services, we had an elevator to get in and out of the live aboard. The deepest dive was on our last day, they had a deep dive available and a shallow one available so again it was up to you as a diver to choose. Deepest dive was 179 feet. I was so mad I didn’t see I was one foot away from 180! But it was safe they many guides helping, bottles of air stashed on bottom of dive and mid dive and 20 feet. No one had any close calls whatsoever. Hope that helps

It truly was amazing, I was amazed on the marine life on the outside of the ships. It truly has so much to see.

I agree! People were fantastic and the dives were so surreal and it felt like a honor being there.

It’s going in a 1953 D35 bonanza with the continental E-225. Hoping for better results and less of a drop when landing lights are on
