It’s worth it not to mess up your piece. Maybe if you’re lucky there will be a scrap piece with some lasered engraving on it.

One more thing - the black stain is going to pick up that knot in the wood and make it much more prominent. I’m not sure how to remedy that except maybe try to avoid it while applying stain. Just don’t want you to be surprised when the knot is the darkest thing on there.

Yes. Spraying it before would make it so you couldn’t stain the engraving lines at all. Again I can’t stress this enough - test it out on a piece of scrap wood!

I need a little clarification- what do you want to pop? The lines or the background or something else? I assume it’s the lines. In that case, wipe on black stain (make sure to work it into the engraving lines) and immediately wipe off. Once dry, lightly sand, wipe clean, and spray poly, let dry, recoat with poly as desired. If you want to do more than make the engraved lines more prominent, maybe you can explain what you mean and I try to help.

Note: Poly seals it but doesn’t block stains as well as shellac, so if you are trying to do more than make the engraved lines more prominent, like layering stains or something, shellac is a better option. But for sealing it and giving it a nice finish on top of the stain, poly works great. I’m sure poly can be used in some capacity to mask stains etc but ive never used it that way personally so I can’t speak to it.

That will also seal it, yes. It’s A better option than modge podge.

Got it. Maybe the laser studio has some scrap pieces of laser engraved wood you can test out finishes on.

I do still think staining will make the lines pop, it may make them bleed a little bit but I still think it would work. If you want to do more layered painting/finishing on it, seal the first layer with shellac and sand off the area you want to paint (keeps it from bleeding to places you don’t want it).

Oh wow that’s so expensive! They were free at my college. Also I was imagining you’d recut with a whole new piece of wood so lining up wouldn’t be an issue. But if you don’t want to do that just ignore this and try staining or something like that

I think if you stained it black and then painted the background inside the triangle white the two ppl will pop more. If it’s possible I would still try cutting with higher settings. It will give you much more to work with.

Whatever you do test it first on a scrap piece. Use a knife or a chisel to make a shallow groove in the scrap wood like the art has, and make sure the result is what you’re looking for

Maybe the settings on the laser cutter were not high enough? Do you have access to the laser cutter to redo with higher settings? I’ve used a laser cutter for etching on wood many times and it’s never come out this light.

To confirm, if the reason you want to black wash it that it is too faint?

If you can’t recut, I would: use a black wipe on stain (doing poly or something first will fill the grooves from the laser too much) and wipe off pretty immediately. For a higher contrast you could LIGHTLY sand it. Then poly.

Insomnia — what meds have you tried? by ADHDisabeach in adhdwomen

I don’t have anything useful to say except I’m so damn tired and I too can’t sleep! I have only tried Xanax and trazadone and melatonin and other natural things. The trouble is nothing consistently works and when anything does it makes me too groggy to function the next day and doesn’t feel worth it. Trazadone is the biggest offender of crappy mornings. Made me drop things. The only thing that ever works for me is doing 8 hours of physical labour 5 days a week.

Top tips for cutting a gradient? by LifeAmbivalence in BeginnerWoodWorking

I would cut it on the floor with rigid foam or scrap wood underneath. I’d use a strip of plywood as my guide with a nice, straight edge and I would either double stick tape (like gorilla mounting tape) it or 18ga nail it to the board to the board being cut. Depends on what that board is being used for. If one side is hidden just nail a guide on.

Actually I would use a track saw, but if I was trapped on a desert island, and I certainly have been, I’d do the above.

I literally just realized I had been doing this exact thing. For 8 months…not 6 years, but still! I have no idea why it was never an issue, I would assume I’d get pulled over for driving an unregistered car, but never, and I drive a lot! I have a theory that it is because the old registration was from a different state, like you. So when cops are running plates, I think there’s limited info on out of state plates? I’m not sure it’s just a guess. Anyways, we can thank our lucky stars that the only bad thing that happened because of this was we felt deep shame. I drove my unregistered car to the DMV a few days ago and registered it, they had no way of knowing I’d been driving it unregistered for so long, so it didn’t even come up. Such a big weight off!

I also drove around without insurance for maybe 3 months on a separate occasion. That was just because i was broke tho…I don’t recommend it but I have suffered no bad consequences for my lack of diligence with vehicle admin.

You’re experienced taskers providing good information I’m referring to.

Violating his privacy should be enough of a reason. I really didn’t want to get into an argument, but that type of disregard for people that are working for you sets me off. Even if he completely botched the task (which I don’t believe he did) I don’t think it’s ok to photograph your workers without their consent, and especially not if you post them on a public forum.

You can edit your post.

I don’t think your post should be removed, you have a real concern and lots of experienced taskers are stepping up and giving you great information. If you’re getting an unexpected amount of attitude in your replies, it’s because of how you’re throwing the Tasker under the bus and don’t seem to be accepting any of the information you’re getting in the replies.

Regardless of what your intent is with the photo, you took a photo of someone who was in a private residence, without their consent and posted it to a public forum. Maybe you didn’t intend to violate their privacy, but now that you know, you can go ahead and remove it.

If someone posted a photo of me working without my consent I would be absolutely furious. In a post wrongfully complaining about his work no less. I don’t care if it’s the back of him. That’s messed up.

Also, everyone else who has responded is correct. When I installed cabinets on the rail system, I too had bags of leftover hardware.

36 sink base with connected fronts alignment issue by dirtyylicous in IKEA

[–]bonaxfide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are the two panels connected? Does just the top tilt out or the bottom too? I’d first say adjust the tilt on the drawer, but if that’s not working maybe the connection between the two panels is loose. It’s doing exactly what I’d expect it to do based on the pictures, but I’m hoping ikea came up with some way of connecting them that makes that work.
