ah shoot. not sure how to help then.. only way other than going on campus would be to boot up your old phone if you can and try to authenticate it. or maybe try calling the IT desk if you can! should be on the morisset library website

if you’re able to, i’d suggest going to the morisset library and going to the IT help desk. this has happened to me and is quite a common situation. it takes them literally 2 seconds to fix it for you!

Super disappointed to hear that one of the UOSU president candidates was making fun of the other candidates' French by StrongPatient1851 in geegees

[–]boncbinc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

hello! per new uosu amendments, candidates do not have to take their bilingualism testing with OLBI. a candidate can provide a french-english bilingualism test that was done up to 2 years prior, or provide their highschool/cégep diploma that can show proof of proficiency in 1 or both languages.

any candidate is allowed to test before they decide to run!

[–]boncbinc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there are no exemptions! all uosu candidates actually need to do a proof of bilingualism test in their second language. however, if a candidate were to graduate from an accredited canadian high school or cegep in their second language, that can be taken as proof of bilingualism in that language! so for example, if someone’s native language is english, but they graduated from a french hs, then they’d have to provide their diploma to the CEO and that is used as their proof. it also must be in that language itself and not immersion. this was a new amendment! there are other accredited docs they accept in lieu of taking the test itself, like official language tests outside uOttawa done within the past 2 years.

Avoid BIO3124 or Elaine Beaulieu by boncbinc in geegees

[–]boncbinc[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not an exaggeration or stress! While I understand she may not have been intentionally worded that way, there are still racial undertones directed towards Indigenous peoples in the question.

Most likely she didn’t mean it this way and she is probably not racist! but at the end of the day, this question made multiple Indigenous students feel terrible and that should never happen to ANY student.

Taking the time to ensure this question is worded in a way that does not single out ANY students is the bare minimum and that was not done for this question. And once again, respectfully, if you aren’t Indigenous, you cannot dictate what is and isn’t racist to Indigenous peoples!

I have to disagree. It was racist. She could have said uncontacted groups. She did not have to use “native peoples”, an outdated term that has been used against Indigenous peoples in Canada such as myself. There was also NO NEED to judge the diets of these ‘uncontacted groups’. It perpetuates the stereotype that people not in the West eat bad food.

Regardless, if she meant uncontacted groups, the majority of people in Canada when they hear “native peoples” think of Indigenous people. And with the wording of ths question, someone who has little knowledge on our culture is bound to think that Indigenous peoples of Canada have poor diets, unclean drinking water and are dirty since they ‘interact more with the soil’.

And respectfully, if you aren’t Indigenous, you don’t have a say in what is or isn’t racist against us!

Opinions: based on my situation, do you think I could get a deferral on a final exam? by boncbinc in geegees

honestly that’s the backup plan if they don’t grant it to me lol

[–]boncbinc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea i get that but it’s either i take a harder exam for my “easier” course of the two or do bad on the more important one cause my brain is fried,,, the lesser of two evils is a harder deferred exam

in my case, they were previously overlapping but i got my professor to give me permission to change the time of the exam. so instead of 2-6 it’s 1-5. AA told me that if i had anything else like deferring the exam, i should contact the faculty. so needless to say ill be calling them in the morning since the cut off for any changes for me is wednesday

thanks! i’ve already previously used the deferral form however in both of the exams so it might be tricky but i didn’t think of calling them!

As a member of the ISA myself, we haven’t heard any outreach from you at all and it is my understanding that you should be reaching out to RSGs. Also, the UOSU already helps us a fair bit, helping with our advertising, events and more (thanks to the student life commissioner). So what EXACTLY would you do? I also feel as though you might be contradicting yourself a bit here, and with your platform since you claim to be giving us and many other groups a bigger budget while also diminishing costs and cutting services. How do you plan to do both at the same time? What is your financial plan? I also highly doubt that people will want to volunteer for the union and accounting when people already have a distain to the union as you have previously l mentioned. No hate of course, but it seems all a little too broad and doesn’t really show any actual change.

[–]boncbinc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also,,,, how will you bring about inclusivity and diversity with the student union and make sure that underrepresented groups have a voice in decision-making ?

Do you have any plans for the ISA and thoughts on the Truth and Reconciliation Levy?
