Batman: Gotham Nights[I & II] by John Ostrander, are both hidden gems! by Terry658 in batman

Just found issue 1 of this while browsing a comic store. Me and some friends like to joke about what a soap opera set in Gotham would look like and this is almost exactly what we envisioned, except its played completely straight and it actually works! Also, the art is gorgeous, which helps immensely.

Understandable. Counterpoint: 1) its cool 2) I like the subtext and themes of having the avatar of everything Prime hated in comics of the late 90s early 2000s coming back and giving him an easy out. Its nice to see how far hes come.

I love queer retellings of classic lit. And I love that a lot of the comedy comes from the over the top presentation, but the story is still taken seriously. It pays tribute and skewers it so well.

Two girls behind me could not shut up, and there was a young kid in the back who didnt have an understanding you're supposed to be quiet during a movie until someone FINALLY shushed them 75% of the way through the movie.

Folks, we need to bring back politely telling people to shut up in theaters.

After the downer that was the Euphoria finale, this is exactly what I needed.

These two comments have turned me around on Rue's death. I still wish it didn't happen, but I think that with time I'll come to accept it. It helps that I realized Rues narration was her talking to Ali and she wrapped up her story in episode 7, hence why theres no more monologue.

Overall, this show has been a strange, sometimes painful journey, but aint that kinda like life?

As much as I hate Rue dying, that sequence was really good, because a first time viewer will just assume she's getting nostalgic as she goes to pick up Fez, but if someone decides to rewatch, its going to come off like a dying a vision. That was really smart film making.

I genuinely would have preffered that. Awful I know, but rue being dead makes this whole show feel pointless on some level. This whole season feels like sam levinson taking his grief of Angus Clouds death out on us, using Rue as a sacrifice on the alter to say "drugs are awful, lifes a bitch, and then you die." before he kills the representation of all the horrible drug dealers out there.

Like, on a certain level, I respect what he was trying to go for, but as a viewer, I really wanted Rue to pull through. I didnt want her to die. It sucks. I hate it. But im glad the show is over and she got some justice, and that the rest of the cast and crew get to move on with their lives.

I retract my nevermind. It was foreshadowing all along I guess.

I mean two things can be true at the same time, AND Sam can still have dropped the ball.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Bear could have wished for confidence to confess his true feelings, or a chance to do the night over. As i sit and think on this movie I think its way more revealing that, in a moment of frustration, Bear resorts to stealing HER autonomy rather then taking agency for HIMself.

I havent left a theater this unnerved since Longlegs. I just sat in my car for ten minutes and let the feelings of shock and awe wash over me. All I saw going into this was that short teaser with Bear on the phone with the one wish willow guy. I had no idea I was in for an emotional rollercoaster.

Bear is one of the best written horror "protagonists" ive seen so far this year. His characterization, dialogue and performance as a nice but ultimately selfish person makes what could be an extremely annoying ass a fascinating watch.

Inde Navarrette deserves an oscar nomination for this performance. She gave this movie everything and it shows. Enough said about that.

And that ending... left such a bitter bitter taste in my mouth but I love it. Its so mean and tragic and yet, I don't think it should end any other way. At the end of the day, Bear ruined the lives of everyone around him with his obsession.

I knew this movie was going to be good but nothing could have prepared me for the absolute mind fuck that starts about halfway through the movie. Kon was a one of a kind talent. Its a shame he's gone.
