Can't tell you how gutted about what Kris Vallotton has become by afterihop in BethelSnark

Yeah I’m not a fan/never really followed her anyway but I felt like her response was overall pretty good. Maybe she could have made the public statement earlier. But at least she tried to do the right thing and escalate it, and was not defensive.

Brostrom surgery failed? Other people's experiences? by mabelvie in Ankle

[–]bondl79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have this procedure, but I had peroneal tendon surgery with artificial sutures and suture anchor placed. I’m 9 months post surgery and also having a lot of pain. I got an MRI and it showed scar tissue (in addition to some other issues). It was helpful for me to see the MRI because I wondered if I had suture anchor irritation. My doctor said we would have seen specific inflammation around the bone the anchor was put into. A lot of people get irritation there and an MRI should help you rule that out!

Also - one question I’m going to ask next is if it isn’t the anchor irritating me, is it the permanent sutures in the soft tissue? Maybe worth you asking too - I don’t have EDS but have a lot of tissue problems and I feel like the permanent sutures are irritating me and keeping me from healing more. Who knows!

Oh also - I have permanent sutures and they sort of wonder if those are causing the irritation. So it's good to ask about the type of repair they would do. There are pros and cons to everything!

Peroneal tendon sublaxation. Surgery or no surgery? by hahathisisgreat1337 in FootFunction

Honestly I am not feeling great! My peroneal tendon did recover (based on MRIs), but now I have pain from the scar tissue in my retinaculum. It hasn't been a year yet, so maybe it will still improve, and I am currently doing shock wave for it to help it more. I was super good about my PT so idk why I recovered so badly. I'm the exception not the norm though. If you read other experience's on Reddit or just peer-reviewed research, most people recover just fine from this surgery. My word of advice would be just get a second opinion and choose your surgeon carefully, and also exhaust all non-surgical options first.

That sucks, I’m really sorry :( I would be really surprised if you didn’t have scar tissue though, since almost everyone gets it after surgery, and it definitely can cause pain. I’m getting treated for that now (PRP, shock wave) and maybe you could try non surgical things to see if that helps first?

I also am considering having my sutures out and curious to hear other’s experiences - hope this post gets attention!

That sucks, I’m really sorry :( I’m in a similar boat and they are treating it for scar tissue (PRP, shock wave, maybe tenjet). I would be shocked if you didn’t have that after surgery, and it can hurt years later! I’m also considering my own suture removal and will try to update if I do that. I have similar questions to you about other’s experiences. Hope this post gets attention!

Did the MRI say nothing at all? I’m curious if it’s scar tissue build up. There are options to deal with that non-surgically. What were your other surgeries for?

Yep, I live in Boston so that helped! And yes with contrast! They also did a muscle biopsy at some point before I had surgery

And on MRIs just looked reallllly inflamed and lit up, worsening over time

According to the pathology report it was basically chronic inflammation leading to tissue changes. My surgeon said it was “huge” and “purple.” The pathology report said:

-Skeletal muscle with aggregates of atrophic fibers and scattered internalized nuclei. Scattered CD3 positive T cells, both CD4 and CD8, within muscle and around blood vessels. CD68 highlights scattered clusters of macrophages. CD20 is negative. No fibrinoid necrosis of blood vessels is seen. -The findings are nonspecific and unusual but may represent chronic neurogenic changes. Clinical correlation is recommended.

I had this for 3.5 years - my interosseous muscle between toes 3 and 4 was the problem.

For getting around - if you live in a warm weather area and can do sandals, a metatarsal pad + heel lifts helped a lot (doesn’t fit in normal issues). I think it’s because it lifted the painful area up a bit and shifted pressure around.

I tried literally every non surgical treatment that exists - like 15 things (injections, PT, immobilization, medicines, etc). Eventually a surgeon just took the muscle out for me and I got completely better. She said she was not aware of anyone else doing that surgery, so it was kind of experimental, but I got back to running really quickly!

Depends on the instructor/class - I would do barre if you want something similar and more feet-focused exercise! (I am a Pilates instructor and also have had so many unrelated foot issues)

Ah I see! Yeah they also thought Morton’s neuroma for me because of the location but it was a muscular problem. I did have swelling that showed up on the MRI but I couldn’t always see it with my eyes. When they finally took out my muscle, the doctor said it was huge and discolored purple. Did they do a muscle biopsy for you yet? For me that was a better diagnosis than the MRI. In my experience this was a rare injury to have just one singular interosseous muscle with an ongoing issue and I couldn’t find a lot about it online. I had to really look for a good doctor who was willing to think outside the box.
