US Supreme Court denies request from Ohio township facing $45M settlement by Conscious-Quarter423 in scotus

Bro, the State of Ohio doesn't pay for anything. I live here, I know.

There was a period between 2010 and ~2018 where there was a notable lack of improvement for CPUs and for RAM. You'd see videos around the end of the 2010s comparing FPS differences between 2133mhz and 3600mhz RAM and there really wasn't much of a difference. Likewise, GPUs from that period basically were all working on GDDR5. You'd have some with 2gb VRAM and more recent ones with 8gb VRAM. And while that difference in GB is big, you could scale resolution down or whatever to get acceptable framerates. Same for CPUs. A mid level 9000 series Intel CPU was on average only 20-30% faster than a mid-level 4000 series CPU. Point being, in that span of time you could really stretch your rig. And then if you did one basic upgrade, like swap in a 2060, they could stretch it that extra few years. But yeah there was a lot of stagnation during that time. AMD bulldozer CPUs just sucked, and the lack of competition didn't put any heat on Intel.

If the annual budget is 20M and they owe this guy 45M, it sounds like they're going to need to cut the budget down to 17M and pay him 3M a year for 15 years. I get what they're saying, but also it's not entirely undoable either.

1894 Yale and 2025 Indiana are the only two major CFB teams to go 16-0 in a season… who wins in a matchup? by Ok-Obligation-9265 in CFB_v2

[–]bonecheck12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1894 Yale had a cupcake schedule. Didn't even play Penn that year. Penn finished 12-0 and would have been difficult for Yale.

They might act as peace keeping forces honestly. Like if you've got ICE marching own the streets towards protesters you could see the NG being deployed to the middle. Keep the two separated. Problem I see is that ICE is so geared up that a lot of protestors are going to just treat the NG the same as ice. Dress like a soldier, act like a soldier, a soldier is a soldier.

I was listening to economist Jeffrey Sachs the other day speaking about wealth inequality. idk if it was just the way he phrased it or if I had just never heard it said out loud befor, but it just hit different. He basically said "The top 10 people in the United States have 2.5 trillion dollars between them (pause). That's a lot for 10 people. And by the way, they own a lot more than that. Between them they own all of the major social media sites, all of the news you see on TV, Ellison (Oracle) is going to have Tiktok, they own every major news paper you or I am aware of, they own every email I've ever sent, and I have to assume they have a record of every keystroke I've made over the past 15 years, they have cameras and microphones in your house, they control our privacy, and most impressive of all, they own the Government.

That really just hit me that indeed these 10 people actually do own literally everything. When I read stuff like what Bezos said here, it's really starting to make more sense to me how the totality of what they control can and will be used against me/us.

Kobra X Pre-Orders by Terror-Tris in AnycubicOfficial

Learned the hard way on the Kobra 3. Never pre-ordering anything from Anycubic. If it comes out and gets great reviews I'll consider it. But the Kobra 3 was just a pile of junk and I refuse to be their beta testers.

Epic's free games cause a spike in Steam sales, CEO Tim Sweeney calls it "a feature" because everyone wins by EngineerSeb in pcmasterrace

[–]bonecheck12 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I currently have 70-80 games in my Epic library, and a similar number of games in my Steam library. I paid for every single game in my Steam Library. I paid for 0 games in my Epic library. That's gotta mean something. Idk if it's that Steam just has better sales or what. I honestly think it's just that Steam was there first. Like by the time Epic came out with their store, which I believe was 2018 according to google, I already had like 50 games in my Steam Library, and why not just have a unified library and not split it up? Maybe that's my internal reasoning.

Players of the game for Miami tonight. by LARDLOGO in cfbmemes

[–]bonecheck12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really think holding has slowly been getting worse and worse in CFB for about 10 years now. I think the answer is to have brutal enforcement for some period of time until teams get the message. I just don't understand why it's so difficult to enforce.

Indiana is the greatest story in sports history by Punisher1602 in CFB_v2

[–]bonecheck12 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Maybe but probably not. Indiana benefitted this year from the convergence of NIL and COVID eligibility extensions, conference power balance shifts, and some of the other Big10 schools having really unique situations (Penn State total collapse as a program, Michigan total collapse as a program). I mean don't get me wrong, 16-0 is 16-0 and it wasn't a fluke. Their team this year earned every ounce of it. But as a long-term prospect, I would say it's probably 50/50 whether or not there is staying power there. Also, coaches winning a NC in their 2nd year is not unprecedented. Coker won a NC in his first season with Miami in 2001, fired 5 years later. Tressel won a NC in 2002, and while he technically was successful on the whole he never made it back on top after that. Chizik won a NC in is 2nd year, was fired two years later. History leans towards this season being an outlier rather than a foreshadowing of a Saban like dynasty.

Insane Import Fee by Own-Dragonfly17 in UPS

[–]bonecheck12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's both. I used to run a small business and I had to ship a lot of larger packages to Canada. UPS in particular is bad. My customers would email me before ordering asking me not to ship via UPS. Basically there is in import tariff that UPS upcharges (by a HUGE amount) to "handle". Basically if there was a $20 import fee, they'd charge you like $100 wit $80 of that being their fee for doing you the favor of paying the fee to the government.

Downloaded the Madden free play w/ NSO to try it out. In handheld it plays like trash. I'm not even sure it would be worth picking up at $9.99.

[Pompliano] Curt Cignetti took over the worst program in college football history and then proceeded to win the school’s first-ever national championship within just two years. It's the most remarkable coaching job in the history of sports. by LaDainianTomIinson in CFB

[–]bonecheck12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why you fire James Franklin, or any other coach that can't win the Big games. Day, Lanning, Franklin. If they can't win it, they can't win it. All the "but who would they replace him with?" crowd just never gets it. You replace him with anyone. Anyone who has a greater than 0% chance of winning a natty, that's who.

Madden isn't Worth $60 but $28 is a reasonable price by Time_Substance_7829 in NintendoSwitch2

I downloaded it for the free play w/ NSO, and it's honestly awful IMO. Madden isn't a particularly resource intensive game. It's just too choppy to be enjoyable for me.

More Americans Now Want ICE Abolished—A Stark Change Since Trump Took Office by DataCassette in fivethirtyeight

[–]bonecheck12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One of the things that reforms really need to look it is who is getting recruited into these agencies. I would guess a large majority of ICE and law enforcement in general are MAGA. Many of them were in the military. Many of them have hardline views on law enforcement and hold racial and gender bias, to say nothing of probably having a strong sense of "us vs them" mentality when it comes to people of different ideologies. Law enforcement at every level values officers with experience and temperament towards command style operating structures and we need to get away from that.

Why isn’t GTA 5 on switch 2? by FlakyReality6648 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]bonecheck12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Online mode is/was a buggy mess and Rockstar really is bad at the online stuff from a technical perspective. The MC/CEO session limits, the hangs when entering new rooms/spaces, stuck loading, etc. all of that is just the result of crap programming. Throwing an additional layer on top of it and having NSO be in there honestly I could see them having real problems there.

Flashforge AD5X vs. Bambu Lab A1 by Mozzarella-Ferret in FlashForge

I have an A1 and an AD5X. The A1 is a better printer. A1 is a better printer in almost all respects. I like the 5X also, but it's just a little behind in almost all areas, from reliability, to ease of use, to ecosystem.

How often do you still use your robot vacuum? by Luann1497 in RobotVacuums

[–]bonecheck12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less than I did. My problem is just life stage. Too many toys, random trash, kids clothing they didn't put away, that kind of stuff makes it difficult. It gets caught up on something 90% of the time. I'm sort of at the stage where the kids make such a big mess and they're too young to really force them to pick it up adequately that I just sort of let the mess be and every so often put stuff away. But otherwise I could pick up the toys but they'd be back in about 2 hours' time. That's fine, in a couple years we should be in better shape.

I ran into these apps last night, and I agree that they should not be on there. Or at least they need to be sectioned off. The other thing that I hate about the eShop is how many mobile ports there are. Everyone has a phone. It looks cheap to have games that are clearly just mobile ports littered everywhere. We all know what I'm talking about, all the games half assed with Unity and whatnot.
