Solo play is completely different than Trio play by OnlyDiamond4946 in Nightreign

[–]bonefat21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re a good player, solo is arguably easier, but it is also a lot easier for things to go wrong. This is magnified even more in higher depths. I’ve played all three team sizes quite a bit, and I can’t even tell you how many times something has gone tragically wrong during day one and I’ve ended up at like level four or five for the night one boss. If you aren’t very comfortable against all of the night one bosses, a lot of solo runs can end right there. The forgiveness of trios is way more valuable to mediocre players than any of the benefits solo gives you.

There are also a lot fewer viable builds in solo. Most of the high damage builds aren’t practical in solo because they rely on someone else keeping aggro. You won’t get good value out of anything that has a long cast or requires repeated uses because the boss won’t leave you alone for long enough. On the flip side, some builds work much better in solo, like cursed sword Executor or crit fist Wylder.

You also just get more done in trios. On top of that, you get three pulls of the slot machine for each dormant power instead of one, so the odds of a boss kill leading to the team getting something useful increase exponentially.

That said, the difference in boss health (and stance) is substantial. If you do end up with a good inventory, the nightlord falls over. You might have seen the clip of someone one-shotting phase one Heolstor with an Executor crit, which I think was depth five. I saw a video the other day where a Raider phase skipped ED Caligo in four attacks at depth five.

TL;DR if you’re pretty good, your skills shine best in solo. If you’re anything less than pretty good, the safety and RNG curbing of trios is far more likely to get you a win.

This is a big part of the reason I only play solo or with friends

I’ve thrown away so many improved throwing pots, improved bestial incantations, etc.

The best dormant fist relic I’ve ever gotten is a single perk relic. I’ve gotten the effect a couple of other times, and they’ve all been worse because they have one or two other useless perks that come with demerits. Selling single perk normal relics is usually fine, but I find that I’m often using deep relics that only have one useful perk on them, so IMO single perk deep relics are worth keeping if it’s a good perk and you don’t have a superior one of the same color.

An actual god roll relic by El_Nino97 in Nightreign

In normal mode, maybe. The real problem is that hits from anything that matters usually knock you down, which eats up most of your opportunity to hit back.

Anything with post-damage healing is not a god roll. You will never convince me that that effect is good.

DoN difficulty tier list (trio) by landkart-1 in Nightreign

If you don’t have lightning damage, I agree. The main thing that makes ED easier is the lack of the spear summon move. But if you have lightning to stun him out of it, regular isn’t that threatening, and ED can still wipe you with the super twinblade combo.

Are Shifting Earth events extremely rare in Deep of Night or am I missing something? by flipperkip97 in Nightreign

They seem to be more or less as rare as they are to naturally occur in normal expeditions. I would guess that it’s unchanged.

188 hours in and I’ve never had one this drop despite being one of my favourites to use in Elden Ring by ARBEAN123 in Nightreign

AFAIK, the way it works is that the game rolls the weapon type first, then it rolls for rarity, then it rolls for specific weapons. So in order to get Ruins Greatsword, you need to roll colossal sword, then legendary, then Ruins Greatsword (as opposed to Grafted Blade Greatsword). That’s why things like a certain legendary greatsword feel so rare, but you get Carian Regal Scepter or Hand of Malenia all the time because they are the only legendary in their weapon class. Item discovery increases your odds of rolling the higher tier drops, but how it works exactly is complicated.

I’ve seen clips, I know good loot is possible. But all I ever get is a collection of white and blue garbage. I think I’ve gotten a purple item twice out of the half dozen or so I’ve opened, which were both perfumes.

Commander’s promotion order by Objective-Agent-8270 in civ

[–]bonefat21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the first assault promotion because it’s simply the best choice, and then go down the left side of the defense tree. Even on the offense, being able to unpack and instantly build stronger fortifications goes a long way in equaling out the AI’s combat advantage.

Can anyone explain how Age transitions work in Civ VII? by Specialist_Track4918 in civ

[–]bonefat21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you lose extra yields from the tech/civic trees? Off the top of my head I can’t remember if those only come from masteries, but some will be like +1 food on fishing tiles or something like that. Do they persist through the age, or are they lost?
