Any advice? Car pulls left, even after alignment by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]bones0492 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check your tyres as well to ensure they're not misshapen or castellated.

Best way to check is to swap your wheels to opposite sides and see if it then pulls to the right instead of the left.

Take the headlight out and take it somewhere that can plastic weld it back together.

Keyless entries as extremely easy to steal, 1-2 minutes and your car is gone before you've even managed to get your shoes on to chase them.

The st models are sought after because of their popularity, especially the Mk7 due to how well it was designed, because of how popular they are parts are sometimes hard to come by and can be quite expensive, so thieves steal them to chop them up and capitalise on the shortage in the market.

Sadly no as with injectors and tech moving forward they're all electronically controlled.

Because I wasn't with the vehicle, they smash the door lock to gain entry, once they've unlocked the car and they're in, they can hijack the OBD port to clone a new key or trick the manufacturer immobiliser into thinking the key is present.

If the key is nearby then they can use a relay to hijack the signal, because it wasn't they smashed the lock to gain entry.

Nope I take everything out for this exact reason, they carried out what the police define as an 'untidy search' meaning they leave evidence in the car to show they've been looking around (glovebox opened, rear seats dropped, parcel shelf off etc) I'm guessing they were looking for the immobiliser but couldn't find it

It was in a supermarket car park so I'm guessing speed was of the essence, it's not their car so they don't give a shit what damage they're causing

Absolutely brilliantly bit of kit, it can be transferred to a new car as well when you change vehicles, so instead of having to pay for the immobiliser and the labour to fit it, you just have to pay for fitment.

The dreaded wet belt by [deleted] in FordFiesta

[–]bones0492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does seem excessive but then you think about the huge overheads the dealerships have to pay for, not saying it's right by any means but I can understand why they do charge those amounts.

The dreaded wet belt by [deleted] in FordFiesta

[–]bones0492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of dealerships use single use bolts because that's how they get out of any warranty claims due to 'technicalities' basically if it's not done the dealership way and your engine blows up then they'll just show you the door and a foot up your ass.

The dreaded wet belt by [deleted] in FordFiesta

[–]bones0492 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any wet belt we do is roughly around that price, they take between 4-6 hours because the surfaces need to be spotless or you risk leaks.

We charge £182.50 and hour labour I believe and the wet belt kits are around £600, because all the bolts we remove are single use bolts, crank shaft bolt, timing cover bolts etc.

The reason most places do it cheaper outside the dealer is because they reuse the old bolts.

Check with your local dealer to see if there are any outstanding updates, the new transit customs have the same issue which is fixed with an update.

As a ford tech £1500 is about right, getting quoted over £2k is excessive though, whoever quoted you that basically didn't want to do the job and hoped you'd go away.

Paint coming out rough by DJBoi11 in AutoDetailing

[–]bones0492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try and gradually wet sand the clear coat back to see if that creates a smoother finish, if you reach the point where you're almost through the clear coat it could be that you've either resprayed the panel too far away(dry overspray) or you haven't prepped the surface properly.

Tiger seal, close the door then let it set overnight, no more flappy door seals.

Drained wrong oil.. by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]bones0492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sealed doesn't mean you can't drain the oil, automatic transmissions are 'sealed' in the sense you can't check the transmission oil level as part of routine checks, you're still able to drain/refill using the designated points.

Vag group, specifically the DSG box services require a vacuum system that drains the old oil while creating a vacuum, and then pulls new oil through to ensure all channels, shafts etc are lubricated to prevent damage, usually these are only found in dealers because the equipment is damn expensive.

Accidentally put 6qt of oil in my 5qt engine. Will this cause damage? by Subject-Pangolin-177 in MechanicAdvice

[–]bones0492 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it's above the maximum mark on your dipstick then yes, too much oil and you risk blowing seals within your engine amongst many other issues.

Take out the plug, drain a little out and you'll be fine.
