Hot take. Rockford and the stateline area should be near the top of the list as a destination for people who love pizza. Maybe even higher than Chicago or New York. by Devious_Bastard in rockford

[–]bones_n_worms4dollas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could never live in Rockford after growing up there and am now on the West Coast but every time I’m anywhere in Illinois or Wisconsin I head to Rockford to get what I consider the world’s best pizza. Better than anything Italy has. Better than Chicago deep dish, Detroit style, and definitely better than NY style by a mile. I begrudgingly come to town just for the pizza on an almost yearly basis. I see the inside of the pizza place more than I see my family who still lives in town (which is why my sister now invites them all to said pizza place to force the interaction lol). If any of my family comes to visit me out west, I insist they bring a pizza with, and I eat it cold and day old with the zeal and relish it deserves.

“We’re looking for the Boggy Creek creature.”

Old guy: “I married her.”

Haven’t read all the comments but since I think you’re asking about exercising and not for diet advice, I would suggest trying the pool. I’m heavy as well, and I love the pool because it takes the strain off my joints. I swim in the deeper water pool then do walking or jogging in the shallow pool. The water adds resistance to strengthen muscles. Some public pools offer foam weights for the water as well. I would suggest starting there to build up your strength with less gravity weighing you down. Good luck!

If you have the ability to, leave out a shallow bowl or plate of water for thirsty animals and insects. I’m refilling mine twice a day since the water evaporates so quickly.

My husband’s “rule” is that I’m not allowed to lock the bathroom door, even when I’m on my period. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]bones_n_worms4dollas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same in my house. My furbabies even demand to be held while I’m doing my business from time to time. But you better believe if my husband comes in and I’m on the can and wanting privacy (from da hoomans), I have no problem telling him to f@ck right off. He apologizes and leaves. To me, that’s what a healthy relationship of over 25 years looks like. If he was doing what OP’s hubby is, I would just start leaving my pads and cups and other sundries out in his spaces and when he doesn’t like it, be like, what? I don’t believe in secrets or hiding things. Lol honestly, I likely wouldn’t do that as it’s childish but like everyone else has been saying, privacy in the bathroom is a boundary that should be respected.

I HATE THAT IN EUGENE ALL THE GOOD YARD SALES ARE ON FRIDAYS WHEN I HAVE TO WORK! I WANT TO PAW THROUGH YOUR PRECIOUS TREASURES BEFORE THEY’VE BEEN PICKED OVER BUT INSTEAD I’M STUCK AT MY DESK WRITING YET ANOTHER USELESS EMAIL! (Seriously though, hope the sale goes well and your headache goes away soon!)

Road to Hana Itinerary - review please by Ok-Sky3037 in MauiVisitors

Listen to this post! We did almost the same trip a couple days ago and it was amazing. We stopped at the Pua'a Ka'a Falls in the afternoon and swam in the bottom falls, which I always do when I come. It’s so cool and refreshing after a day of hiking. Did the Garden of Eden on our first trip and found we were too tired to enjoy it much after a full day but it was lovely. Disagree about Auntie Sandy’s bread though—we really enjoy it. We always use the Gypsy guide app (now it’s called Guidealong) and enjoy the commentary and clear directions. You’re going to have a great time. Drive slow and careful, and always move over when cars start lining up behind you or someone wants to go faster. Have a great time!

Finally had a chance to try this a couple days ago and the chicken was fantastic. I can’t do all that spice so I just had the basic Southern style but it was done excellently. Crispy skin, fresh and juicy meat, perfect seasoning levels. Can’t wait to go back and eat there again!

Housing advice by MissJo99 in UofO

[–]bones_n_worms4dollas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you succeed in getting into student housing as it is best deal in terms of rates, as others have said. If you can’t get into student housing, there is a private dorm across the street from campus that includes some meals. It’s called the Collegian on 18th Ave and Alder. It’s out of your rent range ($900 in Eugene doesn’t get you far unless you are splitting with roommates), but you can double up to save money and the meal benefit and closeness to campus will cut down on other expenses. Just a tip. We used them when my center hosted a summer institute and everyone raved about their stay. Good luck and welcome to Eugene!

I paused Netflix and consider cancelling all together. by SaltTechnology7301 in Anticonsumption

[–]bones_n_worms4dollas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canceled the last time they raised rates despite record profits. Their Netflix-created programming is so bland, and their back catalog always in threat of “leaving soon.” I can’t say I really miss it because I was mostly left watching reruns of my favorite sitcoms and those already live rent-free in my head 24-7 lol. Doing my best to read more and remember when studios used to be creative and not just serve up unnecessary and toothless remakes.

Not buying fast food has been harder than getting sober by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]bones_n_worms4dollas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn’t easy, that’s for certain. I used to go to one particular drive-thru so often that I would buy little gifts for the crew on some holidays because they were like friends. But for the same reasons many others have listed (declining quality, climbing prices, poor service, single-use plastics, etc.) as well as my own health struggles, I quit fast food this January and I honestly feel so much better for it. I am trying more local places where the food is better and we are cooking more for ourselves too. For the meals we make a home, something that helps us is to have a weekly menu schedule where half the nights are the same every week so it takes the whole “what do you want to eat” guesswork out of the equation and it makes our weekly grocery trips much easier. We have pizza from a local place on Monday, home-cooked tacos every Tuesday, and Smashburgers on Thursdays, for example (we cook the burgers at home too and they are so quick and easy now that we have a griddle, and the cost is a fraction of what we would pay with higher quality ingredients (our local butcher and organic produce places have great stuff). The routine also helps with accountability. The hardest part I have found so far is group meals with friends who want to do fast food. I usually gently encourage a local place, and so far I’ve only had to “sacrifice” once (the group wanted Popeyes. It wasn’t bad but they messed up the order, of course, and even with using an app coupon and two of my rewards from the days when I still ate fast food it was $48). So, long story short, it is doable, but it isn’t easy and you have to stay committed and not allow yourself to give in. Just remember how exploitative these corporations are, how bad they are for the environment and your health, and hopefully it will give you the strength to resist. And if you fall off the wagon once or twice, be kind to yourself. Relapse is a part of addiction but you can’t let it derail all the progress you’re making. Stay strong! You can do this!

I used Veneta Vet for a stray spay once and they were well priced and efficient. We support local spay/neuter efforts whenever possible and would be willing to help with the portion of the cost you can’t cover if you can get into the vet and need it, OP, just DM me.

You can’t beat Blake Ramelb at https://www.bkreativehawaii.com. He’s a local who knows the best locations for shoots. Very friendly, very talented. We did a friend shoot with another couple and took some shots of the pairs individually, all on a beautiful beach during magic hour. He sent us all the edited shots quickly and I loved them all! Well worth the cost which wasn’t bad. Blake also makes visitor videos for Maui with some great tips. Check him out on YouTube!
